Icebergs are more than just pretty (and pretty awesome) things to look at. When their chunks wash up on shore, we like to collect them, keep them in our freezer, and use them as ice cubes! They’re about as refreshing as it gets, with lots of pop and fizzle when you pour in your drinks. Here, one of our iceberg ice cubes is being used with some good old Screech, but any cool beverage will do!
Beautiful Day
Think back for a minute to that long, dreary, never-ending winter we someone got though this year. Remember the coldest, wettest, snowiest, sludgiest day, shoveling your car out for hours before making the arduous trek into the office. There – if possible, we just made you appreciate summer a little more, didn’t we? Happy Sunday!
The Girls are Back in Town!
These have been a few happy days for us, as Jerry’s oldest daughter, Adrienne, has been back in town – just 3 and a half years after her last trip home! We’re sure many Newfoundlanders can relate to having kids live away, and therefore understand how excited we are to have her back!
We’re doubly blessed this trip, as she’s brought her best friend (and fourth daughter to Jerry), Katherine, with her. This makes Katherine’s 2nd trip to the island, so she’s an honourary Newfoundlander for sure. Katherine brought the rest of her family, too, so there’s been a big, fun crowd to show around. They even got screeched in at the Shag It.
We’re so used to life out here that it’s refreshing to see everything through the eyes of someone seeing it for the first time. We’re so happy that Adrienne and her good friends joined us, and so happy they had a great time. And hoping to spend as much precious time as we can with them!
August Specials at The Doctor’s House
It’s the last day of July, which can only mean one thing – time to roll out the August specials at The Doctor’s House! This month we’re featuring a Stay and Spa Package, great for couples, as well as reduced prices on all rooms from Monday to Wednesday nights.
And of course all summer, we have a Coastal Combo Package – making it easy to combine stays at Ocean Delight and The Doctor’s House. Please email info@oceandelightcottages.com if you’d like to learn more!
Thanks again to Shirley George for the beautiful photos.
All in a Day’s Work
Shakespeare Comes to the Baccalieu!
Here’s a fun cultural event happening right here on the Baccalieu Trail that we hope many of our guests will partake of. The Perchance Theatre (formerly New World Theatre) has announced its August line-up of Shakespeare plays, to be performed at their outdoor Elizabethan theatre modelled after the Globe in London. They’ll be performing The Merry Wives of Windsor, Henry V and the Muses and Minstrels, surely to much acclaim.
Book a picnic basket at Cupid’s Haven and make a day of it. And please note that they’ve got a summer camp for young actors. You can learn more about the theatre and their offerings here. And don’t we keep telling you – there’s so much to see on the Baccalieu Trail!
Our Sunday
Like surely all tourism operators here in NL during the summer, weekends are our busiest times. This weekend we had two weddings, and between them, tours, making sure our guests were happy, and the usual upkeep, we really don’t get a chance to stop. So for me and The Berry, Mondays are the new Sunday. Thankfully, there’s lots of places to relax here at The Doctor’s House. And thanks to Shirley George for the beautiful photo.
Green Sunday
No, but it’s not green! One of our favourite aspects of The Doctor’s House, and one that our guests all seem to love, too, are our lush gardens. It’s not hard on a Sunday like this to stop and smell the roses, when you’ve got hundreds of flowers to choose from! We hope you’re having a great weekend, and please stay tuned – Shirley George took the beautiful picture you see above, and we’ll be sharing more, soon.
A Meal with a View
It’s the weekend, and that means it’s the perfect day for a meal with a view. The Berry and I might even treat ourselves to a lovely meal at the Shag It Cafe this Saturday – Chef Cate is up to all her popular old tricks, so why not? Thanks to the Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland for recently joining us, and for the gorgeous photos – you can see all their shots here on Facebook. And if you’d like to make a reservation (we were quite busy last weekend!!), please call 709-588-4649. Bon appetit!
