Our Growing Menagerie – Wecome Mimi and Shadow!

New cats at our ocean front cottage rentalsWe have two sweet little additions to our menagerie – please welcome MiMi and Shadow (or as we refer to them, ‘Me Me and My Shadow’).  We took these semi-wild kittens in from a neighbour who didn’t have space – and they’re slowly getting used to being around people and, in our case, our big, giant Golden Retrievers, Murphy and Friday. They’re playful and cuddly (although we’re more convinced of the latter than they are yet!), young and adapting to their new home, and quickly becoming beloved members of the Ocean Delight family. Shadow even jumped up to join in a nap the other day – hopefully a ‘shadow’ of things to come.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Here’s to Bob Barker

Golden Retrievers at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaAs a gentleman Golden, it’s a topic I’m generally loathe to speak of, but Bob Barker was right – two-leggeds do need to spay and neuter their four-legged friends. My younger brother, Friday, was recently up at bat, so to speak. He managed like a champ, surely in large part due to my steadfast attachment at his side afterwards. Been there, done that, and I was happy to help in his recovery!

Don’t Make Us Blush!

Ocean front resort in NewfoundlandWe’ve been so busy getting ready for wedding season and just trying to offer the best possible customer service and experiences possible to our guests, that we often go to bed too exhausted to think of little else besides all our plans for the next day. We’re working on slowing down, but we don’t always take the time to step back and appreciate all that we’ve currently accomplished. That’s why it was a thrill to learn that MSN Travel included The Doctor’s House on their list of the top seaside resorts in Canada. It’s a small list, and we’re in stellar company, and we’re humbled and honored to have already made it to their radar. And we’re doing our best to live up to the accolades!

And big thanks again to guests Stephen and Kayla, who shared some of their beautiful photos (like the one you see above), on a recent stay with us. As you can see, we’re really seaside!

Our Ponies’ Debut!

Newfoundland ponyWe love our ponies and so do our guests, so it was only a matter of time before they got a little online-love! Thanks to Newfoundland & Labrador Tourism for their recent blog featuring all the wonderful things to do on the Western shore of Conception Bay. And thanks to blogger, Dominique Chiasson, for staying with us, writing such a nice review of The Doctor’s House, and including our girls, Bridie and Shamrock in it. They’re our rescued Newfoundland ponies, and we’re happy to get the word out about how special they are!

And thanks again to recent guests Stephen and Kayla for the beautiful photo of Bridie.

Many Moose

Newfoundland Moose in WhitewayAs we’ve already blogged, the moose are plentiful this year out here in Whiteway and Green’s Harbour – here’s a shot Clifford George sent us of a pair strolling down the streets. Thankfully they’re quite docile this time of year – and provide some great photo ops! Of course, they’re big animals and you should keep your distance, but they’re quite majestic and fun to spot, too.  Let us know if you see any!Moose in Newfoundland

Cook’s in the … Greenhouse!

Cook at our Newfoundland cottage rentals and cafeHere’s our wonderful grower, Barb George, getting up close and personal with some freshly grown peas! You may remember that this past winter we built a greenhouse. Well, as you can see, it’s up and running – and offering up lots of fresh greens for use both in Dining at The Doctor’s House and the Shag It. Cate and Chris, our Executive Chefs, are happy – and we’re even more so, because we get to enjoy the results.10414576_657541024327993_6111566468874699290_nGreens at our greenhouse at our Newfoundland cafe

Northern Neighbours Visiting (or, Bergs? We Got ‘Em!)

iceberg in Newfoundland near our ocean front cottagesAll over Newfoundland, our bays are filled with our annual visitors from the North, who drop down each summer to say hello. Whiteway is no exception, thankfully. Here is a big such iceberg that drifted past Shag Rock yesterday.  It was humongous, but you need a good photographer and camera to appreciate it – given how far away and humongous Shag Rock is itself.

Thankfully, our friend and neighbour Albert Legge is a good photographer with a good camera, and he shared his pics with us. Below is the view from the Shag It yesterday. Both are beautiful shots. What a province!Icebergs near our Newfoundland cafe and oceanfront cottages

A Dog’s Life

Golden retriever playing at our ocean front cottagesYou might have noticed that Murphy, our golden retriever, has been slack on his blogging duties lately! Normally, Murphy recounts all things four-legged for us in weekly posts. But it’s summertime, and that means there’s lots of dips in the ocean to be had, lots of visiting puppies to play with (since we are pet-friendly at Ocean Delight), lots of barbecues around which to stay alert for scraps! So, we’ll forgive him for letting his social media duties slide – when you see him and his brother, Friday, so happy playing fetch (which is serious business for a retriever!) how could we not?

Great Whiteway Neighbours

RV Park near our oceanfront cottage rentalsWith summer upon us and lots of travelers exploring the Baccalieu Trail, seems like a great time to introduce our Whiteway neighbours, the ShagView RV Park. Just like us, they’re right on the ocean, with front row tickets to viewing Shag Rock. They offer all the services you’d expect in an RV park, plus firepits, access to the beach, free WiFi and, again, that view! With 9 lots, we’re happy to direct RV’ers here anytime, with nightly, weekly, monthly and seasonal rates. Find them on Facebook, or just ask Jerry or The Berry to point the way!
