Gone Fishing

Fishing in NewfoundlandFinally, we’ve been having some nice summer weather (and some truly beautiful days, I might add) – enough so that recently we were able to take Lindsay out for her first Newfoundland fishing experience. Leslie and Leslie joined us, and we spent a lovely day on the water, catching our fair (and legal!) share of fish.

Lindsay took to fishing like, well, a fish to water, just like she has just about everything else here in Newfoundland. We’re very lucky to have her. And very grateful that she and many others are able to enjoy the recreational food fishery this year, open til August 9. Happy fishing! And happy fresh-fish-eating!

This Week’s Spa Specials at The Doctor’s House

spa roomWe’re rounding out the summer with a series of weekly spa specials at The Doctor’s House, and this week’s is quite the indulgent one. Our popular Aveda Rosemary Mint Awakening Body Wrap will be available from today, August 3, to Sunday, August 9, for only $79 (plus, HST, regular $95).

This treatment begins with an exfoliation and a moisturizing massage with Aveda Rosemary Mint Body Lotion.  After the body is wrapped, the essences of rosemary and peppermint will awaken your senses, while a scalp and foot massage balance the whole body. It’s  great for when you’re feeling tired, heavy or sluggish, and remember that you don’t have to be an overnight guest to enjoy it. To make a reservation, please call 582-2754 or email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com.

Sunday View

shag it lunchTypically I share sunset shots on our Sunday blog – sunsets are like my church – but Samantha (from The Doctor’s House) stopped by for lunch at the Shag It recently, and her resulting photo is too fun not to share. Especially since we’re hoping for another big crowd to help us enjoy live music with Charlie Crocker. Some fresh sandwiches like these might be just what the doctor ordered!

Join the Crowd

Crowd at the shag it cafeHere’s some of the crowd entertained by Charlie Crocker last week, and tomorrow, he’s back for more! We’re happy to remind you that tomorrow from 3-5pm, we’ll be hosting live, no-charge music, and our own Shae-Lynn Lahey of Heart’s Desire, will be joining in. And word to the wise, our Sunday special is fish ‘n brewis.

It was great last week, and we’re sure it’ll be great this week, so do check out these details, and stop by to join us!

Thanks, Paul (or, a little Pony Blogging!)

our radical changer newfoundland ponyWe have our friend and Green’s Harbour neighbour Paul Seymour to thank for this gorgeous photo, taken at The Doctor’s House, and for many more gorgeous photos we’ll be sharing over the coming days (make sure to follow us on Twitter and Facebook so you don’t miss ’em!).

This is Monty, our radical changer Newfoundland pony. That means his coat changes with the seasons, and it’s quite a beautiful thing to see. We can’t think of anything more wonderful, or more ‘Newfoundland,’ than a Newfoundland pony in a field of wildflowers. Enjoy your weekend!

Charlie Sings Again

live music at our newfoundland cafeGood news! I’m happy to report that Charlie Crocker did such a good job last week at the Shag It Cafe, that he’ll be serenading us again on Sunday! Special guest singer, our own Shae-Lynn Lahey of Heart’s Desire, will also be joining him.

It all takes place Sunday, from 3-5pm. Learn more about it here, and see you soon!

Distinguished Guests

General HillierWe love all our guests, both here at the cottages and at The Doctor’s House, too. I’m definitely what you’d call a ‘people person,’ and I try to have a chat with just about everybody who walks through our doors.

Most of these guests remain nameless on the blog – there’s just too many to feature everyday. But when someone noteworthy like the distinguished General Rick Hillier and his wife, Joyce, come along, of course we’re proud, honoured, and happy to share! Here’s Sam and Beverley with Rick at our check in. So thanks again to this lovely couple for staying with us, and for agreeing to this photo op!

This Week’s Spa Special at The Doctor’s House!

Aveda Spa TreatmentWe’re excited to share that starting this week, we’ll now be offering weekly spa specials at The Doctor’s House. They’re the perfect way to add a little indulgence to your stay around the bay, and this week is no exception.

From Monday, July 27 – Sunday, August 2, we’re featuring a special on our Caribbean Therapy Manicure or Pedicure. This rejuvenating and nurturing treatment uses the healing touch and plant-‐derived ingredients of the Caribbean to help improve the condition of nails, cuticles, and skin. A special exfoliating paste and warm seaweed masque combine with Caribbean massage techniques to smooth, soften, relax, and renew your skin.

This week only, you can enjoy the Caribbean Therapy Pedicure for $75, the Manicure for $60, or combine both for $125. Find all regular spa treatments here and stay tuned to the blog, so you never miss a special!

Screech In

Screech In at our CottagesWe recently had a fantastic Screech In at the Shag It, thanks to some wonderful new Newfoundlanders and our wonderful screech’r-in’r, Nanny Lou. In total, our honourary population has increased by 5 brave souls, and we’re lucky to have them! Many thanks to Russell, one of the screeched in, for sharing these pictures. And thanks to everyone who joined us and helped us have such a time – we had lots of fine musicians perform, and everything was perfect.

Sunset Sunday: On Stopping

sunset at our cabins in newfoundlandBusy summer, busy summer. That means I’m not slowing down to smell the roses (literally all around me at The Doctor’s House) and take in the sunsets like I should be. My daughter was here last week, which forced me to stop for a bit and …. it was wonderful. So I’m going to try to pause a little more here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, and enjoy all that’s around me. Happy Sunday.
