It’s one little button, but it means a lot. We’ve received the 2014 Certificate of Excellence from TripAdvisor, and that means one thing – we have you to thank! Thank so much for supporting us and leaving us such great feedback on TripAdvisor, for Ocean Delight and The Doctor’s House. You’re helping us spread the word and bring the beauty of the Baccalieu to more visitors. And we can’t thank you enough!
Summer Hours at the Shag It, plus new Senior Discount!
As everyone recovers from what we hope was a fantastic Canada Day, we have some fun news. Starting this Thursday, we’ll be moving to new Summer Hours at the Shag it. We’ll now be open Thursday through Monday, from 11-7pm. Executive Chef and Backyard-Gardener Extraordinaire Cate Dore has tweaked our fabulous, fresh menu, and, we’re happy to announce that Fridays and Mondays we’ll also be offering a 10% Seniors’ Discount. Delicious food made from scratch, fabulous views and 10% off – who can resist that??
Thanks again to guests Stephen and Kayla for sharing some gorgeous photos of their visit.
Happy Canada Day!
Happy Canada Day from the big and growing Ocean Delight crew! Whether you’re at our place or yours, we hope you’re able to pull up a chair today, relax, and be grateful that we live in this peaceful and prosperous country. And maybe you’ll (safely) enjoy some fireworks, too.
Thanks for Shag It Executive Chef Cate Dore, for taking the photo of these yummy treats, and for offering them last weekend!
Capelin Rolling
Many thanks to Theresa Andrews, who shared these great photos on Twitter of this year’s annual capelin hunt. And by ‘hunt,’ we mean scooping the capelin into waiting buckets – so easy, even a child could do it (and a particularly cute one at that)! These little fish come to shore each summer to spawn, and it’s an assuredly centuries old tradition for Newfoundlanders to head down to shore to scoop some up, both to use as fertilizer, and for eating – Jerry loves his barbecued. Theresa got these great shots at Long Point Cove – you can see our cottages nestled away in the back corner. More proof that when we say ‘ocean-front,’ we mean ocean-front! Thanks again to Theresa for sharing – we love connecting on Twitter, so please find us there!
Sunset Sunday: Purple Enough?
Shag It Reviews (Again)
Maybe we’ve been waxing poetic too much lately about the Shag It, but we have been thrilled this year with the wonderful work Cate is doing, both in running and managing our cafe, and in creating really delicious, really fresh and fun food. Thankfully, our guests like to wax poetic, too. Here’s our guest board again – we’re so happy that they’ve been happy. Our favourite compliment? “Real food.” Hear, hear.
Shag It – We’re Growing Our Own!
Here’s a photo taken by the lovely Cate Dore, who runs and cooks all our lovely meals at the lovely Shag It. This is the budding garden she is growing, full of fresh greens to use in her creations. It really is a ‘living’ salad when it was growing just minutes before being (lovingly) thrown in the bowl! Just a reminder that it’s Friday, and Friday means one thing here at Ocean Delight – time to chow down at the Shag It. Hope to see you – today, tomorrow, or Sunday!

We don’t sent out many newsletters, but we do like to give our special fans early heads up about things like BOGO specials or discounts from time to time. If you’d like to stay connected and up-to-date with us, please sign up for our new mailing list here. And it’s our promise to you and to The Government that we never give your emails away, and we never spam!
Our Growing Menagerie – Wecome Mimi and Shadow!
We have two sweet little additions to our menagerie – please welcome MiMi and Shadow (or as we refer to them, ‘Me Me and My Shadow’). We took these semi-wild kittens in from a neighbour who didn’t have space – and they’re slowly getting used to being around people and, in our case, our big, giant Golden Retrievers, Murphy and Friday. They’re playful and cuddly (although we’re more convinced of the latter than they are yet!), young and adapting to their new home, and quickly becoming beloved members of the Ocean Delight family. Shadow even jumped up to join in a nap the other day – hopefully a ‘shadow’ of things to come.
Tuesdays with Murphy: Here’s to Bob Barker
As a gentleman Golden, it’s a topic I’m generally loathe to speak of, but Bob Barker was right – two-leggeds do need to spay and neuter their four-legged friends. My younger brother, Friday, was recently up at bat, so to speak. He managed like a champ, surely in large part due to my steadfast attachment at his side afterwards. Been there, done that, and I was happy to help in his recovery!
