Here’s our friend, Edna, who recently stopped by for a visit. She was here on a lovely, sunny afternoon, which meant a walk along our 100 acres and meeting the ponies was in order. There’s a beauty to this place that makes you smile, and when a friend is there to enjoy it with you, that happiness is ten-fold. So thanks to Edna for joining us, and to all the friends who have been stopping by lately!
More Gorgeous Shots of Peter and Andrea
Another day, another set of gorgeous The Doctor’s House wedding photos to share. This past summer, Peter and Andrea got married at a small, intimate and still stunningly beautiful ceremony here in Green’s Harbour. These high school sweethearts had been together awhile before deciding to get married, and we’re honoured they chose us to exchange their vows. Their wonderful day was captured perfectly by Jennifer Jones Photography – you can see all the photos here. This is a particularly good read for any brides curious about what smaller weddings at The Doctor’s House look like.
And here’s what Jennifer had to say about her day shooting with us: “It was also my first time at the venue, The Doctors House, and i have to say how impressed i was with the grounds, staff etc. The meal was also amazing, a very creative take on traditional newfoundland fare… very impressed!”
Thanks again to Jennifer for sharing some of her gorgeous photos with us – see more of her work here.
Thanks for the Thanks!
You might remember that this fall we had the pleasure of welcome Linday’s family to the Wonderful World of Whiteway. We always love it when family and friends come to visit, and this was no exception. And we always love wonderful responses like these!
Moon Set
It’s always a delight when I rise early enough to see the moon set. It’s a bit easier now that the mornings are getting later. The real kicker is a beautiful sunset in the evening, and a contemplative moon set in the morning. That’s pretty easy here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, and just about all the awe-inspiring nature one could possible hope to enjoy in a 24 hour period.
Happy Halloween from Ocean Delight!
Big Halloween greetings from our whole, big family here at Ocean Delight, and wishes for a safe, enjoyable evening. We don’t tend to get many trick-o-treaters here at the cottages – certainly not as many as we’d like! Not like in the days when my children were young, and our streets were filled with the sounds of laughter and candy wrappers unwrapping. To all the young families out there, I urge you to enjoy every last second – it doesn’t last!
Mug Up
We recently took the goldens for a walk hear Clifford George’s place – he’s next to miles of open country and trails. On the way home we stopped it for a good old fashioned, unplanned Newfoundland ‘mug up.’ It wasn’t long before artist Pam Williams, a good friend of his, showed up. It was a wonderful visit with wonderful friends.
Clifford and Shirley are warm and natural people – true Newfoundlanders. You don’t need an invitation for a cup of tea. You just need to show up. And if you have people like this in your life, count yourself lucky!
Upcoming Fundraiser for Green’s Harbour Heritage Society
Get your dancing shoes ready. The Berry and I are both delighted to be working with the Green’s Harbour Heritage Society for a fundraiser coming up this November, and I’m delighted to be able to use our blog to pass along the news.
Saturday, November 21, is going to be rollicking fun time at our Barn Loft, with live music from Jim Payne and Fergus O’Byrne. All food will be prepared and served by volunteers, and a cash bar will also be available. All proceeds will go to the Green’s Harbour Heritage Society, which preserves and protects the historic treasures in our community.
Of course we will also be offering the ‘Date Night to Remember‘ package, which includes gourmet dining, AND special room rates for those wanting a more traditional meal and evening of entertainment at this ‘A Lovely Time of Year’ event. Please call us at 582-2754 for more details!
Breakfast in Bed, Anyone?
I’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you about current special at Ocean Delight – it’s been quite popular this year, and we’re closing our Heart’s Delight cottages November 14 – so you’ve only got a few weeks left to take advantage there!
The special treatment this fall is that all 2 night bookings receive a complimentary breakfast basket on arrival, filled with freshly baked treats. And remember, our cottages include complimentary movies, wifi, cable and satellite TV. Make time to completely relax this season, right at the ocean’s edge.
This special is good at our Whiteway cottages through the end of November (our Whiteway cottages will also be open year round). To make a reservation, please email info@oceandelightcottages.com. Or, you book online as well – just be sure to add your complimentary basket!
Tuesdays with Murphy: Hopeall Falls
Ahhh … back in our swimming hole in Hopeall Falls. In the summertime, this spot gets taken over by local two leggeds. Thankfully for us, their dainty constitutions can’t handle a little cold weather, and only Friday and I can now choose to dip in the cooler water. We may be golden, but the blood of Newfoundland dogs runs through our veins.
And nothing makes us happier than when we get to take The Berry and Jerry to this nice spot, not too far from the cottages. They always get excited when we pack a picnic lunch for them. That keeps them entertained, while we stretch our paws in the clear waters. And as Guest Relations Manager, I’m happy to offer directions to any guests who ask how to get to Hopeall Falls!
Clifford Paints
Here is a picture (of a picture!) that our good friend, Clifford George, recently sent me. You should see his studio (all are welcome). It is bursting with art and beautiful creations like this one. I truly have been no place like it on earth.
Here is one he just painted, of flowers from his garden. Clifford tells me he uses different techniques and mediums to create his masterpieces. I tell him all I see is poetry.
Remember that like in all things in life, Clifford is generous with his gifts, and a devoted teacher. We’re happy that he’ll be leading a seminar (Release Your Artistic Spirit) at our upcoming women’s retreat. I may have to sit in on that one myself!
