It hasn’t been our best summer weather-wise in Newfoundland this year, but thanks-be-to-goodness we are now in growing season. We have some beautiful greenhouses, but it’s time for those sheltered plants to have their day in the sun. Here’s Barb wheeling another load to be planted by The Guest House (where our Ladies’ Retreat package is still available, by the way). I think that old adage rings true – better late than never!
Summer’s Last Hurrah
Since this is the last long weekend of the summer, we know it will soon be time to say bye-for-now to our beautiful gardens at The Doctor’s House. They’re been a highlight this season, as we’ve lived here and gotten acquainted with this beautiful property. Thankfully, we’ve got lots of walking trails, lots of trees, and lots of beauty coming as we get into fall. But for now, here’s one last celebration of our beautiful flowers! And thanks again to Shirley George for the lovely photos.
Your Sunday Bouquet
There’s nothing like a fresh bouquet of flowers on a gorgeous summer’s day – unless, of course, than a bursting garden in your own backyard. The Berry and I have always been amateur gardeners, but living surrounded as we are by all the greenery of The Doctor’s House has been a real blessing this year. Thank to Shirley George for taking the lovely photo and letting us share it with you. Not quite fresh, but still up-close-and-personal!
Blooming Sunday
Sunday’s the perfect day to stop and smell the roses, or any of the brightly coloured flowers here at The Doctor’s House! Since we’re in full bloom, we invited our good friend (and good photographer), Shirley George, to come take some photos. The results are stunning – you can see all her beautiful photos here. We hope you’re having a fabulous weekend, and please, take some time to smell whatever flowers you happen to have near!
Spring Has Sprung
We’ve had some beautiful days here lately – sunny, warm but not too warm, no wind. We’ve been treated to beautiful sunsets, flowers bursting forth, birds and bees getting busy with their spring cleaning. Perry was right – it is gorgeous out here this time of year. We’re looking forward to a fun, busy weekend. The Shag It will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-7pm. We hope to see you out on the patio, enjoying Spring with us!
Sunday Greetings
Sunday greetings, everyone! Jerry is away visiting his daughters in British Columbia, enjoying some sunshine and some much needed R&R. In the meantime, here’s a shot from The Doctor’s House in winter, to remind us that things are going to start looking beautiful here really soon. Jerry brought great weather with him to B.C. – and maybe he’ll bring some back with him when he gets home next week!
Things to Come
We’ve all said it a million times in a million ways this season – we’ve had a rough winter! But it’s May, it’s Friday, and at The Doctor’s House, some flowers are poking their heads up! These flowers are surely a sign of beautiful things to come. Set on over 100 acres of rambling fields, groomed walking trails and English gardens, we’re sure the foliage at The Doctor’s House will be stunning this year – we can’t wait til it all starts blooming!
Early Valentine’s
Given how much work she does for us, Valentine’s deserves to start early for Laurelyn. And especially now that The Doctor’s House is en route to being the top romantic Valentine’s location around, I need to up my game. So there’s been lots of beautiful flower bouquets at our place recently. How am I doing?
Tulips Are Better Than None
It is beginning to look a lot like spring, especially with a fragrant bouquet to brighten the room. Soon we’ll be growing our own tulips at The Doctor’s House, which has the most amazing English gardens. For now, we’ll take the mild weather, and all the extra excuses to cozy up.
Still Blooming
Here are some flowers The Berry’s daughter, Rebecca, gave her last Mother’s Day. They are still blooming beautifully at The Doctor’s House, and making us smile. The Doctor’s House is magical. The colours are starting to change around the fields, and they say it will be spectacular in a couple of weeks. I can’t wait to see it. Stay tuned to the blog for what I hope are some gorgeous fall colours!
