Get Knitting in Brigus this September 9!

BrigusIf you love Brigus (who doesn’t) and knitting (many of us do!), then there’s a fun event coming up next Tuesday. The Landfall Trust of Brigus asked us to pass along the following info, and we’re more than happy to do so!

Hello Fellow Knitters!

It’s time for the Second Annual Landfall Trust Knitters Outing. Spend a wonderful day knitting with friends at Kent Cottage, Brigus. Learn new skills and benefit the Landfall Trust at the same time!

Your $60 registration fee will earn you the chance to master two delightful mystery knitting projects. Knitting yarns and notions will be provided by Shirl the Purl and an elegant lunch (with vegetarian and gluten-free options) by Milly Brown. Bring only your needles (size will be specified later), a hearty appetite, lots of enthusiasm, and a folding lawn chair for alfresco knitting in the afternoon if it’s a fine day.. The session will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, on Tuesday, September 9th at Kent Cottage in Brigus.

Limited to 12 participants. Last year’s event was sold out quickly! You can register by emailing me at admin@landfalltrust.org or phoning me at 743.8244. Let your other knitting buddies know.

Literary Events in Brigus

Please see the above for a heads up of a fun literary event taking place in Brigus this weekend. You know that we love all things Baccalieu Trail, and we love Brigus. This event is celebrating the Kent Centennial. You can learn more details, including about who Rockwell Kent was, here.

Church Sunday: St. George’s Heritage Church

Continuing my Sunday Series highlighting churches throughout the island, here’s St. George’s Anglican church, a provincial heritage structure open for viewing that hosts concerts showcasing great Newfoundland talent, like Ron Hynes and The Morgan Brothers. This June, the church will host the final performance of the John Cossar and Jim Dorie Ballads and Barnacles Tour.

St. George’s is in sweet Brigus, a little community on the Baccalieu Trail and about an hour drive from our cottages. I have brought many a picnic there. Visitors to Newfoundland (and Newfoundlanders alike) who are here in August should definitely check out their Blueberry Festival – I know my Berry (Laurelyn) and I will try to.
