Tuesday’s with Murphy: Snugglin’

cozy goldens in newfoundlandWhen they say ‘it’s a dog’s life,’ they mean that as a good thing, right? Because for Friday and me, it’s a dog’s life, and it’s spectacular. We get tired, we get the two-leggeds to fetch out blankets, and we cuddle up. Two big goldens together can generate quite a lot of heat – important now that things are getting cooler (nay, Christmas-y!) here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

So yes, cuddling is a key factor in enjoying the cottages, especially now. So that’s why we’ve asked The Berry to offer our guests complimentary breakfast baskets for all two night bookings this November. It makes sleeping in so much easier. Learn more about them here!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Hopeall Falls

dogs swimming in NewfoundlandAhhh … back in our swimming hole in Hopeall Falls. In the summertime, this spot gets taken over by local two leggeds. Thankfully for us, their dainty constitutions can’t handle a little cold weather, and only Friday and I can now choose to dip in the cooler water. We may be golden, but the blood of Newfoundland dogs runs through our veins.

And nothing makes us happier than when we get to take The Berry and Jerry to this nice spot, not too far from the cottages. They always get excited when we pack a picnic lunch for them. That keeps them entertained, while we stretch our paws in the clear waters. And as Guest Relations Manager, I’m happy to offer directions to any guests who ask how to get to Hopeall Falls!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Crout’s Way

Hiking with dogs in NewfoundlandJerry and The Berry get quite busy this time of year – Friday and I try our hardest to keeps guests happy, but sometimes you just need those  opposable thumbs to get all the work done.

So I’m reminding Jerry with this blog post that the trail to Crout’s Pond is just a short drive from the cottages, and the hike to Crout’s Pond is flat, not too long, and sure to extra pretty this time of year. And no matter how busy you get, a walk with some handsome dogs in a beautiful forest is always restorative.

And of course, by this point, the snow is melted, the sun is starting to shine, and pets stay free at the cottages all June long – so it’s never been better for us four-leggeds to explore the nooks and crannies of the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

Tuesdays with Murphy: A Dip in the Briny Sea

dog in the atlantic oceanHere I am in Long Point Cove, home of our feathered-friend-inspired cottages (the Puffin, the Loon, the Gannet and the Osprey). Here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, my fetch-in-the-ocean tastes have become quite refined, and Long Point Cove has become one my favourite spots. A little sheltered, private, right next to cottages I can use to dry off and warm up – it’s a dog’s paradise. Which is why I’m hoping lots of new four-leggeds will take advantage of our current special here at the cottages (pets stay free this June!), so that I can introduce more city dogs to the joy that is stretching your paws in the Atlantic Ocean. They never regret it!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Pets Stay Free This June!

dogs playing at our ocean front cottage rentalsOh boy, oh boy, oh boy – I’m reprising my role as blogger, because I have some very happy news to share. Jerry and The Berry have just announced their summer specials – and top of the the list is a great one: pets stay free all June long, as long as you make a 2 night reservation!

I’m excited about this news on a professional and personal level. Professionally, as ambassador for the cottages, I know that we four-leggeds need getaways as much as the two-leggeds we own. Especially since city dogs really need some time and space to run around, maybe take in one of the many hiking trails around here, or go for a dip in the ocean (chilly, but still my favourite activity!).

And personally, I can’t wait for all the new friends I’m going to be meet! Find more details and all our summer specials here, and if you’re like to to book, please call 1-877-588-2026, email info@oceandelightcottages.com, or make your online reservation here.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Sprawled Off

pets at our cottagesIt’s a dog and cat’s life, here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway. There’s always a new guest to meet, a two-legged to entertain, a few sticks to save from the waves of the Atlantic ocean. We only get 4 or 5 naps like this a day, so we have to make the most of them! Here I am with Shadow, reminding you that two pets are better than one (that’s why I hope you take advantage of our pet’s welcome policy here at the cottages and bring some friends for me to play with this summer!). And reminding Jerry and The Berry that sometimes it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie!

Dog Heaven

Two goldern retrievers at our newfoundland cottage rentalsWhenever we get a moment, we try to enjoy what our guests enjoy. Like walking along the ocean’s edge. We know that Friday and Murphy certainly enjoy it, too! It really is a dog’s heaven out here, and we’ve got to strong and healthy boys to prove it. Remember that pets are welcome at our cabins for a small fee, and our Couple’s Fall Getaway Package is still on. Maybe Murphy and Friday will getting some company soon!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Here’s to Bob Barker

Golden Retrievers at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaAs a gentleman Golden, it’s a topic I’m generally loathe to speak of, but Bob Barker was right – two-leggeds do need to spay and neuter their four-legged friends. My younger brother, Friday, was recently up at bat, so to speak. He managed like a champ, surely in large part due to my steadfast attachment at his side afterwards. Been there, done that, and I was happy to help in his recovery!

A Dog’s Life

Golden retriever playing at our ocean front cottagesYou might have noticed that Murphy, our golden retriever, has been slack on his blogging duties lately! Normally, Murphy recounts all things four-legged for us in weekly posts. But it’s summertime, and that means there’s lots of dips in the ocean to be had, lots of visiting puppies to play with (since we are pet-friendly at Ocean Delight), lots of barbecues around which to stay alert for scraps! So, we’ll forgive him for letting his social media duties slide – when you see him and his brother, Friday, so happy playing fetch (which is serious business for a retriever!) how could we not?

Tuesdays with Murphy: Shag It!

Golden retrievers playing at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsIt’s getting nicer, but we’re still waiting for that hot summer weather to kick in. And of course. the Atlantic Ocean is cold any time of the year up here in Newfoundland. So you might think dogs would eschew playing fetch in the chilly water these days, and you’d be right – some dogs might. But Friday and I have warm coats and warm blood, descended as we are from the Newfoundland and the archaic St. John’s dogs. So when Jerry throws us some sticks, there’s only one response – Shag It, and jump in!Dogs chasing sticks in the Atlantic Ocean at our ocean front cottage rentals in Newfoundland
