Spring Has Sprung

Tulips at The Doctor's HouseWe’ve had some beautiful days here lately – sunny, warm but not too warm, no wind. We’ve been treated to beautiful sunsets, flowers bursting forth, birds and bees getting busy with their spring cleaning. Perry was right – it is gorgeous out here this time of year.Flowers at The Doctor's House in NewfoundlandWe’re looking forward to a fun, busy weekend. The Shag It will be open Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-7pm. We hope to see you out on the patio, enjoying Spring with us!

Miss the Spring Hare?

Organizers of the Whiteway Spring Hare, a cultural event in rural NewfoundlandIf you’re like Jerry, maybe you had to miss this year’s Spring Hare. This fun cultural weekend celebrates all that’s local and fabulous – and very artistic! – about the Wonderful World of Whiteway. If you’d like to see how it went, please read this great recap in the Evening Telegram by our friend Shirley George, one of the organizers. A lot of work went into the weekend, as you can see, and it was certainly worth it, like always.

First Proposal at The Doctor’s House

Newfoundland couple gets engaged at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe’ve had some proposals at Ocean Delight, but this was long weekend was extra special as we helped pull off the first proposal at The Doctor’s House. We’ll be having lots of weddings here, so it only makes sense to start the journey here, too!

Bradley proposed to Lisa on the deck of the Limonene Room on this sunny Saturday afternoon, and she said yes!  Our staff, Rosemary, Heather and Jessica, decorated the room and the deck while they were having spa treatments – it was a real surprise for Lisa, and the girls did a fantastic job.

We’re so happy to have helped this lovely couple, and we’re wishing them more than all the best. Thanks, Bradley and Lisa, for sharing your special day with us! Great Opening

View from our Newfoundland cafeWe had a great first weekend at the Shag It, officially kicking off our Summer 2014 season. The weather cooperated, and look at this view from our patio (!). Our new chef, Cate Dore, developed and presented a beautiful new menu that was a big hit. The Berry and I had some ourselves and were blown away. Thanks to Cate, and thanks to all the guests who came out and made our first weekend a success. View from our Newfoundland cafeThe Shag It is open today for the the Victoria day holiday. Our regular hours are Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 11-7pm. We hope to see you soon!

Moonrise Sunday: Woody Point

Sunset in NewfoundlandThe Berry and I enjoyed a small road trip last week, finding ourselves in lovely Woody Point in the lovely Gros Morne, in the lovely Seaside Suites. We came here many moons ago and were inspired to begin our hospitality journey. Now, after a few days relaxation, we’re inspired for another busy – but great – summer season. This shot is blurry, and doesn’t capture the majesty, but serves to remind us of our beautiful nights. Like always, we’ll keep the magic of this moonrise in our hearts.

Come on Down

View at our cafe in rural NewfoundlandWe’ve been looking forward to this weekend for a long time, and not just because of the holiday. We’re really excited to be opening the Shag It Cafe this weekend! We’ve got a new menu and a new chef, the fabulous Cate Dorr. But still the same stunning view to enjoy from our wrap-around patio. We hope to see lots of new and familiar faces this Saturday and Sunday from 11-7. See you soon!

Last Minute Long Weekend Plans?

Enjoying wine at our ocean front Newfoundland luxury resort inn and spaWould you like a little wine with your view? Just taking a minute to remind you that there’s only a few weeks left of our May specials both here and at The Doctor’s House – that means only a few more weeks to take advantage of deals like spa packages, a relaxing Girls’ Weekend, a second night at our luxury inn, or free wine and more when you arrive at the cottages. We’ve got a few spots left for the weekend, so don’t wait to make a reservation. And keep a look-out for icebergs on your beautiful drive to get here!

The Icebergs are Coming!

Ice berg in front of our ocean front cottage rentals in NewfoundlandIceberg season is in full swing! Thanks to our friend and neighbour Albert Legge for this beautiful photo, taken in front of our ocean front cottages in Heart’s Delight. We love being right on the water – the view is always amazing. And the only thing that can make the view better? Icebergs, of course!

Mother’s Day Luncheon a Success

Guests at our Ocean front Newfoundland cafeThanks to all the lovely mothers and families who came to our Mother’s Day Luncheon and spent the afternoon with us. It was our new Executive Chef Chris Chafe’s first big function, and, judging by the reception, he pulled off his beautiful menu swimmingly!

We hosted our lunch at our Shag It Cafe, which will be opening for full traffic this weekend (!!!). Chris was helped by Chef Cate Dorr, who will actually be running the Shag It this summer, too – stay tuned, as we’ll be revealing her new menu soon. And our helpers Holly and Marina were great, too.

All in all, it was a great day, and we loved helping these families celebrate this special holiday. Above are a mother with her four daughters, who joined us from The Goulds, and below, four neighbours out to celebrate. It was our treat to serve them all!Guests at our Newfoundland resort inn and spa

Happy Mother’s Day

Celebrating Mother's Day at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsHappy Mother’s Day to all the wonderful moms out there. We have some celebrating with us at Ocean Delight, and at our The Doctor’s House luncheon – and we’re more than happy to make their weekend getaways all that they deserve.

Of course, with The Berry, we have our own wonderful mother to spoil, too. And given all she does around here (trust us, it’s lots!), and all she does for so many – including her new granddaughter, and our menagerie of animals here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway – she really deserves it. Thankfully, we live at the ocean’s edge, which makes celebrating easy!
