2014 Reflections: Welcome The Cranberry!

We’ve been blogging about our favourite memories from 2014, and of course who could forget the big splash of introducing The Cranberry, our new honeymoon cottage. We have all these beautiful weddings at The Doctor’s House, we just had to make sure our newly married couples had their own retreat, now, didn’t we??

An A-frame, two-story and two-bedroom beauty, The Cranberry is a culmination of a lot (and a lot and a lot) of hard work, and offers that extra ‘something’ to our guests looking to enhance their journey to the ocean’s edge. This luxury cottage boasts 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms including one large master suite on the second floor overlooking the ocean. It also has fully equipped eat-in kitchen, a 2-person soaker tub, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, barbecue, fire pit, and views of Shag Rock and stunning sunsets that will blow you away (all of our cottages have those last few, of course!).

Christmas Eve Wishes

Wonderful Winter Wonderland of Whiteway

Ahhhh. I never thought it was possible, but Whiteway has actually made me love winter. I’ve always hated all the nasty bits – the shoveling, the bad roads, the shoveling, the cold, the shoveling, the shoveling, the shoveling. But I never opened my eyes to all the beauty that it brings, too. This picture is from last year, but I’m expecting equally brilliant vistas this year.

We’re keeping our Whiteway cottages open all winter long (including The Cranberry!), because we know there’s lot of winter-lovers out there. We’ve got snowshowing and skidooing trails, and fire pits, too – and we provide the wood! And both of our Winter Specials welcome you with hot chocolate, tea and coffee and lots of goodies to make your stay even cozier – please check them out!

Shag Rock Sunday: View from the Cranberry

Cozy New Winter Specials for our Whiteway Cottages

Winter is tough in Newfoundland – all the more reason to indulge in a getaway now and then! Since we’re just an hour outside St. John’s, we’ve always loved having winter guests at the cottages, which is why we’re keeping our Whiteway cottages all winter long. Room with a Snowy View

Take a closer look and you can see Muphy’s long tail in this photo! Here’s the view from The Doctor’s House – equally pretty in winter as summer! We’re back to living at our Ocean Delight location, and we’ve got some stunning views there, too. It is awesome to live by the water. On windy days, you can hear the wind and see the waves as if you were on the deck of a cruise ship. No rolling or heaving of the ship, just the wonder of nature close up and personal. It’s a treat, to be sure!

Coming Soon: A New and Improved Cranberry!

We’ve been blogging so much about the construction projects to get The Doctor’s House ready for our first wedding season that we’ve been remiss about another fun project taking place right here at the cottages. Every newly-wed couple needs a newly-wed retreat, right? So we’ve been turning the Cranberry into a two story honeymoon suite, complete with hot tub, fireplace and, of course, that Ocean Delight, ocean-front view. It’s been a lot of work, but we think it’ll be worth it. And it’s almost finished!

Shag Rock’s Many Faces

We never get tired of this view off our back deck (off our cottages’ back decks, too). Shag Rock is constant, yet the powerful Atlantic, and Newfoundland’s stunning sunsets, means the view is always changing. There’s definitely a metaphor for life there. Such a blessing to have lots to contemplate, a stellar view, good coffee and good company on a Sunday morning. God bless.

The Cranberry Reimagined

When we say we have lots on the go, we mean it! Lately we’ve been working on the Cranberry, a cottage at our Whiteway location, and the construction is coming along swimmingly. The men started by taking off the roof to begin major renovation as we turn the Cranberry into our ‘honeymoon’ cottage. It will have a second floor, with an A0frame pointing out the bay. The second floor will be an all glass front with a tub looking out the bay. We’ll have skylights to capture the storms and a fire place to give you the warmth.

So, it might not look the prettiest yet, but trust us – it’ll be worth it!

Spring Specials

A little birdie told us – after all this weather, we’re in for a great spring. At least it will be if you come join us at the cottages! That’s why we’re excited to roll out our Spring Specials. All April and May, stay at any of our cottages and receive a complementary snack and movie basket and bottle of house wine. Or, take advantage our nearby sister property The Doctor’s House and add some luxurious spa packages to you stay. After this winter, you deserve it!
