SunRISE Sunday

Outside at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsOf course I love sharing gorgeous sunset shots – there’s something so soothing about watching the sun set over the ocean! But lets not forget how peaceful and magical it is at dawn, when the sun just peeks out and begins to warm the earth (however weakly these days). I’m not an artist of a photographer, but I know there’s something special about the early morning light. I always say – there’s beauty everywhere and every day in the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

The Man Behind the Camera – Bud Vincent!

Newfoundland artist and photographerIf you read my blog, you know what I think about Bud Vincent, as a man (extraordinary) and an artist (also, extraordinary). He’s a stunning photographer and shares some of his beautiful shots with us to use here – in fact, Saturday’s I often feature his work. So today, here’s the man behind the camera. Bud was also at the Hospitality NL conference this past few days. Thanks, Bud, for sharing with us and adding a little character to this humble blog!

Hospitality Conference

Wooden Boat Museum Hospitality NL Conference in GanderWe’re busy and loving it in Gander now, at Hospitality NL’s Annual Conference and Trade Show. With 375 delegates from 150 different companies and more than 40 exhibitors, there’s lots to see and do! We’ve learned so much about the tourism industry since we started a few years ago, and we’re only happy to learn more. And that learning is extra-fun when Alan Doyle is the Keynote Speaker – he did a great job, like you’d expect!Alan Doyle gives a keynote address at a hosptitality conference in NLWooden Boat MuseumOf course, you know we love the Wooden Boat Museum and the Legendary Coasts of Eastern Newfoundland!

Progress on the Big Barn

Building a barn extension for our upscale Newfoundland wedding localAs we’re looking forward to our first wedding season and working hard to get The Doctor’s House ready for big parties, we’ve decided to keep our future brides updated of our progress through this blog. As you can see, our barn renovations are in full swing, with the extensions going up now. We’ve also installed a new floor upstairs in The Doctor’s Loft (you can see all of our wedding facilities here), and inside the barn is ready to add a kitchen.  So far we’ve hit our first milestones, and we’re on schedule and on budget. We know lots of happy couples will be ‘I do-ing’ in no time!

And speaking of weddings, if you or your friends have your own coming up, we hope you’ll us this Sunday at the Devotion Wedding Show. We’ll be doing a draw to win a one night stay in our honeymoon suite plus spa services, so don’t miss our booth!

Musicians at The Doctor’s House

Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaOur friend Greg Locke is the official photographer for the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, and when he was looking for beautiful locations for some recent editorial shoots, we knew just the spot! Really, we were all too happy to offer The Doctor’s House, knowing we’d be supporting the arts and getting some stunning photography, too.

These musicians are all professional musicians with the NSO and Master’s students at Memorial University. They quartet is called Strataphoria. They enjoyed their day shooting and playing at our Inn, and we’ve been enjoying the results. Please see our Facebook page for more photos. Tuesdays with Murphy: Life Lesson

Golden retriever and devon rex cat at our newfoundland cottage rentalsHere’s a life lesson about persistence, patience, forgiveness and love. You may remember that when Molly, our Devon Rex four-legged, joined our Ocean Delight family, I was actually frightened of her, despite our size difference. She came to us fearful, with some sadness in her past, and she did not take to me one bit – in fact, she did quite the opposite, often scratching and biting without justification. But I never gave up hope of a relationship, and I never responded with anything but grace and kindness. And now – this photo says it all. We’ve become cuddle buddies, keeping each other warm in this cold winter. I feel truly blessed!

Thanks for Sharing!

Screen shot of blog about our newfoundland cottagesHere’s a fun blog post for us. Instead of tooting our own horn (as usual!), we’re sharing another blog post about our cottages, this time written by Scott Fry, who writes at Real Man Travels. He was in Newfoundland last summer, and we’re happy to have been a stop on his journey. For anyone planning a trip to the island, Scott’s account offers some useful tips and ideas. He also calls our cottages “highly recommended,” so there’s some more great advice! Read the whole post here.

Thanks to Scott for choosing us and for his kind words and reviews. And to see more reviews of Ocean Delight, please check out our TripAdvisor page – we’re very proud of it!

Sunset Sunday: Very Bright

Sun Setting over the ocean at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsI think I pulled out my camera at just the right moment this day. The sun is still bright, casting a beautiful glow over the ocean, over Shag Rock, over Whitway, over our cottages. Moments like these, with or without a camera to capture them, I feel truly blessed and lucky to be alive. And grateful that we get to share this beauty with all our guests. And each other.

Two Trees

Two trees on the waters edge at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsSaturday on the blog we try to showcase the natural beauty of Newfoundland. Of course, there’s poetry all around us in this beautiful province. Here’s two trees as seen from our back patio, standing alone on the snowy water’s edge – with the sun out it’s a perfect winter wonderland. Have a great weekend.

Shag Rock, Snowy

Shag Rock in Atlantic Ocean as viewed from our Newfoundland cottage rentalsA few days ago we blogged about the icy waves here, we’ve had some nasty weather, and seems like the entire continent is having a wacky winter. Certainly we’ll all be happy when Spring rolls around. But here’s a snowy shot of Shag Rock to show why we love the Wonderful World of Whiteway, through rain, shine, sleet and snow! Please remember that there’s still a month left of our popular Stay In and Stay Warm package (great if you need a romantic respite from this winter!), and our Valentine’s Special at The Doctor’s House (which comes with a gourmet 3-course dinner, plus some more add-ons), is still available this weekend. Happy Friday, everyone!
