Her Little Pony

Child and Newfoundland ponyHailie visited The Doctor’s House with her mom, Terrie-Lynn, a few days ago, and like just about all our guests, a visit with the ponies was in order. This is Hailie with Bridie; her mom says their connection was almost magic. Clearly, they took a liking to each other – there does seem to be something special between children and ponies, doesn’t there?

Thanks to Terrie-Lynn for sharing these gorgeous pictures (former guests: we love showcasing your beautiful shots if you’re not camera shy, hint hint!), and remember that all guests are welcome to visit the ponies, whether you’re here for our 7-Day a week spa, Dining, or staying overnight!

Work with a View

View at our Newfoundland resortThis pretty picture was captured by Samantha, our new front desk receptionist. It was the view yesterday morning – sunny and complete with Bridie and Shamrock, our Newfoundland ponies.  Our team is growing, and we’re lucking to have many great people on board. We’re proud to offer a great work environment, just an hour outside St. John’s – and the view, and the walking trails and English gardens to explore on your breaks, are a bonus! We’re still looking for staff for our upcoming busy season – please see here to learn more or apply.

Tuesdays with Murphy: A Dip in the Briny Sea

dog in the atlantic oceanHere I am in Long Point Cove, home of our feathered-friend-inspired cottages (the Puffin, the Loon, the Gannet and the Osprey). Here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, my fetch-in-the-ocean tastes have become quite refined, and Long Point Cove has become one my favourite spots. A little sheltered, private, right next to cottages I can use to dry off and warm up – it’s a dog’s paradise. Which is why I’m hoping lots of new four-leggeds will take advantage of our current special here at the cottages (pets stay free this June!), so that I can introduce more city dogs to the joy that is stretching your paws in the Atlantic Ocean. They never regret it!

Indulge All Week!

Relaxed young woman laying on massage tableWe’ve got some big news for all those spa-lovers out there (wouldn’t that be everyone?). Starting today, our Spa at The Doctor’s House is open 7 days a week! We’ve got fabulous new Spa staff on board, all trained in the latest Aveda® treatments, and we have special introductory pricing on our new services (including a ‘beautifying body wrap’ and ‘chakra balancing massage’). You don’t need to stay at The Doctor’s House to enjoy the spa either, and it’s just a 5 minute drive from the cottages. Go pamper yourself, visit the new baby animals, walk down to the water, and call it an indulgent day!

Budding Saturday: Literally!

Flowers captured by Newfoundland photograherHere’s another stunner captured by our good friend, Bud Vincent, of Hollingside Images. Sometimes on Saturdays I like to share Newfoundland photography on the blog, and there’s nothing finer than Bud’s work. Make sure to follow him on Facebook – he doesn’t share photos all too often, but when he does – look out!

Like a Duck To Water

ducks at our newfoundland resortThose old maxims are based on life and experience.  I have always heard the adage, “he took to it like a duck to water.”  Yesterday I saw that adage in action.  Charlie had finished the fence around the duck pond at The Doctor’s House, so it was time to take the ducks, who had never been in water, from the barn to the pond.

It was quite the commotion to get them from the stall into the carrier and across the field. We got them to the duck house by the pond and released them.  They were a little timid as they flocked ever closer together and waddled to the water’s edge.  They all got in the water and for about 10 seconds didn’t know quite what to do.

But then, wonder of nature kicked in, and almost instantly they were swimming, diving, eating algae like they were starved.  I looked and smiled – such a fun sight.

Our challenge now is to protect them from predators.  I have a plan already in motion – stay tuned!

New Specials at The Doctor’s House, Too!

summer mailout for our newfoundland resortYesterday I blogged about new specials here at Ocean Delight. But you didn’t think I could forget about our sister property, The Doctor’s House, did you? Of course The Berry came up with some great options for there, too.

Specials at The Doctor’s House this season include overnight stays coupled with dining credits, a ladies’ retreat at our new Guest House, some spa packages, and introductory pricing on our new Aveda spa treatments. Remember that our spa is opening 7 days a week starting in June, so there’ll soon be lots of opportunities to indulge!

You can see all our specials here, and if you’ve already, join our mailing list – we always let our subscribers know about specials everywhere here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway first!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Pets Stay Free This June!

dogs playing at our ocean front cottage rentalsOh boy, oh boy, oh boy – I’m reprising my role as blogger, because I have some very happy news to share. Jerry and The Berry have just announced their summer specials – and top of the the list is a great one: pets stay free all June long, as long as you make a 2 night reservation!

I’m excited about this news on a professional and personal level. Professionally, as ambassador for the cottages, I know that we four-leggeds need getaways as much as the two-leggeds we own. Especially since city dogs really need some time and space to run around, maybe take in one of the many hiking trails around here, or go for a dip in the ocean (chilly, but still my favourite activity!).

And personally, I can’t wait for all the new friends I’m going to be meet! Find more details and all our summer specials here, and if you’re like to to book, please call 1-877-588-2026, email info@oceandelightcottages.com, or make your online reservation here.

Happy Birthday to Me

vintage photo of birthday in newfoundlandYup, it’s my birthday. Which hopefully means I get to relax a little. And just have a simple blog post to write! This picture wasn’t taken yesterday – it’s me and two oldest, now fully grown daughters. Fortunately or unfortunately, all their early photos were pre-digital, and not many have been scanned. This is one of the few ‘birthday-themed’ pictures I have – so it’s what I’m sharing today! Don’t forget about our new specials at The Doctor’s House (new bookings are a great birthday gift!), and don’t forget to tell me how young I look if you see me today!
