We’re partial to our views in Whiteway and Green’s Harbour, but if you live anywhere in Newfoundland or have visited, you know what we’re talking about. Maybe our weather isn’t always the greatest, maybe the skies not always the sunniest, but in all my world travels, I’ve never seen sunsets, with all the the illuminescent colours, like what we get here. Even artists have never fully captured the beauty, because they’re beyond picture-perfect. We’re truly blessed!
Happy Seniors’ Day at the Shag It!
Just a friendly reminder that today is Seniors’ Day at the Shag It. Every Friday and Sunday for the rest of the summer, we’re offering a 10% discount to seniors. We hope to have lots of customers enjoying the view today! And just as many enjoying the Trinity Bay Cod Chowder. Thanks for Stephen and Kayla for the great shot. One word sums it up: yum!

Thanks are in order to Shag It Cafe Executive Chef Cate Dore for sharing all her beautiful photos of our Whiteway view on our Facebook page. An Ontarian, clearly she is enchanted by our Newfoundland sunsets as much as we are – please follow us on Facebook to see more of her shots.
But of course, bigger thanks are in order for all the hard work she puts into the Shag It – it’s been paying off and then some. Her fresh salads are a hit – as is the rest of her ‘real food’ menu. We’re now open Thursday through Monday, with a Senior’s Discount of 10% Fridays and Mondays, so we know she’s working hard. Since we’re new to the restaurant business, we feel truly blessed to have such experienced hands in the kitchen!
Dining at The Doctor’s House Now Even Better
We didn’t think he could top himself, but our Executive Chef Chris Chafe, a culinary wunderkind according to travel writer Janice Nieder, has dreamt up a new summer menu …. and it’s divine. From Pink Peppercorn Dusted Local Sea Scallops to Sesame Seared Duck Breast to Rhubarb Frozen Yogurt with Meringue, Coulis and Macerated Strawberries, nearly everything is lovingly handmade by Chris – and lovingly devoured shortly thereafter. We’re happy to announce that we’re now open to the public (by reservation only) – so you don’t need to be a guest at the Inn to enjoy these creations. And we’ve got new, extended summer hours. Please join us from Thursday to Sunday, by calling 709-582-2754 to make your reservation. And please stay tuned – we’ll opening our fully licensed stone patio soon!

Summer Hours at the Shag It, plus new Senior Discount!
As everyone recovers from what we hope was a fantastic Canada Day, we have some fun news. Starting this Thursday, we’ll be moving to new Summer Hours at the Shag it. We’ll now be open Thursday through Monday, from 11-7pm. Executive Chef and Backyard-Gardener Extraordinaire Cate Dore has tweaked our fabulous, fresh menu, and, we’re happy to announce that Fridays and Mondays we’ll also be offering a 10% Seniors’ Discount. Delicious food made from scratch, fabulous views and 10% off – who can resist that??

Beautiful sunsets here in Green’s Harbour. Beautiful sunsets here on the Baccalieu Trail. Beautiful sunsets here in Newfoundland. The Berry and I try to take a deep breath and experience each one from our balcony – it gives us the energy we need for the next day. Enjoy.
Shag It Reviews (Again)
Maybe we’ve been waxing poetic too much lately about the Shag It, but we have been thrilled this year with the wonderful work Cate is doing, both in running and managing our cafe, and in creating really delicious, really fresh and fun food. Thankfully, our guests like to wax poetic, too. Here’s our guest board again – we’re so happy that they’ve been happy. Our favourite compliment? “Real food.” Hear, hear.
Shag It – We’re Growing Our Own!
Here’s a photo taken by the lovely Cate Dore, who runs and cooks all our lovely meals at the lovely Shag It. This is the budding garden she is growing, full of fresh greens to use in her creations. It really is a ‘living’ salad when it was growing just minutes before being (lovingly) thrown in the bowl!
