So maybe they’re not my beauteous Shag Rock. But they are a reminder that there’s beauty all around us, even at our feet. Newfoundland may not boast white sand beaches meant for sun worshippers, but we think we’ve got something equally wonderful between our toes, don’t you? Thankfully, our Whiteway cottages are open all winter, and right on the water, so it’s easy to enjoy our beaches when you visit!
2014 Reflections: Welcome The Cranberry!
We’ve been blogging about our favourite memories from 2014, and of course who could forget the big splash of introducing The Cranberry, our new honeymoon cottage. We have all these beautiful weddings at The Doctor’s House, we just had to make sure our newly married couples had their own retreat, now, didn’t we??
An A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty, The Cranberry is a culmination of a lot (and a lot and a lot) of hard work, and offers that extra ‘something’ to our guests looking to enhance their journey to the ocean’s edge. This luxury cottage boasts 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including one large master suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It also has fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a 2-person soaker tub, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, barbecue, fire pit, and views of Shag Rock and stunning sunsets that will blow you away (all of our cottages have those last few, of course!).
Find more pictures of The Cranberry here, and don’t forget that it’s available all winter long. It makes a great weekend away, whether you’re technically honeymooning and just apt to pretend you are!
Glowing Cranberry
Thanks to our old friend, Amy, for sharing this stunning photo, captured on her recent trip to Ocean Delight. This, of course, is The Cranberry , our newly built, two-story and two-bedroom honeymoon suite. Guests here enjoy a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, a barbecue and fire pit, and this a 2-person soaker tub – and yes, that is ocean as far as the eye can see. Please remember we have a Couples’ Fall Getaway Special that lets you experience all the romance yourself, so check it out – you and your partner won’t regret it!
Introducing the Cranberry – Our New Honeymoon Cottage!
We are SO excited to introduce The Cranberry, our brand new ‘honeymoon’ cottage. An A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty, The Cranberry is a culmination of a lot (and a lot and a lot) of hard work, and offers that extra ‘something’ to our guests looking to enhance their journey to the ocean’s edge. Many of our marrying couples have booked it for after their weddings at The Doctor’s House, and we know that many couples and families will enjoy the deluxe accommodations and view.
For an ‘official’ breakdown: this luxury cottage has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including one large master suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It also has fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a 2-person soaker tub, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, barbecue, fire pit, and views of Shag Rock and stunning sunsets that will blow you away (all of our cottages have those last few, of course!).
Anyway, we can’t wait to share The Cranberry with our future guests, and it’s already booking up quickly. You can find more information or make a reservation here, and please find more photos on our Facebook page. It’s shaping up to be a great summer!
Happy Saturday
Happy Saturday, everyone! We hope you have a great weekend – and remember, we have lots of great Spring Specials lined up, so your next weekend could be your best one yet this year, spent with us. And if you’re wondering whether you should indulge this weekend, Murphy’s posing by Shag Rock to remind you, to just smile and say ‘Shag It!’
Tuesdays with Murphy: Bon Voyage Berry!
The Berry works so hard, so it’s hard to be selfish – she deserves a trip to Ontario to visit her family. But who will we snuggle with on lazy Sunday afternoons? Or any day for that matter? We’ll be quite sad without her these next few weeks, we’re sure, but we wish her a fabulous vacation filled with lots of love and relaxation. And we’ll be waiting with open paws when she gets back!
Happy Friday
A short post after a long week. We’ve got lots on our ‘to-do’ list, but also lots to be thankful for. Like, freshly fallen snow, and a sweet dog to roam in it. I hope you’re all preparing for a fun weekend. We’ll be serving dinner at The Doctor’s House, so that’s always a plus. And our Stay In and Stay Warm special is still going strong. Anyway, happy Friday!
Construction on Wedding Banquet Hall Begins at The Doctor’s House!
We’re working hard to turn The Doctor’s House a world-class wedding destination. One of our steps is converting our big barn into a banquet hall that seats 200 people. We started work last week with Point Contracting, the local contractor who also built our house and cottages.
For all the grief that the winter weather has brought us, this current thaw allows us to get a foundation in early. This is a big move to help keep us on schedule.
So here are the ‘before’ shots of the Big Barn Project. We’ll use this blog to keep all our booked wedding couples booked appraised of our progress.
And don’t worry – since this barn was currently empty, we’re not putting out any of our animals. They’re still snug-as-a-bug in their current home!
A Day Just Right
What weather we’ve been having. It was such a beautiful day yesterday that we decided to take Murphy on a walk along Jimmy Rowe’s Trail here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway (not far from the cottages). It was a great walk – refreshing and uplifting. And it was one of those great work days when everything goes right. So definitely a count-your-blessings kind of day. We’re glad then that people are taking advantage of our Stay In and Stay Warm package for the cottages this winter – that plus the weather just sweetens an already sweet deal.
In My Heart’s Delight
Sometimes, Laurelyn and I like to spend time in our cottages in Heart’s Delight. It’s nice to spend the weekend where our journey began around two years ago. It is hard to imagine we didn’t own these cottages until Nov. 26, 2011. Spending time here, looking out the window, puts it all in perspective. This place is magical and therapeutic – and so worth all the time and energy we give it. Even as we approach the winter months, we’re still so lucky to be able to get out here every chance we get. If you’d like your own magic and therapy, stay tuned and please sign up for our mailing list, as we’ll be sending out a new offer from the cottages soon.
