Spring is Springing

Flowers at The Doctor's HouseHere’s proof that despite a long and dreary winter, Spring has arrived at The Doctor’s House – and summer can’t be far behind. Before you know it, we’ll be in full bloom, our English gardens bursting with colour and beauty. And if you’d like a reminder of just what that looks like, here you go:

Garden in Newfoundland

Your Sunday Bouquet

Flowers at The Doctor's House NewfoundlandThere’s nothing like a fresh bouquet of flowers on a gorgeous summer’s day – unless, of course, than a bursting garden in your own backyard. The Berry and I have always been amateur gardeners, but living surrounded as we are by all the greenery of The Doctor’s House has been a real blessing this year. Thank to Shirley George for taking the lovely photo and letting us share it with you. Not quite fresh, but still up-close-and-personal!

Green Sunday

garden at our Newfoundland innNo, but it’s not green! One of our favourite aspects of The Doctor’s House, and one that our guests all seem to love, too, are our lush gardens. It’s not hard on a Sunday like this to stop and smell the roses, when you’ve got hundreds of flowers to choose from! We hope you’re having a great weekend, and please stay tuned – Shirley George took the beautiful picture you see above, and we’ll be sharing more, soon.

Blooming Sunday

Flowers at our newfoundland resort inn and spaSunday’s the perfect day to stop and smell the roses, or any of the brightly coloured flowers here at The Doctor’s House! Since we’re in full bloom, we invited our good friend (and good photographer), Shirley George, to come take some photos. The results are stunning – you can see all her beautiful photos here. We hope you’re having a fabulous weekend, and please, take some time to smell whatever flowers you happen to have near!

Shag It – We’re Growing Our Own!

Garden at our Newfoundland cafe in Whiteway, near WhitbourneHere’s a photo taken by the lovely Cate Dore, who runs and cooks all our lovely meals at the lovely Shag It. This is the budding garden she is growing, full of fresh greens to use in her creations. It really is a ‘living’ salad when it was growing just minutes before being (lovingly) thrown in the bowl! Just a reminder that it’s Friday, and Friday means one thing here at Ocean Delight – time to chow down at the Shag It. Hope to see you – today, tomorrow, or Sunday!

Look Out, Butchart Gardens!

If you follow this blog, you know that we were recently in the lovely Butchart Gardens in Victoria, B.C. And we were blown away. But the Butchart Gardens needs to look out – we’re back in the Wonderful World of Whiteway, and our rock garden is on the agenda. We had the idea to beautify this drain pipe (and boy, did it need beautification!). And now it’s taken on a life of its own, on the way to becoming, in my opinion, quite the unique garden space.

We’re turning this ditch (below) into a work of art! And getting in lots of outdoor time (and exercise!) in the process. It’s been really fun – stay tuned for updates!
