Just a reminder that we have several positions open at The Doctor’s House, which we hope to fill before we open again in the Spring. You can apply online, and we’re currently looking for Housekeeping staff (among others). We like to think we’re fun to work for, and know it’s fun to work as such a beautiful locale. Please take a look at our openings and see if you might fit into our team!
Last Weekend to Enjoy Dining at The Doctor’s House this Year!
Just a reminder – after this weekend, The Doctor’s House will be closing for the winter. And that means if you’ve been dreaming of award-winning Chef Chafe’s amazing Dining at The Doctor’s House, this is your last time to enjoy it this year! Find our complete menu here, and please email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com to make your reservation. Bon appetit!
Counting Down the Days
We’re getting close to Christmas, and that means there’s not much time left to take advantage of our gift certificates for The Doctor’s House. We’ve come up with some great packages to make gift-giving easier (or, if you like, you can always just give a certificate for a dollar amount, that your recipient can use however she likes). Our Whiteway Newfoundland cottages are staying open all winter, but next weekend will be our last at The Doctor’s House until the Spring – so make sure to come on down while you still can!
We’ve Got Places to Go!
It was a big thrill and an honour to have NTV come out to The Doctor’s House last week to film a spot for Places to Go with Sharon Snow. Didn’t Jerry do a good job showing off the grounds? Of course, it’s not hard to make them look beautiful, but we’re grateful to Sharon Snow and the whole crew for the great, professional experience, and for helping us get the word out. If you’re thinking about a visit or already have one planned, please see the video here – it gives a great sneak peak of what you can expect!
Things to Come
We’ve all said it a million times in a million ways this season – we’ve had a rough winter! But it’s May, it’s Friday, and at The Doctor’s House, some flowers are poking their heads up! These flowers are surely a sign of beautiful things to come. Set on over 100 acres of rambling fields, groomed walking trails and English gardens, we’re sure the foliage at The Doctor’s House will be stunning this year – we can’t wait til it all starts blooming!
More Renos
We never would have guessed how much could go on ‘behind-the-scenes’ at a resort like The Doctor’s House until we were running one ourselves! We’ve already blogged about our renovations to the ‘Big Barn,’ building a fun and big new space for the upcoming wedding season. Less obviously, since we’re still managing to ‘wow’ with our hot breakfasts and gourmet weekend meals, we’ve also been re-doing our kitchen, too. The original was functional but not big enough, so a re-vamp was necessary, and our modifications are coming along nicely. We have some fun things planned for our restaurant this summer, so please stay tuned!
Easter Brunch Menu Set!
We’re happy to announce that our brilliant Chef Anna Dohey has come up with menu for our Easter Brunch at The Doctor’s House. Think Peach Mimosas, Spinach Salad, Quiche, Fresh Cake with Berries, and more. You can find the whole menu and more details here. And remember, the Easter Bunny will leave some treats in your room at The Doctor’s House if you arrive Easter weekend. Don’t wait to make your reservation!
Good Neighbours
Since beginning our tourism journey with Ocean Delight Cottages a few years ago, we haven’t been able to stop raving about what we’ve dubbed the Wonderful World of Whiteway, not just for its physical beauty, but more for the warm, giving, funny and talented people we’ve met here. Now, The Doctor’s House is only a five minute drive from the cottages, but it’s in neighbouring town of Green’s Harbour. Since our new neighbours are equally fabulous, we’re going to come up with a new name … I’m not sure if ‘Great Green’s Harbour’ has the same ring?
Regardless, these gorgeous photos come to us from neighbour Paul Seymour, who reached out to us on our Facebook page to see if we’d want these beautiful shots. To which, of course, our answer was, yes! We know The Doctor’s House provides lots of photo ops, and we love when guests – and friends and neighbours! – share their beautiful pictures.
Summer Memories
Here is a great picture recently sent to me by Paul Davis, Minister of Child, Youth and Family services and a good friend of mine. He took it when he, his wife Cheryl and special friends came out to The Doctor’s House to celebrate his clean bill of health and victory over cancer.
Paul is a singular human being who has done a lot for individuals and the public at large. He is an important part of the Newfoundland mosaic, and it is our honour to count him a friend and to have welcomed him to our Inn.
This picture certainly reminds us of the warmth of the summer sun. Thankfully, winter is better when we’re cozy, and when Christmas is coming. We’re so excited for Christmas at The Doctor’s House this year (all of The Berry’s family is coming) and for the fun New Year’s Eve we’re starting to plan. It’ll be here before you know it.
Weddings at The Doctor’s House
We had a a terrific time yesterday manning a booth at our first every Devotion Wedding Show in downtown St. John’s. The Berry has been working hard to put together some wedding packages for The Doctor’s House, and we welcomed the opportunity to showcase our beautiful inn and spa, which we both know will make for truly stunning and special occasions. We have a few weddings booked already, and we’ll be looking forward to them.
And after all, the Baccalieu Trail is meant for lovers, what with names like Cupids, Heart’s Content, Heart’s Delight, and Heart’s Desire. And given its beauty and proximity to St. Jonn’s, we think the Trail, and The Doctor’s House, both are a natural choice for wedding destination. As always, if you’d like to hear more about our wedding packages or any other questions related to The Doctor’s House, please email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com. And, here’s to love and marriage!
