Jennifer Dawe Photography Does Shag Rock!

shag rock and bride and groomWow. I share photos of Shag Rock here on the blog all the time (especially on Sundays), and I’ve never come close to getting a shot as perfect as these. You might remember Alicia and Jonathan, who recently got married at The Doctor’s House. As part of their gorgeous photo shoot, the always fab Jennifer Dawe Photography brought them here. These are truly some of the best wedding photos I’ve ever seen. So congrats again to Alice and Jonathan, and congrats to Jennifer Dawe Photography! See more of their pictures of this wedding here. And happy Sunday!

Two Guests – One View

Ocean Delight CottagesLook closely, and you can see two guests enjoying a Wonderful World of Whiteway view. Clearly, I’m not the only one gobsmacked by the glory of nature, especially here on this beautiful island of ours. We’re having a lovely fall so far – almost making us for our terrible summer. We’re finding many guests out late at night, lingering by their fires and their s’mores and their sunsets. Makes for a lovely evening, that’s for sure!

Music You Can’t Miss

Newfoundland musicianOur Shag It Sunday afternoons with Charlie Crocker have been amazing, and they’re about to get even better. That’s because we’re adding another super-talented Newfoundland performer to the mix – Neil Simmons

Born in St John’s but from a musical family based in Green’s Hr Trinity Bay, Neil was involved with The Carol Players for 11 years and was with the cast that represented Canada in an international drama festival in Dundalk Ireland in 2001. His singing career spans multiple bands and years of acoustic single performance. From rock to traditional and all points in between, Neil’s repertoire has delighted audiences for years and years.

And we can’t wait til he joins the crew on Sunday, for more free live music. It should be quite the treat, so please join us Sunday.

And by special request, Neil will also be joining us at Dining at The Doctor’s House! Starting this Saturday evening, he’ll be performing before and after dinner. We have an amazing menu to tempt you, and you don’t have to be an overnight guest to join us. To make a reservation, please call 709-582-2754.

Congratulations, Alicia and Jonathan!

Wedding at the Doctor's HouseI have to admit it – I’m a male of a certain age, and although I have three beautiful daughters, none of them have had weddings. So before started hosting our own last year, I had no idea how truly stunning they can be. I’m continually amazed by the work that our couples put into their special days, and with the beautiful results. I’ve also been amazed at the skills of all the wedding professionals we work with – like Jennifer Dawe photography, who shot the photos you see here.

So, again, we congratulated Alicia and Jonathan – theirs was a lovely wedding, for an even lovelier couple. We wish them all the best, and highly recommend you check out all their gorgeous photos here.

Congrats to Another Happy Couple

Beautiful BrideWow – hard to believe that the wedding season is winding down. Especially since we keep having such beautiful weddings! Congratulations, again, to Amanda and Jon. Your love for each other is so apparent and strong, that we know you’ve set yourselves up for a truly wonderful marriage and life together. All the best – and thanks to our wedding coordinator, Lindsay, for getting these sweep ‘snaps!’

Thanks, Tasha!

ocean delight cottages roomForgive me if I’m tooting our own horn a bit, but I had to share these beautiful photos and beautiful comments from the beautiful Tasha, who stayed with us this weekend. We’re thrilled when we meet ‘kindred spirit’ guests and of course are even more thrilled when they enjoy themselves as much as we want them to. Here’s what Tasha had to say about her time with us:

“Stayed here this weekend. I have to say the owners/co-workers were so wonderful. I loved the puppys (Murphy and Friday♥ ). We Will all be back, i can’t wait. The place is stunning and wonderful to wake up in and go out to smell the fresh ocean. Would love to recommend this to all my friends!”

As you can see, they stayed in the Cranberry honeymoon cottage, our A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty. We’re so happy they enjoyed themselves, and hope to see them back soon!

Weekly Spa Specials Are Back!

Spa at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaAfter a brief hiatus, I’m happy to report that our weekly spa specials at The Doctor’s House are back. This week we’re offering the Caribbean Therapy Manicure or Pedicure at a reduced price. This rejuvenating and nurturing treatment uses the healing touch and plant-derived ingredients of the Caribbean to help improve the condition of nails, cuticles, and skin. A special exfoliating paste and warm seaweed masque combine with Caribbean massage techniques to smooth, soften, relax, and renew your skin (sounds pretty good – where do I sign up??).

To see pricing or how to make a reservation, please see here. And remember that if you visit us at the Spa, make sure to come say ‘hi’ and ‘welcome’ to Ginger, our new horse, too!

Welcome, Ginger!

New horse at Ocean DelightWednesday was a very special for us and for Laurelyn in particular. That’s because it’s the day we welcomed Ginger the Belgian to our little farm family – and we got to meet some fine people at the same time.

Ginger comes to us from the White family, who very tragically lost their husband and father, Dave, last fall. It was a terrible loss for the family and the community. Ginger had been Dave’s horse of choice, and they needed a new home for a her.

So in these pictures, you see Gloria, her daughter Kathleen, our friend and neighbour, Clifford George, and two great Newfoundland horsemen, Art and Fred Coles.  They all pitched in to make Gloria’s move as pain free as possible

It took a little coaxing by Kathleen, Clifford and Art, but we eventually got Ginger into the trailer.  And then it took nothing to get her out at The Doctor’s House.  She was welcomed immediately by her new family, as they took to each other and then to the fields. She looks a bit the giant among our Newfoundland ponies, but she’s a gentle one, and none of them seem to notice or care anyway.

Ginger is a pure Belgian and won ‘Most Obedient’ horse in Newfoundland and Labrador two years in a row. When she’s not enjoying our pastures overlooking the ocean and enjoying the company of the 4 ponies, we expect she’ll also be great help in our weddings, pulling our beautiful carriage.  Laurelyn is also hoping to be able to make enough time to ride her on a regular basis (hence, the big smiles from The Berry!).

So, we’re very excited to welcome Ginger to the fold! But we know she will always be Dave’s horse, and Gloria and her family will always be welcome anytime at The Doctor’s House, to come visit, groom, play, ride and whatever else. In our eyes, we consider Ginger a loan, and one we’re very grateful for and intend to treasure. And isn’t that really the way it is – we are all only loaned to this earth for a very short time, and must treasure every blessing we have. getting a new horse in newfoundland

If a picture is worth a thousand words, how much is a video worth? Clearly, in this beautiful example, a video is truly priceless.

Here’s Tin Bird Production‘s recent work, featuring Robin and Paul’s wedding. It was a beautiful day, a beautiful wedding, and a truly beautiful couple – and this video captures it all perfectly. Thanks to Tin Bird for sharing, and to Robin and Paul for sharing their day with us. We wish you all the blessings and good fortune possible on your new journey together!
