Still Love the View

View at our oceanfront Newfoundland cottagesWe recently introduced a special Buy One Night, Get One Night Free offer for the holiday season, and we’ve gotten a good response – and to me, this picture captures why. We’re so blessed in this province to never be too far a drive from the ocean and beautiful vistas. But when the ocean is literally right off your back deck, something magical happens, and it’s totally engrossing and relaxing. I can see why people like the thought of getting away from the holiday hustle for a few nights!

The Building Continues

Building greenhouses at our newfoundland resort

Our work never ends, and we’re grateful for all of it. We love The Doctor’s House as is, but we see so much potential, which we’re working to draw out. Here’s two new greenhouses that have just been completed for spring. Next season, to accompany our gourmet meals each weekend, we’ll also have fresh veggies and herbs!

Dreaming of a White Christmas?

Newfoundland poniesThis is shaping up to be a beautiful season, both at The Doctor’s House, with our new gourmet meals and extended spa specials, and at Ocean Delight, with our BOGO offer at the cottages. And a light dusting of snow makes it all more magical.

Here is a picture of Beauty, her daughter Shamrock, and Monty that I took at The Doctor’s House yesterday.  It was a great sight but the photo marginally represents it. Truly a winter wonderland, indeed.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Best Buds

Golden retriever and devon rex relax at our ocean front cottagesI was thrilled when Friday, this sweet new golden retriever, joined our Ocean Delight family – I knew we were going to get along great! However, Molly, Joe’s Devon Rex, is quite the character (is that what you call ‘damning with faint praise?’). We’ve grown to love each other, but I wasn’t sure how she was going to take to a new comer.

Turns out, she’s taken to him swimmingly! Looks like Friday warmed her heart much quicker than even I could, and the two are happy to cuddle and relax together at Joe’s new spot at The Doctor’s House (which has just extended its spa specials, by the way!).

Today Jerry, one of my two best buds, is speaking at a luncheon for Irish Loop Chamber of Commerce – wish him luck!

BOGO at the Cottages!

We think (naturally!) that a stay at our cottages makes a great holiday experience. We’ve got everything you need to relax and catch your breath during the busy season, and you can even cut down your own tree here! That’s why we’re offering a holiday Buy One Night, Get One Night Free special, good for all new bookings until January 4, 2014. You have to make your reservation by Dec.4, though, so don’t wait! For more details, please see here. And if you’d like to be the first to hear about promotions like this in the future, be sure to sign up for our mailing list. Hope to see you soon!

Also, to get in some extra relaxation, remember that we’re a five minute drive from The Doctor’s House, where we’re recently extended our spa packages until June 15, 2014.

Thanks to our new friend, Newfoundland artist Leonard Howlett, for the great photo, showing how beautiful and fun an evening in Heart’s Delight can be, any time of the year!

Sunset Sunday: Thanks Again, Bud

Newfoundland photographyThis blog really wouldn’t be what it is without our friend Bud Vincent sharing so many of his pictures with us. He’s an amazing photographer, and his work showcases the beauty and brilliance of this province in a way I never could. I love sunsets – they’re my muse – and I love sharing pictures of them. But never have I seen one captured so brilliantly as above. So here’s a question: anyone know where this image was taken?

Budding Saturday: Beyond the Overpass

Harcourt NewfoundlandAnother beauty from brilliant Newfoundland photographer, Bud Vincent, this time of Harcourt, on Smith Sound. Bud likes to document all the charms of this island ‘outside the overpass’ – meaning, outside St. John’s. Since moving to the Wonderful World of Whiteway, we’ve definitely learned (again) how much this province has to offer. We’re certainly blessed.

This weekend, we’re decorating The Doctor’s House for Christmas – I can’t wait. You can learn more about our offerings there in our Christmas newsletter. And remember, tonight at 7pm, we’ll be offering a brilliant 3 course meal. For more info, or to see the menu, please see here.

In My Heart’s Delight

Heart's Delight in NewfoundlandSometimes, Laurelyn and I like to spend time in our cottages in Heart’s Delight. It’s nice to spend the weekend where our journey began around two years ago. It is hard to imagine we didn’t own these cottages until Nov. 26, 2011. Spending time here, looking out the window, puts it all in perspective. This place is magical and therapeutic – and so worth all the time and energy we give it. Even as we approach the winter months, we’re still so lucky to be able to get out here every chance we get. If you’d like your own magic and therapy, stay tuned and please sign up for our mailing list, as we’ll be sending out a new offer from the cottages soon.

Tuesdays with Murphy: Friends Relax

Golden retriever and devon rex cat at our ocean front Newfoundland cottagesAs our Ocean Delight family has grown (from some small cottages to now including the Shag It, still open for private functions and holiday get-togethers, and The Doctor’s House), so too has the number of four-leggeds who get to relax on a Sunday afternoon. Here’s Molly, our famed Devon Rex, and Friday, our new Murphy-imposter, enjoying lots of free time at Joe’s. Sunday’s my favourite day of the week, too – it’s the only time I can get Jerry and Laurelyn to stop working for a few hours! Anyway, here’s to lots more warm, cuddle sessions as the holidays get closer.
