Around the World

chalk board Oh, the stories one could write if you could talk to all the visitors we have met over the last few years.  Here is a shot from our comment chalk board in the Shag It Cafe.  On this little block alone, you can see comments from people from Thailand, Bulgaria, and Ontario – and that’s just the start.

We’ve had guests now from every province, almost every state, every continent, and dozens of countries.  From the weird and wacky to nice and friendly – we’ve loved meeting them all and meeting their stories.

Word to the wise that we’re not on Fall hours for the Shag It – we’re now open Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. So please make a plan to come share your story on our message board this weekend!

Thanks, Tasha!

ocean delight cottages roomForgive me if I’m tooting our own horn a bit, but I had to share these beautiful photos and beautiful comments from the beautiful Tasha, who stayed with us this weekend. We’re thrilled when we meet ‘kindred spirit’ guests and of course are even more thrilled when they enjoy themselves as much as we want them to. Here’s what Tasha had to say about her time with us:

“Stayed here this weekend. I have to say the owners/co-workers were so wonderful. I loved the puppys (Murphy and Friday♥ ). We Will all be back, i can’t wait. The place is stunning and wonderful to wake up in and go out to smell the fresh ocean. Would love to recommend this to all my friends!”

As you can see, they stayed in the Cranberry honeymoon cottage, our A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty. We’re so happy they enjoyed themselves, and hope to see them back soon!

Distinguished Guests

General HillierWe love all our guests, both here at the cottages and at The Doctor’s House, too. I’m definitely what you’d call a ‘people person,’ and I try to have a chat with just about everybody who walks through our doors.

Most of these guests remain nameless on the blog – there’s just too many to feature everyday. But when someone noteworthy like the distinguished General Rick Hillier and his wife, Joyce, come along, of course we’re proud, honoured, and happy to share! Here’s Sam and Beverley with Rick at our check in. So thanks again to this lovely couple for staying with us, and for agreeing to this photo op!

Congrats to our Wedding Show Winners

Welcome to the Doctor's HouseIn preparation for our upcoming first wedding season at The Doctor’s House, we’ve been getting to know future brides and grooms at some local wedding shows – and having lots of fun doing it. We’ve been drawing for a Spa and Stay Package – meaning, after each show, one lucky winner receives a a free one-night stay with complimentary bottle of wine, plus breakfast for two and two Aveda spa services (this package is available to all guests who request it – check it out!).

Our recent lucky winners were Erica MacDonald, below (thanks, Erica, for the photo!), and Carly Morgan. We hope they enjoy their free stay with us as much as we enjoyed the Devotion Bridal Wedding Show and the Ultimate Bridal Show!Guests at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

First Corporate Retreat at The Doctor’s House

Corporate Event at The Doctor's House

We had our first corporate retreat at The Doctor’s House this weekend and were very happy with our results, thanks to our hard-working staff. The Military Family Resource Centre joined us, arriving yesterday morning to coffee and treats prepared by Chef Anna and her team. They enjoyed lunch in the Doctor’s Lounge, followed by a short tour and time spent with the ponies, Rosie and Eweness before heading back to listen to Guest Speakers. Dinner in front of the fireplace and spa services enjoyed by some participants completed the event.

One couple brought along their grandson, who commented to his grandmother that being here was just like being at a friends house – that may be our best testimonial to date!Anna's Desserts

Red Hat Ladies

Guests at our Newfoundland Inn and Spa

We recently had a dozen wonderful ladies join as for lunch and a tour at The Doctor’s House. They made up the Red Hat Society, fabulous women over 50. They are a lively and lovely bunch who just loved the place, the ponies and Rosie the Goat. She’s turning out to be a great ambassador for us – everyone loves her!

Thanks to the Red Hat Ladies, for making us a part of your day – we hope to see you back!Guests at our Newfoundland Inn and SpaGuests at our Newfoundland Inn and Spa

Red Hat Ladies at The Doctor’s House!

Guests at our Newfoundland spa resort

You know I like using this blog to share special stories from our guests – well, get ready to start seeing some guests from The Doctor’s House now, too! I don’t spend quite as much time there (I hold down the fort at Ocean Delight most days!), so Rosemary got this picture and told me about the wonderful ladies who make up the Red Had Edison Club. I’m told it was one of the friends’ birthdays, so they surprised her with a night at The Doctor’s House. They said it was important to spend time with your girlfriends because they are the ones who will always be there for you. Judging by the stories my daughters tell me, I think they’re right!

Ready for My Close Up

Usually I’m the one taking pictures of my guests – but yesterday I got some great shots from Jim and Judy, a couple we had out on the A Wake at Last about a month ago. They were very kind to pass them along, and now I’m passing them along to you!I especially like the shot they got of our Berry cottages – the ones in Whiteway. What great photographers!
