One Week Left to Get Your Heart’s Delight!

Firepit at our newfoundland cottagesAlas – it is that time of year. Only one week left to enjoy Heart’s Delight to your heart’s delight. We’ll be shutting down our Heart’s Delight cottages for the winter soon – but we’ve got one weekend left! And there’s a few spots remaining, and our ‘Shag It Breakfast Basket Speical’ will be ready and waiting for you.

You deserve a cozy getaway before the holidays pick up, and there are few spots left for next weekend, our last. Make your reservation here!

(And don’t worry – our Whiteway cottages will be open all winter long!)

Now That’s a View

View in NewfoundlandYes, I have a now well documented love of sunsets here on this gorgeous island of ours. But trust me – I don’t need the extra fireworks to make the view worth it. Here’s our beautiful view at The Doctor’s House, on a fine, fall afternoon. It’s all I need to see to fall in love with the place all over again. Here’s hoping that you enjoy equally delightful sights on this Sunday.

Two Weeks Away from ‘A Lovely Time!’

Merry Christmas from The Doctor's HouseFriendly reminder, Folks – we’re just one week away from ‘A Lovely Time in Green’s Harbour.‘ This fundraiser supports the Green’s Harbour Heritage Foundation, and it’s taking place in our barn loft at The Doctor’s House. It’s going to be a great way to kick off the season, surrounded by friends and neighbours united for a good cause.

We can’t wait – and to sweeten the deal, we’re offering special room rates for attendees (you can even add on a Date Night to Remember if you’re so inclined!). To find out more, please call 582-2754. And Happy Saturday!

All That Is Nice

Friends in NewfoundlandHere’s our friend, Edna, who recently stopped by for a visit. She was here on a lovely, sunny afternoon, which meant a walk along our 100 acres and meeting the ponies was in order. There’s a beauty to this place that makes you smile, and when a friend is there to enjoy it with you, that happiness is ten-fold. So thanks to Edna for joining us, and to all the friends who have been stopping by lately!

More Gorgeous Shots of Peter and Andrea

couple getting married in NewfoundlandAnother day, another set of gorgeous The Doctor’s House wedding photos to share. This past summer, Peter and Andrea got married at a small, intimate and still stunningly beautiful ceremony here in Green’s Harbour. These high school sweethearts had been together awhile before deciding to get married, and we’re honoured they chose us to exchange their vows. Their wonderful day was captured perfectly by Jennifer Jones Photography – you can see all the photos here. This is a particularly good read for any brides curious about what smaller weddings at The Doctor’s House look like.

And here’s what Jennifer had to say about her day shooting with us: “It was also my first time at the venue, The Doctors House, and i have to say how impressed i was with the grounds, staff etc. The meal was also amazing, a very creative take on traditional newfoundland fare… very impressed!”

Thanks again to Jennifer for sharing some of her gorgeous photos with us – see more of her work here.

Moon Set

moon riseIt’s always a delight when I rise early enough to see the moon set. It’s a bit easier now that the mornings are getting later. The real kicker is a beautiful sunset in the evening, and a contemplative moon set in the morning. That’s pretty easy here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, and just about all the awe-inspiring nature one could possible hope to enjoy in a 24 hour period.

Happy Halloween from Ocean Delight!

Halloween pumpkins in NewfoundlandBig Halloween greetings from our whole, big family here at Ocean Delight, and wishes for a safe, enjoyable evening. We don’t tend to get many trick-o-treaters here at the cottages – certainly not as many as we’d like! Not like in the days when my children were young, and our streets were filled with the sounds of laughter and candy wrappers unwrapping. To all the young families out there, I urge you to enjoy every last second – it doesn’t last!

Mug Up

Newfoundland artists Clifford and PamWe recently took the goldens for a walk hear Clifford George’s place – he’s next to miles of open country and trails.  On the way home we stopped it for a good old fashioned, unplanned Newfoundland ‘mug up.’   It wasn’t long before artist Pam Williams, a good friend of his, showed up.  It was a wonderful visit with wonderful friends.

Clifford and Shirley are warm and natural people – true Newfoundlanders.  You don’t need an invitation for a cup of tea.  You just need to show up. And if you have people like this in your life, count yourself lucky!

Upcoming Fundraiser for Green’s Harbour Heritage Society

Local Charity posterGet your dancing shoes ready. The Berry and I are both delighted to be working with the Green’s Harbour Heritage Society for a fundraiser coming up this November, and I’m delighted to be able to use our blog to pass along the news.

Saturday, November 21, is going to be rollicking fun time at our Barn Loft, with live music from Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne. All food will be prepared and served by volunteers, and a cash bar will also be available. All proceeds will go to the Green’s Harbour Heritage Society, which preserves and protects the historic treasures in our community.

Of course we will also be offering the ‘Date Night to Remember‘ package, which includes gourmet dining, AND special room rates for those wanting a more traditional meal and evening of entertainment at this ‘A Lovely Time of Year’ event. Please call us at 582-2754 for more details!
