Shinny on the Ice
Newfoundland is such a great place to grow up. Especially since the young ones don’t seem to gripe about the cold as much as all of us ‘olds’ seem to! As you can see, the neighbourhood children have been enjoying themselves this winter with some ‘shinny on the ice.’ It’s just a little bit cooler, pun intended, than street hockey!
Love Bannerman Park
We’ve spent some time recently in St. John’s (it’s only about an hour away, so it’s not a big deal to travel back and forth), and so the goldens got to enjoy some city-time, too. Here they are in Bannerman Park, where they have finished a skating ring that is just beautiful. Lots of skaters with big smiles. Newfoundlanders sure know how to make those most of out (even a bad) winter!
Tuesdays with Murphy: St Paddy’s Hangover
I don’t think Jerry and The Berry enjoyed too many St. Paddy’s Day libations yesterday, but it’s no fun putting away the green and revelry. So today’s blog falls on a bit of a holiday hangover. Always one to get in on the fun, Jerry dressed accordingly yesterday (reportedly down to his skivvies, though you’d have to follow us on Twitter to find proof of that!). And, as we like to say in Newfoundland, we had a time!
Happy St. Paddy’s!
There are many ways to say Happy St. Patrick’s Day but a picture is worth a 1000 words. In Paddy’s Day lingo all we can say is O’Clifford, O’George – what a great and quintessential Irish photo.
Allison has certainly captured the spirit of the Irish in this great pic. Clifford could be a leprechaun, an Irish poet, an Irish thinker, writer or anything Irish. Thankfully, he’s also all-Newfoundland, and all of the above – a true artist and true friend, with a touch of magic, too.

Sunset Sunday: Sheer Beauty
I never get sick of this view, or of sharing it – on the blog, and with the guests at our cottages. It totally revives and replenishes the soul, every time. Happy Sunday!
Beautiful Salmon Cove
More proof of the glorious beauty here on the Baccalieu Trail. Here’s Salmon Cove, about a half an hour from our cottages. It’s a gorgeous spot for a day trip, winter or summer. We enjoyed a gorgeous afternoon here last week. There’s nothing quite like the Newfoundland shoreline!
Afternoon Walk
Here’s some shots from a rare afternoon off, when The Berry and I went for a drive to Salmon Cove, goldens in tow. Less than a half hour drive from the cottages, it’s quite the spot! It has a beautiful park, sandy beaches, beautiful scenery, a great trail and the perfect spot for picnics – summer is going to be great!
The dogs loved the beach and water, met new friends and played to exhaustion. And we were refreshed, pulled back from the brink of exhaustion, and reminded again of how lucky we are to live on the beautiful Baccalieu Trail. Congrats to our Wedding Show Winners
In preparation for our upcoming first wedding season at The Doctor’s House, we’ve been getting to know future brides and grooms at some local wedding shows – and having lots of fun doing it. We’ve been drawing for a Spa and Stay Package – meaning, after each show, one lucky winner receives a a free one-night stay with complimentary bottle of wine, plus breakfast for two and two Aveda spa services (this package is available to all guests who request it – check it out!).
