Tuesdays with Murphy: Bon Voyage Berry!
The Berry works so hard, so it’s hard to be selfish – she deserves a trip to Ontario to visit her family. But who will we snuggle with on lazy Sunday afternoons? Or any day for that matter? We’ll be quite sad without her these next few weeks, we’re sure, but we wish her a fabulous vacation filled with lots of love and relaxation. And we’ll be waiting with open paws when she gets back!
Spring Specials at The Doctor’s House
A few days ago we wrote about our Spring Specials at the cottages, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t also point out that our sister property, The Doctor’s House, has some tempting offers, too. We’ll be open there for Easter and Mother’s Day, offering a fabulous brunch prepared by our in-house chef. We also have options to add a second night for $99, or two 60-minute Aveda spa treatments for $129. Relax this Boxing Day
It’s Boxing Day, and Friday is encouraging us all to relax (like he is) and smell the Christmas dinner leftovers. We’re spending Christmas with our family – and many animals – at The Doctor’s House. One word describes it – divine. Here’s our most sincere wishes that yours is, too. And since it’s not too late to consider New Year’s plans, we’d love it if you considered spending it with us.

Fun Meals
Sometimes Laurelyn and I have to go into St. John’s to run errands and tend to some affairs. It’s often hectic and rushed, but always worth it when we get to spend time with her son, Adrian. Here were are at Sun Sushi, which ….. has grown on me.

The Berry’s Birthday
We recently celebrated Laurelyn’s 49th (again) birthday. Her son, Adrian, and I cooked brunch yesterday – waffles, moose sausages, bacon, and ham, and all the fixins. It was quite the meal, as we celebrated family and blessings.
Later we took Murphy, Friday (our new golden retriever!), and Rosie for a walk at The Doctor’s House, again revelling in our many blessings.
We finished the night with dinner at the Shag it – a wonderful place designed by The Berry, and more to celebrate again. We’re quite lucky, and I love when special occasions like birthdays come along to help us stop and reflect a moment on all the important things in life. It’s a great feeling!
Tuesdays with Murphy: Cousin Jayson
Of course I love all our guests and take my duty as Guest Relations Manager quite seriously. But my job is always just that little bit more fun when family comes to visit. This is Jerry’s nephew, Jayson. I guess that makes him my cousin? Either way, he doted on me, I doted on him, and it was fun to have him around!
Jayson was visiting Ocean Delight for a weekend getaway, only about an hour outside Torbay, where he’s from. If you’d like your own retreat, remember that we’ve got some great fall specials, both at Ocean Delight and at The Doctor’s House. I hope to see you soon!
Shag It Joe
Anyone who had been to the cottages (or reads this blog regularly, for that matter), knows the many faces of Joe. He’s a service manager extraordinaire, doing any odd jobs you can think of, always going above and beyond, always anticipating our guests’ needs before they do. What can we say, we wouldn’t make it without Joe Friday!
And now that we’re running the Shag It Cafe and Gift Shop, that couldn’t be more true. It’s been crazy opening up this new venture (which is at our Whiteway cottages location), we have lots of great new staff, and we’re busy working on our kinks and getting it right. And we couldn’t have done that without Shag It Joe. Or is that Joe Shag It? Hm, not sure if either of those sounds right!

‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
You know I like to keep this blog Ocean Delight-centric, but since it’s Christmas Eve I hope you’ll allow me this personal indulgence. If you know me, you know nothing compares in my life to my three beautiful children. And some of my dearest Christmas memories are of reading them ‘The Night Before Christmas’ on Christmas Eve. When they were younger, they listened in rapt attention – and when older, as you can see, I felt a little more free to add my own irreverent verses. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas, and that you enjoy your families as much as The Berry and I do and are creating some lasting memories. Merry Christmas from Ocean Delight.
