A hearty Happy Birthday and a hearty thanks, too, to the Heart’s Delight -Islington Volunteer Fire Department, which just celebrated 40 years of service. These brave souls are invaluable to our community, and the very picture of service. Their gift from the province was a big new truck. Sure to be well received, and remember – fire detectors save lives, so go check yours right now!
We are happy to announce that we have just extended our Date Night Special all the way through December. Now you can come enjoy a cozy night away at our romantic inn, coupled with a gourmet meal prepared by our now legendary and award-winning chef, Chris Chafe, plus a yummy hot breakfast, too. We’re finding it’s not just couples who are taking advantage of this indulgent getaway – many girlfriends are using it as an excuse to getaway, drink some wine, and maybe throw in a spa treatment (or two!) as well. Our Date Night to Remember has been extended until December 21, so that you can get some needed peace and relaxation amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!
Please note as well that for the rest of the season, both our Inn and Dining will be open to reservation only, Thursday through Saturday nights. After December 21, we will close for the winter – so please come visit before we do.
And a final note – we’re open for group Christmas dinners and parties, both at The Doctor’s House and at the Shag It. It might seem early, but now is really the time to start making your plans. Stay tune for more details!
The Shag It may be closed for the season, but only to the general public, and we were more than happy to open its doors, as well as the doors of all our cottages, to these lovely ladies. They’re from Operational Stress Injury Social Support, a group that meets a growing need of peer support for stress-related injuries for our military. You can read about their very important work here. We salute these women and their military families, and we were proud to be their hosts.

It has been a trying and tragic week for us as Canadians. We’re no more able to make sense of the senseless than anyone else who has tried, and we’re grieving with the rest of the country. We take solace in the peace created on a quiet autumn evening, and in the loved ones around us, and hope our fellow Canadians are able to find that solace, too. God bless.
Our good friend and neighbour, Albert Legge, is also a great photographer, so sometimes he takes lovely photos for us to share on the blog. We love showcasing all the wonder that is the Baccalieu Trail – we’re just happy to be a part of it! The trees practically on fire with their deep reds this Fall have been quite dramatic – and certainly a photographers dream. Thanks to Albert for sharing!

No matter how you frame it, Shag Rock is always stunning and captivating, ever-present, a steady presence in our constantly changing ocean. It’s weathered innumerable ‘Gonzalos’ and will weather innumerable more. And it always makes us feel happy, whenever we see it. Extreme weather events aside, this has been a beautiful autumn. The leaves are falling at The Doctor’s House, and lots of couples are taking advantage of our extraordinary Date Night to Remember. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a lovely couple, John and Bernice. They shared this photo, which captures the rustic elegance of the season, and of The Doctor’s House, too. Fall just might be turning out to be our favourite season!
I haven’t blogged in awhile, but I’m happy to take over the computer once again, to talk about a my favourite thing – swimming in the Atlantic. Yes, this photo was taken pre-Gonzalo – but still last week. I’m enjoying (and prolonging) my ocean dips as long as possible this season. Given my breed, my coat, and my enthusiasm, I still don’t mind dipping into the chilly waters – in fact, I insist! I just need a few Jerry and The Berry Cuddles when I get home! And please remember that pets are welcome at Ocean Delight, so all are welcome to join me and Friday. We love company!
Thanks to Gonzalo we had a very wet weekend – but a very nice one, too. We had a wedding with a beautiful couple that went well despite the weather, and I had some nice quiet, contemplative moments, drinking some coffee, listening to the rain, and relaxing. I do love rain – it cleanses the soul. A good rain is almost like a good cry. And thanks to Gonzalo, we had a great ‘cry’ this weekend!
