Because Presentation Is A Beautiful Thing

Dining At The Doctor's HouseYou might remember Terrie-Lynn, whose daughter, Hailie, formed a special bond with Bridie this summer. Well, I’m happy that Terrie-Lynn also clearly has an eye for photography. Couple that with a chef at Dining at the Doctor’s House who has an eye for presentation, and you have a blog match made in heaven. And don’t forget that our Fall menu is now available (and it’s fantastic), and with the weather cooling down, it’s never been a better time to warm up by the fire, for a ‘multi-course’ evening!

New Fall Menu!

Cheese PlatterIt with great pleasure that I share our new fall menu, the brain child of our fabulous Chef Stephen Pynn. He’s used locally sourced ingredients, including produce from our own greenhouses, to create a fine dining experience that is out of this world.

And lucky us – as inn proprietors, the responsibility of testing each item on the menu falls on The Berry and me. It’s a tough job, but we’ll manage! With items like Baccalieu Trail Seafood Stew (featuring salt cod, coldwater shrimp, and Trinity Bay mussels), Slow Roasted Duck Breast (featuring sardelaise potatoes, blueberry gastrique, and sour cherry jus) and Salted Chocolate Cake (featuring peanut butter semifredo and pecan crumble), I don’t think sampling the menu will be too difficult a task.

Remember that Dining at The Doctor’s House is a fine dining experience, meaning that on top of your three main courses, you also enjoy chef’s amuse bouche, sorbet, and tea or coffee. The whole meal can take two hours or more, and trust me – it’s an experience onto itself. A bit of good company, a splash of good wine, and a table of good food, and those two hours fly by.

This Friday we’ve also got Neil Simmons joining for more live music. What a treat he was last weekend. He’s only going to be playing select weekends this fall, so enjoy him while you can! To make a reservation, please call 709-582-2754, and find our complete menu here. Dine-in only guests are always welcome!

Save Room!

Dessert at our newfoundland resortHere’s a friendly reminder – if you’re Dining at The Doctor’s House tonight, be sure to leave room for dessert! Our fine dining experience takes about 3 hours, with plenty of time to savour each of your three courses, plus the fresh bread and the amuse-bouche (single, bite-sized hors d’œuvres to cleanse the palate) between each. We’ve enjoyed Executive Chef Stephen Pynn’s creations many times over, and always enjoy the experience.

This dessert is The Berry’s favourite – Dark Chocolate Marquise with Newfoundland and Labrador sea salt and citrus creme fraiche. We also have homemade Sour Cream Donuts with Screech caramel and thyme (my daughter’s favourite), and a Cheese Plate with artisanal cheeses, candied nuts and wild berry compote (my favourite).

Dining at The Doctor’s House is open to everyone – not just overnight guests – but we do ask that you call 709-582-2754 to make a reservation. Perhaps tonight is the night you indulge! Happy Saturday!

Cheese, Please

Cheese platter for our last weddingHard to believe our first wedding of the season was already a week ago – time flies! Here’s a little veggie and cheese dip platter that Chef Stephen Shepherd lovingly put together for Renee and Chris – he is truly an artist, specializing in chocolate and pastries, and he catered their wedding to rave reviews.

And of course, he’s not to be confused with Chef Stephen Pynn, our amazing excutive chef who has created a new, fine dining experience at The Doctor’s House. Dinner is served tonight – perhaps we’ll see you there?

New Breakfast Menu at The Doctor’s House!

Coffee with breakfastI’m excited about this one, because breakfast is my favourite meal of the day. And we’ve just released a new breakfast menu at The Doctor’s House. You don’t need to be an overnight guest to enjoy it either – just a fan of locally sourced and exquisitely prepared food! New Fall Menu

Capture‘King of Cod’ Chris Chafe has done it again – this time perhaps even out-doing himself. Here’s his newly created Fall menu for Dining at The Doctor’s House. I guess Laurelyn and I will just HAVE to try out each one of these combinations! If you’re equally tempted, please remember that we serve dinner Wednesday through Saturdays, to both guests at our inn and the general public – we just ask that you make a reservation first. And you can do just that my calling 582-2754 or emailing info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com. Bon appetit!

Shag It – It’s Father’s Day!

Bread Pudding at our Newfoundland cafe in rural NewfoundlandJust a reminder (ahem, my three daughters!) that this coming Sunday is Father’s Day. And a head’s up, too, that we’ll be featuring a special Father’s Day Dinner at the Shag It. On offer – soup or salad, homemade buttermilk biscuits, a three course old-fashioned roast beef dinner, and Chef Cate’s Almost Famous Bread Pudding (looks good, doesn’t it?). Find all the details, plus how to make your reservation, here.

Thanks to guests Stephen and Kayla for the lovely photo!

Joe’s Bar

Bar at a hotel in Newfoundland

Joe brings a lot to the table, so to speak, in his many duties. For example, he was an exceptional bartender for many years before coming to the Wonderful World of Whiteway. So we’ve set up this beautiful bar in our dining room at The Doctor’s House. Now you can sip Joe Friday’s creations by the fire – how sweet is that? And don’t forget, we’ve got a great New Year’s planned, complete with gourmet dining, live music and fireworks at midnight – we hope you’ll join us – and Joe!
