All That Is Nice

Friends in NewfoundlandHere’s our friend, Edna, who recently stopped by for a visit. She was here on a lovely, sunny afternoon, which meant a walk along our 100 acres and meeting the ponies was in order. There’s a beauty to this place that makes you smile, and when a friend is there to enjoy it with you, that happiness is ten-fold. So thanks to Edna for joining us, and to all the friends who have been stopping by lately!

Mug Up

Newfoundland artists Clifford and PamWe recently took the goldens for a walk hear Clifford George’s place – he’s next to miles of open country and trails.  On the way home we stopped it for a good old fashioned, unplanned Newfoundland ‘mug up.’   It wasn’t long before artist Pam Williams, a good friend of his, showed up.  It was a wonderful visit with wonderful friends.

Clifford and Shirley are warm and natural people – true Newfoundlanders.  You don’t need an invitation for a cup of tea.  You just need to show up. And if you have people like this in your life, count yourself lucky!

Good Neighbours

Our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Since beginning our tourism journey with Ocean Delight Cottages a few years ago, we haven’t been able to stop raving about what we’ve dubbed the Wonderful World of Whiteway, not just for its physical beauty, but more for the warm, giving, funny and talented people we’ve met here. Now, The Doctor’s House is only a five minute drive from the cottages, but it’s in neighbouring town of Green’s Harbour. Since our new neighbours are equally fabulous, we’re going to come up with a new name … I’m not sure if ‘Great Green’s Harbour’ has the same ring?

Regardless, these gorgeous photos come to us from neighbour Paul Seymour, who reached out to us on our Facebook page to see if we’d want these beautiful shots. To which, of course, our answer was, yes! We know The Doctor’s House provides lots of photo ops, and we love when guests – and friends and neighbours! – share their beautiful pictures. New Year’s Recap

Celebrating New Years at The Doctor's HouseBetween recouping and the weather and power issues, I completely forgot to do a recap of our New Year’s Eve party at The Doctor’s House. We had a great time with great guests, loved our gourmet meal, and enjoyed lots of dancing and fireworks into the night. It was our first big event we’ve hosted – we enjoyed it, learned a lot, and hope to offer more such occasions in the future. Thanks again to our staff and to the guests who came to celebrate with us. And we hope you have a truly blessed New Year.

Thanks to Clifford and Shirley George, who joined us and sent us these lovely photos. Oh, what a night!Guests in NewfoundlnadGuests in NewfoundlandGuests in Newfoundlnad

Ladies Night Out at The Loon

Guests at our ocean front cottagesThanks to Joe Friday for this pic and story, and for always taking such good care of our guests. These lovely ladies came and stayed at The Loon cottage for their annual Ladies’ Night. Here’s Jenny, Sidney, Marina, Joann and Jill.

I love the thought of friends making time to get together and treat themselves in the process. I know my daughters have friends in far-flung places, and they try to make an effort to get together for the weekend at least once a year. It’s so important for maintaining those bonds – and therefore the quality of our lives. (And please note that at The Doctor’s House we have a special package this fall especially designed for a Girls’ Weekend – you’ll have to thank The Berry for that idea!)

Shag It Ladies

Guests at our Newfoundland cafe and gift shop in Whiteway

We have lots of fun guests coming to the Shag It and I’ve enjoyed playing host (and sometimes waiter). I particularly enjoyed these women, Betty, Pam, Joan, Gladys and Vangie, from CBS. Gladys emailed us that “We loved everything there. What a place! We have been braging about it ever
since.”

That’s the kind of feedback we’re working so hard for, and we hope to have them back for a night at the cottages. Gladys is also an artist, so I told her next time she needs to bring her brush!

Shag It Boys

Shag It Boys

Here’s Lucas, Matthew, Brady and Ethan – thanks to Lisa for getting this great shot on what was clearly a great night. These guys were our first guests at the Shag It, and they remain our best customers. They’re awesome boys, and it’s always a treat when they come into the store. They have their own spot in Jack’s Corner, liking the day bed. We’ll miss them when school starts!

Red Hat Ladies at The Doctor’s House!

Guests at our Newfoundland spa resort

You know I like using this blog to share special stories from our guests – well, get ready to start seeing some guests from The Doctor’s House now, too! I don’t spend quite as much time there (I hold down the fort at Ocean Delight most days!), so Rosemary got this picture and told me about the wonderful ladies who make up the Red Had Edison Club. I’m told it was one of the friends’ birthdays, so they surprised her with a night at The Doctor’s House. They said it was important to spend time with your girlfriends because they are the ones who will always be there for you. Judging by the stories my daughters tell me, I think they’re right!

Cliff, Misty, and New Year’s Reflections

A big thanks to Shirley for this beautiful picture of Clifford and Misty. As 2012 is winding down, we reflect on all the things we are grateful for. I knew before we moved to the cottages that we were getting a great chance to start a new and fulfilling life. But I had no idea what that would look like. I am continually thrilled that it has meant making new friends like the George’s. Their compassion, their openness, their infectious love of Whiteway and art and animals and the Baccalieu inspire me and The Berry daily. So I hope all our friends – new and old – will enjoy a very Happy New Year.

And please remember! Today is the last day of our very first contest! The winner gets a free stay at the cottages, so please follow this link and enter. You never know – you might get one last holiday present this year! Good luck!
