Tuesdays with Murphy: In the Red Corner

Golden retrievers at our Newfoundland cottagesI love it when Friday gets to sleepover – I get to have a partner in crime. Of course, here, we look like we’re reading to start our boxing match, but no worries – we’d never fight! Really, it was just raining hard the last time we had to go outside. We got drenched in 30 seconds. Thankfully, we’ve got Laurelyn to dry us off, and lots of warm places to cuddle to warm up (another reason to love our Stay In and Stay Warm package).

Tuesday with Murphy: Friday Chills

Golden Retriever in NewfoundlandSo I know the two leggeds have had a lot to deal with lately, with all the storms, power outages, cancellations, you name it. And I know MY two leggeds have had lots of work to do on top of that (something about staff meetings, promotions, new Valentine’s Day at The Doctor’s House plans, who knows). But I don’t worry about the hustle. I like to take a page from my brother, Murphy’s book – just chill! Because he is one cool dog, and nothing’s going to convince him otherwise!

The Fridays

golden retriever in newfoundlandSince Joe Friday took Dog Friday under his wing a few months ago, they’ve become fast friends. With a dog as sweet as Friday, it would be impossible not to fall in love. Thanks to Chef Anna Dohey, who has prepared the menu for our gourmet New Year’s Eve feast, for the great shots. Tuesdays with Murphy: Hiking with Friday

Hiking with Golden Retrievers in NewfoundlandDays like we had this weekend, I like to count my four-legged blessings. Friday and I took Jerry and The Berry on a nice long hike in the freshly fallen snow and beautiful winter sunshine. Then we all relaxed with Christmas music and Christmas movies at our cottages in Long Point Cove. I can see why our BOGO offer is booking up quickly – what a wonderful way to create some special memories with your loved ones during the holiday season.

Thankfully, even since Friday’s been welcomed into the Ocean Delight family, our circle of loved ones continues to grow. It is so much fun to finally have another four-legged as we bound the trails! (And remember, if you’re interested in the BOGO yourself, you only have til tomorrow to make your reservation!).Hiking with golden retrievers in Newfoundland

Tuesdays with Murphy: New Brother!

Our new golden retriever at our newfoundland cottages

What a fun weekend this has been. The Berry did some more of her famous Kijiji work and found another golden retriever looking for a forever home. Lynn loved her golden, but needed to find him a new, good home. And I can certainly attest to one thing – Ocean Delight is a dog’s paradise. The new dog (and mini-me) is living with Joe, who has named him Friday (how fitting!).

We can tell he misses Lynn, but he’s settling in well. We’ve been on some great walks already. I was looking for an assistant for my duties in Guest Relations – I think Friday is going to do quite well! He’s Joe’s first dog, and I am sure they are going to be best friends. Molly, his cat, wasn’t too please at first, but he’s warming up to it.

So please join me in welcoming Friday to the family! And we can’t thank Lynn enough for trusting us with her beautiful pet. Welcoming a new golden retriever to our newfoundland cottage rentals

Tuesdays with Murphy: Murphy and the Lighthouse

Heart's Content Light House on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland

You don’t need to convince me to go on a day trip exploring something new. The Heart’s Content Lighthouse was built in 1901 and is a Recognized Federal Heritage Building. At only about a half hour’s drive from the cottages, it’s a great place to explore. For a full list of historic landmarks near us, please see here – or guests can simply ask us! And The Berry’s been working on some great fall packages that are worth checking out, too.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Me and Daniel

Golden Retriever and Baby at our Newfoundland cottage rentals

Some days are fun at Ocean Delight, and some days at out of this world. This young family came to the Shag It Cafe on what would have been the birthday of their own late, beloved Golden Retriever, Riley. I never got to meet Riley, but after spending time with them I know he must have been very loved! Of course my favourite part of the evening? Playtime with Daniel!Guests at the Shag It Cafe and Gift Shop in Whiteway

Tuesdays with Murphy – Let Me Kayak!

golden retriever and a kayaker on the beach in Newfoundland

Mike Crane has done lots over the past many months to help Jerry and The Berry with their many endeavors. And he likes to kayak after work – Whiteway is a great spot for it. I just don’t know why he won’t let me come along for the ride – I always comes down to the shore to try to beg one!

Tuesdays with Murphy: New Trails

Hiking Trails on the Avalon Peninsula in Newfoundland

You know me – always up for an adventure. That’s why I was thrilled when I was able to convince Jerry and The Berry to check out D’Iberville Trail on a fun day trip. It was an easy walk with great vistas – what more could a four-legged ask for? Any guests staying with us – please ask if you’d like some recommendations for similar things to do near the cottages, and please also see our Things to Do section.
