Soggy and Wonderful

The Doctor'shouseWhat a weekend! We had a great Thanksgiving, and many happy guests. This picture was taken on a soggy Sunday with a malfunctioning  camera and only allow a glimpse of the wonder of nature surrounding this piece of heaven.  Makes me wish w I had a magic camera or the words to truly capture the beauty of this place!

We’ve been overwhelmed – in a good way! – with the number of guests taking advantage of our Date Night to Remember. It’s a special package at The Doctor’s House, good through November, that features dinner from our fabulous chef and hot breakfast, too. This Autumn is proving a great time to rekindle romance, and we’ve been only too happy to help in that department!

Happy Thanksgiving

Thankful at The Doctor's HouseWe have so much to be thankful for. This has been a busy weekend for us – but that’s just another blessing to add to the list. We hope that you’re able this weekend to take time to take time – enjoy your family, enjoy your good fortune, enjoy this beautiful province we call home. We truly are lucky. And thanks to our neighbour Paul for the lovely photo!

Fall Rainbow

Tree at The Doctor's House It’s been windy here lately, but the leaves are holding tight. We’re enjoying the fall rainbow, with deep beautiful colours ranging from burgundy to red to gold to yellow to green.  It’s a time of celebration – and not only because today is Laurelyn’s birthday. We have a fun evening planned, of course, and will surely make time to enjoy a quiet sunset, too. We love this magical place.

Fall Colours

fall at the doctor's houseThe fall rainbow is on.  The colours are radiant here in Newfoundland, like nowhere else I have ever seen.  They’re not just colourful – they’re fluorescent and iridescent – it is marvelous  here this time of year.  We just try to hang on as long as we can, dreading the coming of winter but loving its harbinger.

Autumn Love

Fall bushes at the doctor's houseSummer gets all the glory, and certainly there’s nothing like our lush, green gardens all a-bloom. But there’s nothing like the deep fall colours springing to life either. And we’ve just extended our Ladies Retreat Weekend Special through November – meaning, if you’re looking for a restorative getaway this Fall, this is where you want to be.

A Walk to Hopeall Falls

Walking to Hopeall FallsWalking to Hopeall FallsWe recently went for a walk to the wonderful Hopeall Falls, just minutes from here.  The trail is a part of Crout’s Way – the same one John Guy used to travel from Cupids when trading with the Beothucks. According to Gerald Smith, who helped rebuild it, it’s the oldest documented trail in North America – and it ends right in front of The Doctor’s House. It’s special ground, and beautiful, too – and something The Berry and I (not to mention Murphy and Friday!) enjoy whenever we get the chance.

Apples, Anyone?

apples at our newfoundland resort inn and spaTo say we have lots of apples at The Doctor’s House is an understatement! Fall is proving to be quite lovely here, just as lush and vibrant as the summer. Only now, with more fruits! We’re happy that people have been taking advantage of our Autumn Specials – who says the only time to travel in Newfoundland is the summer?

Like Old Friends

Beautiful day around the bay in NewfoundlandBig thanks to the lovely Lynn Elmhirst for sharing this lovely photo of pony-feeding-time at The Doctor’s House on Twitter. Lynn is a travel TV producer , whose many credits include MSN Travel (you might remember that MSN Travel recently named The Doctor’s House one of the top-ten seaside resorts in Canada). So we were excited when she and her friend, Karen Sealy, the equally accomplished interior designer and on-air personality for Cityline and HGTV, paid us a visit last week.

The only thing more impressive than the list of credits for these women was their openness and sense of adventure. Jerry loved showing them all the lovely features of The Doctor’s House, including, as you can see, a visit to our animal sanctuary. We know they enjoyed Dining at The Doctor’s House with Chris Chafe, too.

Jerry’s favourite part, though, was sharing a lovely breakfast before beginning their morning together. He said it was like talking to old friends, and he thoroughly enjoyed it. We’re so happy that these wonderful women included us on their trip to Newfoundland, and wish them well on their journey!
