Shag Rock Sunday: Not Quite

Rocks on a Newfoundland beach in front of our cottagesSo maybe they’re not my beauteous Shag Rock.  But they are a reminder that there’s beauty all around us, even at our feet. Newfoundland may not boast white sand beaches meant for sun worshippers, but we think we’ve got something equally wonderful between our toes, don’t you? Thankfully, our Whiteway cottages are open all winter, and right on the water, so it’s easy to enjoy our beaches when you visit!

2014 Reflections: Welcome The Cranberry!

Our Honeymoon CottageWe’ve been blogging about our favourite memories from 2014, and of course who could forget the big splash of introducing The Cranberry, our new honeymoon cottage. We have all these beautiful weddings at The Doctor’s House, we just had to make sure our newly married couples had their own retreat, now, didn’t we??

An A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty, The Cranberry is a culmination of a lot (and a lot and a lot) of hard work, and offers that extra ‘something’ to our guests looking to enhance their journey to the ocean’s edge. This luxury cottage boasts 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including one large master suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It also has fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a 2-person soaker tub, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, barbecue, fire pit, and views of Shag Rock and stunning sunsets that will blow you away (all of our cottages have those last few, of course!).

Find more pictures of The Cranberry here, and don’t forget that it’s available all winter long. It makes a great weekend away, whether you’re technically honeymooning and just apt to pretend you are!

Coming Soon: A New and Improved Cranberry!

Our ocean front Newfoundland cottage rentalsWe’ve been blogging so much about the construction projects to get The Doctor’s House ready for our first wedding season that we’ve been remiss about another fun project taking place right here at the cottages. Every newly-wed couple needs a newly-wed retreat, right? So we’ve been turning the Cranberry into a two story honeymoon suite, complete with hot tub, fireplace and, of course, that Ocean Delight, ocean-front view. It’s been a lot of work, but we think it’ll be worth it. And it’s almost finished!

Happy Mother’s Day

Celebrating Mother's Day at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsHappy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there. We have some celebrating with us at Ocean Delight, and at our The Doctor’s House luncheon – and we’re more than happy to make their weekend getaways all that they deserve.

Of course, with The Berry, we have our own wonderful mother to spoil, too. And given all she does around here (trust us, it’s lots!), and all she does for so many – including her new granddaughter, and our menagerie of animals here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway – she really deserves it. Thankfully, we live at the ocean’s edge, which makes celebrating easy!

Budding Saturday: Talented Guests

Long Point Cove in Heart's Delight Newfoundland

Saturday’s are basically ‘Look How Pretty Newfoundland Is Day’ on our blog. We like to feature beautiful pictures of our beautiful province. Often that means pictures from the talented Bud Vincent. Today, we’re happy to share some pictures Peter Humby sent us from his family weekend at our cottages in Long Point Cove. Peter’s a return guest with a great family, and clearly an eye for photography. Thanks to him for sharing, and enjoy!

Picking the World’s Largest Cranberry

Moving a cottage in NewfoundlandHere we are picking up the new Cranberry up from our neighbour Craig’s house and planting it between the Blueberry and the Partridgeberry. It was The Berry’s idea to welcome this new unit to our Ocean Delight family, since the original Cranberry is being converted into a cafe and gift shop.

It was quite the feat. We had two boom trucks and a transport truck. It was tricky coordinating the trucks to be completely in sync. Gord and Martin did a fabulous job. And you should have seen John drive that truck. For video, please see here and here.

So the Cranberry  is now in its rightful place along the other Berries, thanks to The Berry and a fabulous team. We’re going to turn it into our first chalet – we can’t wait!Moving a cottage in rural NewfoundlandMoving a cottage to rural NewfoundlandCottage in Newfoundland

Tuesdays with Murphy: Summer’s Here!

Golden Retriever playing in the Atlantic Ocean at Newfoundland cottagesLots to be excited about here at the cottages (upcoming on the blog, you’ll be reading about a new cottage, some workshops, some new shenanigans from Clifford). But what I’m most excited about? The fact that the weather is starting to turn and that summer is upon us. I can’t wait for all the hikes, all the boil-ups, all the marshmallow roasts. And, most importantly, all the dips in the ocean! And pets stay free for the rest of June, so that might mean a few extra playmates for me!

Here We Go Again (Updating the Blueberry)

Since we’re not as busy as we were in the summer season, we’ve had time to upgrade as we continue on our mission to be the best on the island. So we recently gave the Blueberry another facelift. We put laminate flooring in the bedrooms and an antique headboard in the small bedroom. The Berry found it on Kijiji and it is gorgeous. Then we put in new night tables and lamps in the big bedroom, and mounted new Tiffany lights in the ceiling. We love the results and hope that our guests will, too!

First Real Snowfall

We have been decorating and running around taking photos after the first snow fall. Wow! It sure is gorgeous on a different level. It actually makes me appreciate winter – and that’s a very new appreciate for me! Everything crisp and pristine, everything Snow White. I’m even smiling while I shovel (for now at least!)

And my daughter came home for Christmas yesterday, so things are looking good here at Ocean Delight.
