This picture looks nothing less than miraculous, doesn’t it? Joe got it from his back window, and I love the feelings it evokes. Truly beautiful views here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway. Enjoy your Sunday!
Budding Saturday: Beautiful (if foggy) Elliston
Today’s Budding Saturday features the work of from Bud Vincent, a Newfoundland photographer extraordinaire. This picture is of beautiful Elliston. Of course I’m partial to all things Baccalieu Trail, but we’re very happy to be one stop on our guests’ travels. There’s so many beautiful places to visit on this beautiful island!
Weekly Specials at The Doctor’s House
I appreciate that people enjoy reading my blog so I try not to use it for selling or advertising too much (although I can’t help what Murphy gets up to – he’s a born marketer and likes to talk up the place!). But I thought I would take this Friday to share a fact you might not be aware of: each Friday, we release new, weekly spa specials at The Doctor’s House. They’re a great way to try us out or treat your friends at a great price. New specials will be posted each Thursday evening on our Specials and Packages tab, so be sure to tune in each week. This week – Eye Contour Treatments and a Carribbean Therapy Pedicure. And don’t think I don’t appreciate these treatments myself – I love being a metrosexual!

Out to Sea
We got a chance to go out on the bay on The Awake at Last – we have to grab these moments when they come. It was a beautiful evening and we cruised and pulled in to a quiet cove for a mug up (a.k.a. a picnic). It was splendid. We even got a few scuffs in listening to the Irish Descendants!
The fishing season opens on Saturday, so we should get a bit of time to enjoy that, too, especially since my youngest daughter will be here for a visit. Here’s hoping!
Tuesdays with Murphy: New Trails
You know me – always up for an adventure. That’s why I was thrilled when I was able to convince Jerry and The Berry to check out D’Iberville Trail on a fun day trip. It was an easy walk with great vistas – what more could a four-legged ask for? Any guests staying with us – please ask if you’d like some recommendations for similar things to do near the cottages, and please also see our Things to Do section. Just doing my job as Manager of Guest Relations!
Day Trips: Old Perlican
I always say Newfoundland is a day-tripper’s paradise, especially here on the Baccalieu Trail. Head out in any direction and you’re sure to stumble upon great little communities and great big nature. With the little free time The Berry and I have this summer, we’re trying to do a little exploring ourselves, checking out things on our own Things to Do page (a great resource by the way!). To that end, we recently checked out Old Perlican, a community on the northern tip of the peninsula, a little over an hour’s drive from the cottages. It was a really fun, leisurely day with lots of great scenery. And especially fun for Murphy who found a new place to take a dip! I’d highly recommend it (and guests, please always feel free to ask for recommendations!).
Sunset Sunday: Have a Seat
Thar She Blows – Whale Season in Newfoundland!
Now that it’s summer, there’s no better time to be out on the water. We were lucky enough to have a visit from Laurelyn’s daughter, Rebecca. On one of their days here, our guardian angel Alf took her and her friend, Justin, out for a boat ride to see Shag Rock, whales and eagles. And what a treat it was! They came upon a huge humpback who put on a show for them – up close and personal. He breached and dived and played with them. I wish we had been there!
Thankfully they got some great shots (you can see more on our Facebook page, here). And by the way, if you ever wanted to see how exciting it is to see whales in the wild, I think Rebecca sums it up, below! To any upcoming guests, please ask if you need recommendations for whale watching tours while you’re with us – and be on the lookout, as you can often seem them from the shore at our cabins!
Budding Saturday: Too Cute!
I think this is probably the sweetest Budding Saturday picture Bud Vincent has ever sent me! He says it’s a baby spotted sandpiper, a bird that frequents the shoreline constantly. I’m not sure if I’ve ever seen a baby one before – I think I’d remember a face that cute!
