Two Trees

Two trees on the waters edge at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsSaturday on the blog we try to showcase the natural beauty of Newfoundland. Of course, there’s poetry all around us in this beautiful province. Here’s two trees as seen from our back patio, standing alone on the snowy water’s edge – with the sun out it’s a perfect winter wonderland. Have a great weekend.

Happy Friday

Our Newfoundland cottage rentalsA short post after a long week. We’ve got lots on our ‘to-do’ list, but also lots to be thankful for. Like, freshly fallen snow, and a sweet dog to roam in it. I hope you’re all preparing for a fun weekend. We’ll be serving dinner at The Doctor’s House, so that’s always a plus. And our Stay In and Stay Warm special is still going strong. Anyway, happy Friday!

Sunset Sunday: The Doctor’s House

Sun Setting at our Newfoundland Resort and InnOften Sundays I share pictures of the sun setting over beautiful Shag Rock. Thanks to Joe, today I can share one of the sun setting over the beautiful Doctor’s House. Of course, the tourism industry picks up dramatically in the summer, but we stay open all winter, offering a unique opportunity for warmth and romance (don’t forget, we have a Valentine’s Special coming up, plus spa specials all winter long). In our experience, people need to get away and take time for themselves all year round. I hope you’re taking time for yourself today.

Budding Saturday: My Turn

Woods and Trees at our Newfoundland resort and innOK, no doubt I’m not up to the standards set by Newfoundland photographer Bud Vincent, whose work I often showcase on the blog, but for our Saturday island photography post, here’s some shots I took at The Doctor’s House over the Christmas holiday. Of course, we had much more snow then. It inspired the photographer in me!

Remember, we love featuring your Newfoundland photography on the blog, and we love it when guests share their shots of our cottages and The Doctor’s House. So if you have some great ones to share, please don’t be shy!Forest at our Newfoundland inn and resort

Shag Rock Sunday

Shag Rock in NewfoundlandIt’s the first weekend of the New Year, and Shag Rock stands as proud as ever. I know many people will be heading back to work tomorrow after a long break – I hope your holiday was fantastic. I also hope that 2014 will be a great year for us all. And I hope to never lose sight of this beauty, which has brought me so much solace and contemplation these past years since moving to the Wonderful World of Whiteway.

Budding Saturday: Love Birds

Wild Birds in NewfoundlandOK, so I’m not sure if these are actually love birds, or what else they might be. But at least they’re a pair, sticking out the harsh weather together. Quite symbolic! Thanks to Bud Vincent, a brilliant Newfoundland photographer, for sharing – we share lots of his work on this blog, because he does such a fantastic job showcasing this beautiful province of ours.

And if you’d like to warm up with your own lovebird this winter, remember that we’ve extended our Spa and Stay Packages at The Doctor’s House, and we’re also offering a winter special: from January to March, book one night, and get the second for only $99.

Sunset Sunday: Before and After

Shag Rock in rural Newfoundland

These pictures are like life: all the same, all different, all wonderful, and totally beautiful. Shag Rock, before, during and after a sunset – reminding us why we love the Wonderful World of Whiteway.

Thanks to guests, Shag It artist and friend Leonard Howlett for the gorgeous shots. What an eye, or should I say three?

Pretty Ponies

Newfoundland ponies at a Newfoundland resortThere is one thing for certain – The Doctor’s House, an animal sanctuary, has some beautiful residents. I never thought I’d be responsible for ponies, but then again, I never thought I’d be doing so much that we do out here in our new lives as Innkeepers and Restauranteurs. I wouldn’t trade it – or them – for anything.

Thanks to our genius chef, Anna Dohey, for capturing such great photos and passing them along. You can see more on our Facebook page. Anna is also behind our New Year’s Eve menu, which we’re excited about. Clearly she is a woman of many talents!
