We finally got our Christmas tree. It’s a bit sparse (shades of Charlie Brown, anyone?), but we love it just the same. It is very proudly from Newfoundland, and as such stands tall with it own unique charm and personality. We’ve got some more ornaments to add, and once it’s fully dressed to the nines, we’re sure it’ll be a ten!
What a Monkey
Here’s Monkey, our magical Chimera cat. In profile she looks like a Howler monkey, at times she is just like an owl, others she is like her mother, and sometimes she just looks like a cat. Such is the way of the Chimera – wild and mystical creatures of a forgotten time (not unlike myself – the Gemini).
Speaking of wild – we’re now (mostly) ready for Christmas, after some bursts of work … now all that’s left is waiting for family to come join us at The Doctor’s House, for hopefully another magical season. I hope you’re eagerly anticipating the coming weeks, too.
Monkey and Murphy
Tuesdays with Murphy: At Last
A dog’s work is never done. As the alpha male in this family, it’s important that I take care of my humans, my brother, Friday, and my cats. This little one, Mimi, didn’t make my job easy. She was semi-feral when I decided Jerry and The Berry should take her in …. and let’s just I wasn’t her favourite for awhile.
But, at last, Mimi and I know enjoy our cuddle time just as much as anyone else. She will often jump up and join me for my afternoon siestas. As you can see, we don’t get too close, but we take comfort knowing the other is there. And that’s one cat nap I can get behind!
And remember, if your pets like snoozing with a view, our Whiteway cottages are open all winter long, and pets are welcome. Mimi and I could use another cuddle buddy!
Snuggly Sunday
This is what Sundays should look like, no? No matter what’s going on in the world or our personal lives, we can always count on some Sunday morning cuddles – and that’s a very good thing! We hope your morning was equally lovely! (And remember, pets are welcome at our Whiteway cottages, which are open all winter long!)
Stay Tuned
Lots has happened at The Doctor’s House since we first opened, and first launched our website. Sometimes I’m even shocked by the amount of growth – and we’ve got more planned for 2016. In the meantime, as we approach the new year, we’re working on revamping and updating doctorshousenewfoundland.com. It’s a tough job, but The Berry is up to the challenge. Stay tuned!
Had to Share
If you ever needed proof why we call it the ‘Wonderful World of Whiteway’…. well, here’s your proof! I looked up yesterday from my computer and the sun was about to peek out over the hills. The harbinger of colour and tone gave rise to the storm in forecast. And if ever there were a blog-worthy moment, this is it!
Remember that our Whiteway cottages are open all winter long – so this view could be yours this holiday season, as well. Email us at info@oceandelightcottages.com for more info!
Summer Memories
Thanks, Stephen, for sharing some fun photos – and some fun summer memories – for the blog. Here’s Mel (the goat), Monty our radical changer Newfoundland pony, and our big girl in the upper left, Ginger. She’s the Belgian who joined our family this summer.
Of course, the animals will be warming themselves in our barn all winter long. But I think they’ll miss all the visits from guests – they love to put on a show! So we’ll be making sure they get lots of extra attention as the days grow colder.
Our Wonderful Team: Thank You
You probably know that we’re closing up The Doctor’s House for the winter. We have plans to be open year round, but our business is still young, and for now, this is what’s best (and don’t worry – Christmas gift packages are still available until December 23!)
What you might not know is that we have an amazing team behind us – one of the best I’ve worked with (and I’ve worked with dozens), dedicated to sharing the beauty of the Baccalieu with as many people as possible. It truly is a calling, and a pleasure – and sometimes lots of hard work. And our team knows hard work.
So, this weekend, we celebrated – celebrated a great team, a great year, and great prospects for 2016. Thanks again to everyone who joined us, and thanks to Terrie-Lynn for sharing her photos. We can’t wait to see you all back here next Spring!
Quite the Pot of Gold
Talk about a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. Shag Rock is still as inspiring and beautiful as the day we moved out here. Now, our business has grown, and so has our love of the place. Remember that our Whiteway cottages are open all winter – so there’s no reason you can’t come out and enjoy this inspiration and this beauty yourself. Our cottages are right on the ocean, overlooking Shag Rock. How sweet it is!
