Here is Mimi being Mimi. She is a wonderful and lovable cat, and we’re lucky to have her in our brood. We know she often visits our nearby cottage guests, staking out the property and keeping an eye on things. We’re lucky that she calls our home, ‘home.’
And she’s lucky that our home seems to be overflowing with warm blankets. If there’s a cat out there that can resist the pull of a cozy corner, I haven’t met it!
We’re proud and happy members of Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland, and we have been since we started our Ocean Delight journey. They’re a great organization that works with tourism operators to develop a stronger industry and economy through the region.
And we’ve certainly grown with them on our journey, to the point where we were delighted to host our last board meeting at The Doctor’s House. It was an amazing evening, with the most beautiful sunset of the summer, I swear. It was perfectly timed with a tour I gave of the property, which produced all the requisite oohing and aahing.
We also enjoyed a lovely meal, with some nice live music from Neil Simmonds. And all rounded out by some fantastic chats around a beautiful, roaring fireplace.
It made me grateful for all the support we’ve received from our fellow tourism operators – this truly is a collaborative industry that supports their communities. And grateful for the journalists who joined us as part of a familiarization tour – it was a pleasure to meet them all. And grateful for how far we’ve come in so little time. What an evening!
Every now and then I like to remind you that if you’re on our mailing list, then you’ll receive news about upcoming specials and special events. We’ve just announced our Fall Special, and it’s a fun one. Another week, another week of spa specials. Up now are Aveda waxing treatments, which effectively remove hair while ensuring maximum comfort. Or at least that’s what they tell me!

Quick, beautiful post for you today, as The Berry and I are too swamped this weekend to be relied on to put too many legible sentences together! I’m off to the Devotion Show today, and Laurelyn has the Q&A session for Miss Teen Trinity-Conception. So hopefully, you’ll have more time to stop and smell the roses, or stop and enjoy the sunset, more than we do!
We like to send followup emails to guests after they stay at the cottages, thanking them for choosing us. Sometimes we get great responses, like this recent one from Bethany and John: “We really enjoyed spending our wedding night at the Loon. It was so quiet and peaceful….and the cabin was cozy and clean. We would highly recommend the cabin to anyone who wants to get away for a relaxing holiday.”
So like they say on Reading Rainbow – we know the Loon and all our Heart’s Delight cottages are great for relaxing, but don’t take our word for it!
You know me – always up for a wedding show. It must be the extrovert in me, or the salesman. I get really pumped when I know I get to meet lots of potential clients, especially when I have a beautiful place like The Doctor’s House to share. Yes, it’s a long day, and I’m tired by the end. But it’s really fun to meet all the brides and grooms …. maybe I just love feeding off their youthful energy!
So this is your heads up – we’ll be at the Devotion Wedding Show this Sunday at the Mount Pearl Glacier, and we hope you’ll stop by and visit our booth!
It is Harvest Time at The Doctor’s House, and our greenhouses are near bursting with fresh, green produce. This bounty gets used at Dining at The Doctor’s House and at the Shag It, making our meals there healthy and sustainable – and so tasty, too.
Weddings at The Doctor’s House have really taken off this season, and we’ve witnessed some truly awe-inspiring events. Our couples, often working with decorators, are able to take the natural beauty of the place and enhance it in some really inspiring ways.
And what we’ve learned from all the weddings we’ve seen? At least when it comes to weddings here, keeping it simple is often your best bet. Many brides opt for the ‘rustic chic’ feel, to match our barn loft and wooded property. And that simple, rustic look is so beautiful, even when it’s pared down. Like this cake, from Hedi and Dave‘s wedding. Certainly not the gaudy wedding cake from my generation, but so perfect and on point.
