We love how the beautiful Danielle and Christian embraced the little rain that fell during the recent wedding ceremony at The Doctor’s House – with grace and humour, naturally! Ladies’ Retreat at The Doctor’s House
Due to some popular demand (thanks for all your Twitter love, peeps!), we’ve announced one of our Fall specials at The Doctor’s House early. Our Ladies’ Getaway Weekends are big hits, so we’ve announced a new one for this September. Bring three of your friends, and recharge, refresh and relax as you let us indulge you with spa treatments, hot breakfast, luxurious rooms, and a beautiful view while you sip wine and catch up with your besties. Follow That Chef!
We’re really excited to announce some new changes to our Dining at the Doctor’s House, the biggest of which is that Chef Cate, our beloved head of the Shag It, will be changing one post for another. Sundays through Tuesdays, she’ll now be preparing delicious 3-course meals made from scratch using local products and organic vegetables, at the nearby Doctor’s House. Pan-fried cod, marinated strip loin steak and spinach and cheese stuffed chicken breast are all on the menu, plus some great appetizers and desserts too (don’t worry, you’ll still be able to get your Chef Cate’s Famous Bread Pudding fix!).
We’ve also added some new open days to Dining at The Doctor’s House – Executive Chef Chris’ popular offerings are now available Wednesday through Saturday evenings. Please call 582-2754 or email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com for reservations.
We’ve had a great time this year, seeing all your happy, smiling faces at the Shag It Cafe, as you chowed down on Chef Cate’s yummy creations and enjoyed our stellar view. Cate’s move means we’re closing our Shag It doors – not for good, but for the rest of the summer. We can’t wait to see what Cate will do with all her expertise in her new beautiful setting, so please find her there, and remember that the Shag It is open year round for private functions, with seating up to 40. Thanks again for all your support – we loved every minute we were open this summer, and we hope you did, too!
And the World Swooned
This picture, amazingly captured on a camera-phone, has caused quite the commotion. Doesn’t it look like a magazine shot? It’s actually from Danielle and Christan’s wedding, our most recent at The Doctors House. The little girl is their daughter, who is very sweet – not unlike her parents, a beautiful couple that you can’t help but fall in love with. Our Little Ponies
Recently, our good friend Shirley George visited us at The Doctor’s House and took lots of stunning photos – you can see some more of them here. Of course, our favourite shots were of the Newfoundland ponies (enjoying their new fence, we might add). They’re our favourites probably for the same reason that, despite all the riches and beauty of this place, almost everyone seems to love the ponies best. They’re so gentle and friendly, love people, and of course are just beauties, too. We have to ask – have you pet a Newfoundland pony today?

Your Sunday Bouquet
There’s nothing like a fresh bouquet of flowers on a gorgeous summer’s day – unless, of course, than a bursting garden in your own backyard. The Berry and I have always been amateur gardeners, but living surrounded as we are by all the greenery of The Doctor’s House has been a real blessing this year. Thank to Shirley George for taking the lovely photo and letting us share it with you. Not quite fresh, but still up-close-and-personal!
The Wedding March Continues
We’re barely into August, and the wedding march continues at The Doctor’s House! We spent a lot of time working for and thinking about our first wedding season, and now it’s half over – with several happy couples happily married under our watch, we should add. This lovely photo of our reception hall was taken by our good friend, Albert Legge. And of course our resident wedding photographer is Allison George, whose lovely work we’ve also been lucky enough to feature on the blog. Biggest Catch of the Day!
There are a few days left to the recreational food fishery, and this happy camper is making the best of it! This wasn’t Anna’s first catch, but it was by far the biggest of the day. The perfect treat to bring home to her mom, our Dana, who we’re cooked it to perfection. Congratulations, Anna, on the steady hand!

Shag Rocks On
With our schedule being what it has, we haven’t gotten out on the water this summer as much as we would have liked. But with my daughter, Adrienne, visiting, it was all the excuse we needed to turn off the phones, and get up close and personal with Shag Rock. It never ceases to amaze me – it’s truly awe-inspiring. So thanks, Adrienne, for making us stop and smell the ocean air!
