We’ve got some big news for all those spa-lovers out there (wouldn’t that be everyone?). Starting today, our Spa at The Doctor’s House is open 7 days a week! We’ve got fabulous new Spa staff on board, all trained in the latest Aveda® treatments, and we have special introductory pricing on our new services (including a ‘beautifying body wrap’ and ‘chakra balancing massage’). You don’t need to stay at The Doctor’s House to enjoy the spa either, and it’s just a 5 minute drive from the cottages. Go pamper yourself, visit the new baby animals, walk down to the water, and call it an indulgent day!
Budding Saturday: Literally!

Sometimes on Saturdays I like to share Newfoundland photography on the blog, and there’s nothing finer than Bud’s work. Make sure to follow him on Facebook – he doesn’t share photos all too often, but when he does – look out!
Like a Duck To Water
Those old maxims are based on life and experience. I have always heard the adage, “he took to it like a duck to water.” Yesterday I saw that adage in action. Charlie had finished the fence around the duck pond at The Doctor’s House, so it was time to take the ducks, who had never been in water, from the barn to the pond.
It was quite the commotion to get them from the stall into the carrier and across the field. We got them to the duck house by the pond and released them. They were a little timid as they flocked ever closer together and waddled to the water’s edge. They all got in the water and for about 10 seconds didn’t know quite what to do.
But then, wonder of nature kicked in, and almost instantly they were swimming, diving, eating algae like they were starved. I looked and smiled – such a fun sight.
Our challenge now is to protect them from predators. I have a plan already in motion – stay tuned!

Oh boy, oh boy, oh boy – I’m reprising my role as blogger, because I have some very happy news to share. Jerry and The Berry have just announced their summer specials – and top of the the list is a great one: pets stay free all June long, as long as you make a 2 night reservation!
I’m excited about this news on a professional and personal level. Professionally, as ambassador for the cottages, I know that we four-leggeds need getaways as much as the two-leggeds we own. Especially since city dogs really need some time and space to run around, maybe take in one of the many hiking trails around here, or go for a dip in the ocean (chilly, but still my favourite activity!).

Happy Birthday to Me
Yup, it’s my birthday. Which hopefully means I get to relax a little. And just have a simple blog post to write! This picture wasn’t taken yesterday – it’s me and two oldest, now fully grown daughters. Fortunately or unfortunately, all their early photos were pre-digital, and not many have been scanned. This is one of the few ‘birthday-themed’ pictures I have – so it’s what I’m sharing today! Don’t forget about our new specials at The Doctor’s House (new bookings are a great birthday gift!), and don’t forget to tell me how young I look if you see me today!
Congrats, Grads!
We might be a little late to the chorus, but we wanted to extend our ‘congrats’ to all the grads out there, anyway! Our neighbour Barbara recently shared this gorgeous photo of her daughter, Emily, who is graduating from Crescent Collegiate. It was taken at The Doctor’s House, by Sally LeDrew Photography. We wish Emily, and all the grads, a bright future, filled with, well, just about everything good!
Cheese, Please
Hard to believe our first wedding of the season was already a week ago – time flies! Here’s a little veggie and cheese dip platter that Chef Stephen Shepherd lovingly put together for Renee and Chris – he is truly an artist, specializing in chocolate and pastries, and he catered their wedding to rave reviews.
And of course, he’s not to be confused with Chef Stephen Pynn, our amazing excutive chef who has created a new, fine dining experience at The Doctor’s House. Dinner is served tonight – perhaps we’ll see you there?
Spring Specials Extended at The Doctor’s House
A little good news as we head into the weekend: we’ve just extended our Spring Specials at The Doctor’s House through June (June 27, to be exact). That includes our Spring Mini-Fling and our Ladies’ Retreat at The Doctor’s Guest House. The weather is just starting to get nice, and the flowers are just starting to bloom, so we want to share this beautiful season with as many people as possible!
Laurelyn’s also come up with some great new spa packages (including specials for bridal parties), and the Spa is soon going to be open Monday-Thursday. And of course, we’ve got our full menu on tonight and tomorrow at Dining at The Doctor’s House. So yes, we’re getting busy! Happy Friday!
