First Corporate Retreat at The Doctor’s House

Corporate Event at The Doctor's House

We had our first corporate retreat at The Doctor’s House this weekend and were very happy with our results, thanks to our hard-working staff. The Military Family Resource Centre joined us, arriving yesterday morning to coffee and treats prepared by Chef Anna and her team. They enjoyed lunch in the Doctor’s Lounge, followed by a short tour and time spent with the ponies, Rosie and Eweness before heading back to listen to Guest Speakers. Dinner in front of the fireplace and spa services enjoyed by some participants completed the event.

One couple brought along their grandson, who commented to his grandmother that being here was just like being at a friends house – that may be our best testimonial to date!Anna's Desserts

Big Barn Update

Construction project for wedding venue in NewfoundlandWe’re offering weddings at The Doctor’s House in July 2014, and we have some construction projects to finish before then. So we’re using the blog to keep our brides and couples updated about our progress. Here’s the Big Barn. It was actually too cold to do too much work last week (thankfully, we’re still on schedule). So our team just finished the lower extension last week, and will get busy this week if it warms up!

If you’d like to see about the wedding services we offer, please see here. And stay tuned to the blog, as we’ll be announcing the winners of our Spa and Stay packages that we drew after our two recent Bridal Shows.

Good Neighbours

Our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Since beginning our tourism journey with Ocean Delight Cottages a few years ago, we haven’t been able to stop raving about what we’ve dubbed the Wonderful World of Whiteway, not just for its physical beauty, but more for the warm, giving, funny and talented people we’ve met here. Now, The Doctor’s House is only a five minute drive from the cottages, but it’s in neighbouring town of Green’s Harbour. Since our new neighbours are equally fabulous, we’re going to come up with a new name … I’m not sure if ‘Great Green’s Harbour’ has the same ring?

Regardless, these gorgeous photos come to us from neighbour Paul Seymour, who reached out to us on our Facebook page to see if we’d want these beautiful shots. To which, of course, our answer was, yes! We know The Doctor’s House provides lots of photo ops, and we love when guests – and friends and neighbours! – share their beautiful pictures. Want a Fire?

Wood for the fireplace at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

We really mean it when we say The Doctor’s House is the perfect winter getaway – not too far from the city, we’re a warm and romantic refuge from the dreary season we’ve been having. And of course, there’s one key ingredient for a winter getaway – and that’s a roaring fire to cuddle up before and watch. We’ve got one in our dining room, and, as you can see, there’s no shortage of firewood. We’ll keep you warm! Our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Tuesdays with Murphy: Who’s Who?

Golden Retriever on a hike in rural Newfoundland, near our Newfoundland cottage rentalsThe best days are hike days, especially since we have so many beautiful walking trails around the cottages to explore. This lucky day, we had not one but two humans to accompany us. Not very often you get these two not-working at the same time! Golden retriever on a hike at our Newfoundland cottage rentals

Devotions Wedding Show a Fun Success

Our Wedding Booth in St. John'sThanks to our Events Manager, Dana, for helping us pull off another great booth at the equally great Devotion Wedding Show. We’ll be hosting weddings and receptions at The Doctor’s House starting this July – and we’re already excited by the positive feedback, by learning the industry, and by meeting all the happy couples who are considering us. It’s been fun! If you’d like to learn more about our facilities and wedding offerings, please see hereOur booth at a st. john's wedding convention

We also do draws at these conventions for a Spa and Stay Package, complete with couples’ massage and a stay in our Honeymoon Suite. We’re currently contacting yesterday’s winner. So make sure to stop by our booth, and to check out our Specials and Packages, too!

SunRISE Sunday

Outside at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsOf course I love sharing gorgeous sunset shots – there’s something so soothing about watching the sun set over the ocean! But lets not forget how peaceful and magical it is at dawn, when the sun just peeks out and begins to warm the earth (however weakly these days). I’m not an artist of a photographer, but I know there’s something special about the early morning light. I always say – there’s beauty everywhere and every day in the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

The Man Behind the Camera – Bud Vincent!

Newfoundland artist and photographerIf you read my blog, you know what I think about Bud Vincent, as a man (extraordinary) and an artist (also, extraordinary). He’s a stunning photographer and shares some of his beautiful shots with us to use here – in fact, Saturday’s I often feature his work. So today, here’s the man behind the camera. Bud was also at the Hospitality NL conference this past few days. Thanks, Bud, for sharing with us and adding a little character to this humble blog!
