Desk Mate

cat at our innOne of the perks of working at The Doctor’s House is that you’ve got lots of furry coworkers! Sam snapped this pic of Halloween, clearly on a break and exhausted from all the desk work!

Halloween is one of our barn cats, only a few months old, and clearly growing quite quickly. He’s still a big baby at heart, though, always looking for attention – even if he needs to lie on a few papers to get it!

A Little Shag Rock for Your Saturday

Cat and Shag RockA little Saturday cat blogging, with a view! Here’s Mimi, enjoying our back deck (um, you’re looking the wrong way, Mimi!). And yes, as you can see, we mean it when we say we’re right on the ocean! If you’re new to the blog, you’ll quickly find that I blog about Shag Rock a lot – but really, how could I not?

Do You Think She Knew?

Kitten in NewfoundlandHere’s little 6 month old Monkey. And little 6 month old kittens need to be ‘fixed’ before they can play outside. So last week, it was little Monkey’s turn. These pictures are pre-op – and judging by her demeanor that morning, I’d swear that she knew something was up.

Surgery’s not fun for animals (or anyone for that matter), but it was time. She used to sit by the window and watch Mimi and Shadow frolic in the great outdoors, and look over at me with a face that asked, “What about me?  I want to go outside and play, too.”  And she’s look longingly at Murphy and Friday running around and ask “Why not me, too?”

So, surgery is the price of her freedom, and we’re happy to report that everything went swimmingly. Soon, Monkey will be our exploring the Wonderful World of Whiteway just like the rest of us!

Rupert Leaves Home

Newfoundland kittenFor a Saturday treat, here’s little Rupert,  a Green’s Harbour native living in BC with my daughter, Kathryn.  She met him on her trip home this Christmas, and the rest, as they say, is history. He’s about six months old and thriving. Like many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, he is prospering away – but just the same he’ll probably never forget his roots on the rock!

It’s a Cat’s Life

cat at our cottagesWe’ve had lots of wind lately, and that only seems to make the cats feel even cozier. The Berry, the dogs, the cats and I all enjoyed watching the storm, especially Shadow, who had to be front and centre. Quite the view, isn’t it?

Our Growing Menagerie – Wecome Mimi and Shadow!

New cats at our ocean front cottage rentalsWe have two sweet little additions to our menagerie – please welcome MiMi and Shadow (or as we refer to them, ‘Me Me and My Shadow’).  We took these semi-wild kittens in from a neighbour who didn’t have space – and they’re slowly getting used to being around people and, in our case, our big, giant Golden Retrievers, Murphy and Friday. They’re playful and cuddly (although we’re more convinced of the latter than they are yet!), young and adapting to their new home, and quickly becoming beloved members of the Ocean Delight family. Shadow even jumped up to join in a nap the other day – hopefully a ‘shadow’ of things to come.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Poor Molly

Devon Rex in NewfoundlandJoe sent us this picture of sweet Molly, his Devon Rex, recouping after a night in the hospital. She was having a bit of a rough time with what the two leggeds think were digestive problems. Thankfully, she has a new diet, and more than her fair share of love from Joe and Friday to get her better. We’re happy to report she’s on the mend!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Sleeping with the Enemy

I have no idea why, but Joe Friday somehow grew wings and is flying to Halifax for a vacation. Who needs a vacation from paradise??? Anyway, while he’s gone, his little devon rex cat, Molly, will be our houseguest.

I was a little nervous about seeing Miss Molly – I met her when I first came to Ocean Delight, and she didn’t seem to like me much. I guess to something her size I seem big and scary – when Jerry and The Berry brought her home she snarled, growled, and hissed like a demon fresh out of hell. Thankfully, to know me is to love me, and my nonchalant demeanor won her over – as you can see, we’ve even taken a few close naps together. I’m a lover, not a fighter!

I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship!

And speaking of another beautiful friendship, I love Jerry and I love his blog. If you do, too, this week is your last chance to vote for him for a TopBlog award. It’s easy to vote, no registration necessary – simply head over to this link and find his category on the bottom left, called Best Professional or Business Life Blog. I’d vote, but I think it’s only open to human citizens!

Molly Monday

I hope that everyone is enjoying the long weekend. I am, but boy are we busy (are you getting sick of me saying that yet? Can’t help it – it’s true!). So today’s post is a quick one, of Molly, our (mostly) sweet Devon Rex. She enjoys our oceanfront view of Shag Rock, too! Don’t you wish you knew what she was thinking – what does an animal see when it sees the ocean??
