Biggest Catch of the Day!

Fishing at our ocean front cottage rentalsThere are a few days left to the recreational food fishery, and this happy camper is making the best of it! This wasn’t Anna’s first catch, but it was by far the biggest of the day. The perfect treat to bring home to her mom, our Dana, who we’re cooked it to perfection. Congratulations, Anna, on the steady hand!

Have you taken advantage of the food fishery? Make sure you do – the next one’s not til September 21!

Shag Rocks On

boating to Shag Rock, NLWith our schedule being what it has, we haven’t gotten out on the water this summer as much as we would have liked. But with my daughter, Adrienne, visiting, it was all the excuse we needed to turn off the phones, and get up close and personal with Shag Rock. It never ceases to amaze me – it’s truly awe-inspiring. So thanks, Adrienne, for making us stop and smell the ocean air!

Congratulations, Victoria and Patrick!

Couple getting married at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaCongratulations to Victoria and Patrick from Glovertown, who recently got married at The Doctor’s House. It was a treat to have them and their wonderful family, to share this beautiful day. You can see more pictures of their gorgeous day here, and learn about our weddings here. And yes, that is Clifford George at the helm!

Iceberg Bits = Iceberg Ice Cubes!

ice berg icecubes in NLIcebergs are more than just pretty (and pretty awesome) things to look at. When their chunks wash up on shore, we like to collect them, keep them in our freezer, and use them as ice cubes! They’re about as refreshing as it gets, with lots of pop and fizzle when you pour in your drinks. Here, one of our iceberg ice cubes is being used with some good old Screech, but any cool beverage will do! Iceberg ice cube in a glass of NL screech

Beautiful Day

Trees at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaThink back for a minute to that long, dreary, never-ending winter we someone got though this year. Remember the coldest, wettest, snowiest, sludgiest day, shoveling your car out for hours before making the arduous trek into the office. There – if possible, we just made you appreciate summer a little more, didn’t we? Happy Sunday!

The Girls are Back in Town!

Family at our ocean front cottagesThese have been a few happy days for us, as Jerry’s oldest daughter, Adrienne, has been back in town – just 3 and a half years after her last trip home! We’re sure many Newfoundlanders can relate to having kids live away, and therefore understand how excited we are to have her back!

We’re doubly blessed this trip, as she’s brought her best friend (and fourth daughter to Jerry), Katherine, with her. This makes Katherine’s 2nd trip to the island, so she’s an honourary Newfoundlander for sure. Katherine brought the rest of her family, too, so there’s been a big, fun crowd to show around. They even got screeched in at the Shag It.

We’re so used to life out here that it’s refreshing to see everything through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time. We’re so happy that Adrienne and her good friends joined us, and so happy they had a great time. And hoping to spend as much precious time as we can with them!Newfoundland artist meets guests at our Newfoundland cottage rentals

All in a Day’s Work

installing a fence at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaHere are Hubert and Leslie, who can do just about everything, putting up a wrought iron fence at The Doctor’s House. It’s about 150 years old and had been seriously damaged, but a local welding shop refurbished it. With these expert hands installing it, we think it looks pretty nice! Shakespeare Comes to the Baccalieu!

Art event at the baccalieu trailHere’s a fun cultural event happening right here on the Baccalieu Trail that we hope many of our guests will partake of. The Perchance Theatre (formerly New World Theatre) has announced its August line-up of Shakespeare plays, to be performed at their outdoor Elizabethan theatre modelled after the Globe in London. They’ll be performing The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry V and the Muses and Minstrels, surely to much acclaim.

Book a picnic basket at Cupid’s Haven and make a day of it. And please note that they’ve got a summer camp for young actors. You can learn more about the theatre and their offerings here. And don’t we keep telling you – there’s so much to see on the Baccalieu Trail!

Our Sunday

Hammocks at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaLike surely all tourism operators here in NL during the summer, weekends are our busiest times. This weekend we had two weddings, and between them, tours, making sure our guests were happy, and the usual upkeep, we really don’t get a chance to stop. So for me and The Berry, Mondays are the new Sunday. Thankfully, there’s lots of places to relax here at The Doctor’s House. And thanks to Shirley George for the beautiful photo.
