We’ve been blessed with lots of fun bloggers as guests lately, finding ourselves inspired by their love of travel and their desire to share their stories with the world. Candice Walsh from Candice Does the World recently stayed at The Doctor’s House, and boy, does she live to tell the tale. She particularly loved visiting our animals, and we particularly love her video of them! She’s been travelling all over Newfoundland (she really loved King of Cod Chris Chafe’s cooking!), part of her #SplittheRock Eastern Tour. We were actually part of the last leg of her journey – we can’t wait to see where she does next!
Great Guests, Great Review
Maybe we’re biased, but we do think we attract some of the best guests. We’re often as captivated by their stories and adventures, as much as they’re captivated by our view. It was truly our pleasure to meet Lindsay and Dana, two intrepid travel and food bloggers, traveling across Canada and racking up stories. We’re thrilled that The Doctor’s House made it to the itinerary, and we wish them all the best. And we highly recommend reading their post if you’re curious about what a trip to The Doctor’s House really looks like!
Soggy and Wonderful
What a weekend! We had a great Thanksgiving, and many happy guests. This picture was taken on a soggy Sunday with a malfunctioning camera and only allow a glimpse of the wonder of nature surrounding this piece of heaven. Makes me wish w I had a magic camera or the words to truly capture the beauty of this place!
We’ve been overwhelmed – in a good way! – with the number of guests taking advantage of our Date Night to Remember. It’s a special package at The Doctor’s House, good through November, that features dinner from our fabulous chef and hot breakfast, too. This Autumn is proving a great time to rekindle romance, and we’ve been only too happy to help in that department!
Where the Road Leads
As we wind down our second summer season at The Doctor’s House, we’re reflecting on the long journey that brought us here, and on the journey we’re planning for the future. It’s been a blessing getting to share this beautiful piece of our island with so many great people – including so many beautiful brides and grooms embarking on fantastical journeys of their own. We’re excited for them, and we’ve excited for where our own path may lead. Thanks to our neighbour Paul Seymour for sharing this lovely photo, which clearly has put us in a philosophical frame of mind!
Happy Thanksgiving
We have so much to be thankful for. This has been a busy weekend for us – but that’s just another blessing to add to the list. We hope that you’re able this weekend to take time to take time – enjoy your family, enjoy your good fortune, enjoy this beautiful province we call home. We truly are lucky. And thanks to our neighbour Paul for the lovely photo!
Saturday by the Bay
Thanks to our neighbour Paul Seymour for perfectly capturing that ‘aaah’ feeling you get when you overlook the water. There’s many reasons we Newfoundlanders cling to the coast. We, for one, are very happy that that is the case -we’ve been here for years, and every time we catch a glimpse of the water, we still catch our breath. What a blessing to live on this beautiful island!
Taste of Place
We were thrilled this week to help host what turned out to be a fantastic seminar about Food Tourism. Presented by the Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland, Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism and ACOA, it was led by the passionate and knowledgeable Rebecca LeHeup. She spoke to the connection between culture, agriculture, food, arts and tourism, and we had a great showing. Topped off with a meal from our own passionate and knowledgeable Chris Chafe (the veritable King of Cod!), we hope our 70 guests enjoyed themselves and learned something in the process!
Crisp Fall Day
A crisp fall day calls for a crisp fall photo, doesn’t it? Thanks to our neighbour, Paul Seymour, who often takes lovely photos and often shares them with us, for passing this one along. We love the way the red leaves match the red roof, and how bright all the colours look against the blue sky.
We’ve been busy this week, enjoying some corporate events, like yesterday’s Food Tourism Seminar, sponsored LCEN, ACOA and the NL Tourism. It was a lot of work but a lot of fun, and we hope everyone enjoyed themselves as much as we loved having them.
A Congratulations Are in Order!
Here’s Danielle and Justin, an incredibly sweet couple who recently got engaged at The Doctor’s House – and we couldn’t be happier for them! We’re always thrilled when we’re included in such special moments (and check out that ring!). We wish Danielle and Justin all the happiness in the world and the best of luck on their journey to marriage – and we hope to see them again soon! (And, did you see that ring!).
Thanks to Danielle for sharing her beautiful photos and story – we love getting feedback! Here’s what she told us on our Facebook page: “Was so happy with our stay the other night. what an amazing place, great animals who you can tell are so very loved, such cheery friendly people, and great food. But the lasting memory will always be getting engaged in your barn !! thanks for everything.”
To which we say a hearty thank you, and a hearty you’re welcome, too!
Happy Birthday Berry!
Yesterday was The Berry’s birthday, so Happy Birthday to her! Laurelyn is the mastermind of just about everything that goes on around here, and we couldn’t do any of it without her. Her birthday gift from Clifford George was this beautiful painting of The Doctor’s House, which she adores. You might remember that Cliff painted this at our recent Alice’s Tea Party. We can’t wait to find the perfect place to hang it.
