Look Where We Ate!

photo at our Newfoundland restaurantMaybe you can tell from my impromptu desk in the background, that the Shag It is far from fully operational at this point. But here’s a teaser of things to come! The Berry recently turned some leftover moose pasta sauce into her fabulous, more-ish Maritime Casserole (her own recipe, learned and perfected in P.E.I. many moons ago). I added some James Taylor, and together we had a fabulous evening. With good food, good company, lovely music and a  great setting, how could we not?

Be sure to follow the Shag It on Facebook so you don’t miss the open this year!

Where Does the Time Go?

Jerry Byrne's daughterHere’s  my oldest daughter, Adrienne, celebrating her recent birthday.  She turned 35. I was 30 on that spectacular day she was born.  She is everything a father could have asked for; I remember when at 14 she came and hugged me and said, “Dad, I love my life – Thank You.”

She is remarkable and I’m not just biased – she was just promoted to Director, Workplace Wellness for Healthcare Corporation of America – Virginia (a big deal).  And she holds a Master’s Degree in Health Promotion with a certificate in Gerontology (perfect for me) from Virginia Tech. This week she’s heading to an important seminar in Nashville where I know she’ll shine.

Clearly, I’m smitten – like I am with all three of my beautiful daughters. I just wish that she lived closer, but I am grateful to live in the era of Skype! If you have grown children, I’d love to know in the comments – are they doing what you imagined they’d be? If they live away, do you stay in touch as much as you’d like?

Sunset Sunday: Golden

Sunset in NewfoundlandI love when the bright of the day melts into gold.  And I love peaceful Sundays, with the promise of a good meal and good company and a quiet evening. Hopefully something similar is in store for you today. God bless.

Snow Days Past and Present

Snow days in newfoundlandMy oldest daughter, Adrienne, recently shared this picture on Facebook, and it’s worth repeating! She was enjoying an uncommon snowday for her part of the world (lucky thing lives in the South!), and spent some of her time off going through old family photos. And clearly inspired, this is the result! We hope however you’re spending this weekend, you get to spend some time with your loved ones. The memories really are all that matters.

Cats in Bowls

cat at our newfoundland cottage rentalsLaurelyn loves this bowl. But it’s not hers anymore! Zoe, our littlest kitten, has claimed ownership. And if possession is 9/10ths of the law, then given the amount of time she spends in it, I’d saw Zoe has a new bowl!

It’s a Cat’s Life

cat at our cottagesWe’ve had lots of wind lately, and that only seems to make the cats feel even cozier. The Berry, the dogs, the cats and I all enjoyed watching the storm, especially Shadow, who had to be front and centre. Quite the view, isn’t it?

A Perfect Gift

painting given as a wedding giftYou might remember Susan and Scott, the beautiful couple who had a beautiful wedding on a beautifully sunny day at The Doctor’s House last summer. Well, this was a wedding gift they received from Scott’s cousins. Of course it’s a Clifford George original, of the very place they became husband and wife. We’re sure it now enjoys a very special place in their home. Thanks again to Susan for sharing.

Beautiful Ponies

Newfoundland ponies at our resortThanks to our neighbour Paul Seymour for sharing these stunning photos of the stunning Bridie and Monty. Our Newfoundland ponies at The Doctor’s House are another reminder why it’s great to be home! Yes, we’ve been running around, but scenes – and precious animals – like this make it all worth it. We hope you had a great weekend, and have a great week!
