Happy Sunday

Shag RockNice little view we get from our Whiteway cottages – we never get sick of it. Our Couple’s Fall Getaway for here has been quite popular, and it’s expiring soon. If you’d like to take advantage while you still can, please see here, and otherwise, have a great Sunday!

Budding Saturday: Newfoundland’s Beloved

Newfoundland puffinsHere’s another beautiful photo that Newfoundland photographer (and friend) Bud Vincent sent us – this one of of Newfoundland and Labrador’s beloved puffin. These little guys really are sweet – if you come to Newfoundland, you must take a whale watch, if only because you’ll also be treated to seeing puffins in their natural habitat, too. They’re really something to see, and we’re grateful to Bud for sharing!

Dog Heaven

Two goldern retrievers at our newfoundland cottage rentalsWhenever we get a moment, we try to enjoy what our guests enjoy. Like walking along the ocean’s edge. We know that Friday and Murphy certainly enjoy it, too! It really is a dog’s heaven out here, and we’ve got to strong and healthy boys to prove it. Remember that pets are welcome at our cabins for a small fee, and our Couple’s Fall Getaway Package is still on. Maybe Murphy and Friday will getting some company soon!

Warm Welcome

Our Home in NewfoundlandAfter a long day in the city recently, this is the view that welcomed us when we got home. Just before dark, with the wild waves lashing the stand outside, ‘home’ has never seemed so cozy, so inviting. It was a count-your-blessings kind of moment, and a grab-your-camera-for-the-blog type of one, too. Shortly thereafter, we had a fire in the store, supper on the stove, and wine in our glasses, ready to enjoy a peaceful evening. You gotta love the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

Bud Returns!

Newfoundland PhotographyWe love Newfoundland around here, of course, and any photographer that can showcase it well. And we’ve found very few that can do it the justice like Bud (Ed) Vincent. We’ve showcased dozens of his photos here on the blog, but none for awhile. So we’re happy today to share this one, taken a few years ago, in Shoal Harbour (in Clarenville). Like Bud says, you don’t see many boats like these around these days, but it’s always a treat when you do – whether in real life, or captured digitally!

All at Drover’s

Eagle in whiteway newfoundlandHere was a visitor on a recent trip to Drover’s, our local (and awesome) convenience and grocery store. There he was watching us carry our wares back to our car, silent and majestic. We couldn’t take our eyes off him. And we’re pretty sure he was sizing us up, too!

A Birthday Celebration

Guests at our Newfoundland resortGuests celebrating their birthday at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe love it when guests share their special occasions with us – big ones, like weddings, of course, but also anniversaries, birthdays, proposals, and reunions are all heightened with a beautiful getaway. So a big Happy Birthday goes out to Charlene, a lovely guest who recently celebrated with us. We’re thrilled that she had a great birthday, and hope she comes back to see us soon!

And while it makes us blush, we had to share her glowing message, sent to us on Facebook. We know we have fabulous staff, and we’d like to pass on a thanks to them, too, for all they do for our guests. And thanks, Charlene, for the very kind words!

Happy Birthday!

Newfoundland fire departmentA hearty Happy Birthday and a hearty thanks, too, to the Heart’s Delight -Islington Volunteer Fire Department, which just celebrated 40 years of service. These brave souls are invaluable to our community, and the very picture of service. Their gift from the province was a big new truck. Sure to be well received, and remember – fire detectors save lives, so go check yours right now!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Last Hurrahs

Golden retriever at our Newfoundland cottage rentals I haven’t blogged in awhile, but I’m happy to take over the computer once again, to talk about a my favourite thing – swimming in the Atlantic. Yes, this photo was taken pre-Gonzalo – but still last week. I’m enjoying (and prolonging) my ocean dips as long as possible this season. Given my breed, my coat, and my enthusiasm, I still don’t mind dipping into the chilly waters – in fact, I insist! I just need a few Jerry and The Berry Cuddles when I get home! And please remember that pets are welcome at Ocean Delight, so all are welcome to join me and Friday. We love company!Dog swimming in the atlantic ocean

Apres Le Storm

Shag Rock after a big stormThanks to Gonzalo we had a very wet weekend – but a very nice one, too. We had a wedding with a beautiful couple that went well despite the weather, and I had some nice quiet, contemplative moments, drinking some coffee, listening to the rain, and relaxing. I do love rain – it cleanses the soul.  A good rain is almost like a good cry. And thanks to Gonzalo, we had a great ‘cry’ this weekend!
