Breakfast in Bed, Anyone?

Breakfast Basket promoI’d be remiss if I didn’t remind you about current special at Ocean Delight – it’s been quite popular this year, and we’re closing our Heart’s Delight cottages November 14 – so you’ve only got a few weeks left to take advantage there!

The special treatment this fall is that all 2 night bookings receive a complimentary breakfast basket on arrival, filled with freshly baked treats. And remember, our cottages include complimentary movies, wifi, cable and satellite TV. Make time to completely relax this season, right at the ocean’s edge.

This special is good at our Whiteway cottages through the end of November (our Whiteway cottages will also be open year round). To make a reservation, please email info@oceandelightcottages.com. Or, you book online as well – just be sure to add your complimentary basket!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Hopeall Falls

dogs swimming in NewfoundlandAhhh … back in our swimming hole in Hopeall Falls. In the summertime, this spot gets taken over by local two leggeds. Thankfully for us, their dainty constitutions can’t handle a little cold weather, and only Friday and I can now choose to dip in the cooler water. We may be golden, but the blood of Newfoundland dogs runs through our veins.

And nothing makes us happier than when we get to take The Berry and Jerry to this nice spot, not too far from the cottages. They always get excited when we pack a picnic lunch for them. That keeps them entertained, while we stretch our paws in the clear waters. And as Guest Relations Manager, I’m happy to offer directions to any guests who ask how to get to Hopeall Falls!

Clifford Paints

Clifford George original paintingHere is a picture (of a picture!) that our good friend, Clifford George, recently sent me. You should see his studio (all are welcome). It is bursting with art and beautiful creations like this one. I truly have been no place like it on earth.

Here is one he just painted, of flowers from his garden. Clifford tells me he uses different techniques and mediums to create his masterpieces. I tell him all I see is poetry.

Remember that like in all things in life, Clifford is generous with his gifts, and a devoted teacher. We’re happy that he’ll be leading a seminar (Release Your Artistic Spirit) at our upcoming women’s retreat. I may have to sit in on that one myself!

Another Beauty

sunset shotHere’s another beauty, captured by an old colleague, Dave, who stayed with us this summer. Truly stunning, isn’t it? I always say there’s nothing like the sunsets here in Newfoundland and Labrador. But when nature has such a beautiful palate to work with all over the globe, is there such a thing as an evenings sky that isn’t stunning? Deep thoughts here on a Sunday!

All Inclusive. All Encompassing

wellness retreat promo at the doctor's houseA short post on what is hopefully a nice long Saturday for you. Just a little reminder that The Berry has putting on a heck of a wellness weekend this November. Our Just Breathe Wellness Retreat will be all inclusive – that means that a two nights stay, plus all your meals and snacks and $100 spa credit are included in your booking. Plus, some fun wellness activities, including time with the ponies! Find all the details here, and please email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com if you would like to learn more.

Brilliance of Fall

fall in NewfoundlandHappy Friday and Happy Fall, everyone!

Fall is season of colour, especially here in Newfoundland and Labrador and especially here at The Doctor’s House.  The colours seem to radiate as if they are fluorescent.

I have seen brilliant falls all over the world, but I love ours the best.  We currently (‘currently’ being the operative word!) have 200 maple trees, capable of producing between 1 ½ to 2 litres per tree. It’s a beautiful thing to see.

So, happy fall, happy Friday, and take a minute to stop and smell the change in the air!

Big Shaggin’ Thank You

thank you poster from the shag it cafeIn case you missed it, I’m sharing the news that we have officially closed our beloved Shag It Cafe for the winter. With a BIG thanks to our lovely staff. And another BIG thanks to all the folks who came out to enjoy a meal with a view. We have a lot of fun with the Shag It, and we’re already looking forward to bigger and better things coming in 2016.

In the meantime, if you’re looking for dining options in the area, don’t forget about Dining at The Doctor’s House, which is still going strong, and tasty. Our multicourse meals are exquisite, prepared by Chef Pynn using local ingredients. We can also host private dining parties at The Doctor’s House, so if you’d like to hear more (Christmas shindigs, anyone?), please get in touch at info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com.

Congratulations (to Us!)

Catered meals at The Doctor's HouseWhile we have a few more events on the schedule, we’ve winded down our 2015 wedding season. I’ve thanked them all many times over personally, but I’d like to publicly acknowledge our fabulous team.  We have had great challenges this summer and we overcame them – including the challenge of switching to self-catering, which (as you can see), Chef Pynn did with a-plomb.

It’s the commitment and dedication of our team that carried us through this summer, and for that we’re very grateful. And already looking forward to 2016!

Fairy Homes

Mushrooms in newfoundlandOne of the great things about the Wonderful World of Whiteway are the many hiking trails that surround us. We try to partake as often as possible – and thankfully, with the summer season winding down, that means we have more time to partake.

So, partake we did a few days ago, on a beautiful afternoon. And quickly  we came upon this huge mushroom.  We used to think they were fairy homes when we were kids – and yes, we really believe in fairies (in fact, some, like our good friend and Just Breathe guide Lisa, still do!).

There was always lots of mushrooms in the woods growing up, but this is one of the bigger ones I’ve seen – must be a fairy apartment building. Or perhaps a hidden Tudor Inn built by an Irish doctor, tucked away for when they need a weekend getaway!
