First Wedding of the Season!

Wedding at The Doctor's HouseBusy day = short post. Today’s our first wedding of the season at The Doctor’s House. Here’s a photo from last year, of Danielle and Christian. We’re sure today’s wedding will be equally lovely, and all our best wishes to the happy couple!

It’s a Big World

Pre-warned – this video is super cute, and super loud! Jack and Jill, our new baby goats, recently learned that it’s a big, big world out there. They’ve gotten big enough to join the rest of the herd – and join them they did!

Everyone took a few moments to adjust to the new hierarchy, but soon after, everything – and everyone – was back to normal. Jack and Jill are becoming more confident each day. So if you’re a guest at the inn, restaurant or spa at The Doctor’s House, make sure you stop by to see how they’re doing!

Finally, here’s a simple reminder that Dining at The Doctor’s House is open tonight and tomorrow, and you don’t need to be an overnight guests to dine with us. We hope to see you there!

Introducing The Doctor’s Guest House!

Guest Room at our NL Guest HouseWell, we did the impossible – we got The Doctor’s Guest House ready for our opening last weekend. We were working hard to get it finished, but then, this industry is all about working for your guests, now, isn’t it? So, we were happy to get this 4 bedroom house, overlooking Trinity Bay, ready for its first occupants.

Remember, The Doctor’s Guest House is just steps away from our main inn and wedding loft (making it great for wedding parties!), and we currently have a weekend special making it even easier for you and your family, or you and a group of friends, to enjoy it. Find more pictures here, and please email info@doctorshousenewfoundland.com to learn more or make a reservation!

Another Successful Whiteway Spring Hare

Whiteway Spring HareDue to a busy schedule at The Doctor’s House, we were unable to be as involved with the Whiteway Spring Hare this year. But we know it’s an event not to be missed. This yearly artistic community event showcases all the wonderful talent in our little community, and our little island, and it’s always a treat to hear the recitals, poems and stories. Here’s a big thanks to the Spring Hare Committee, comprised of many of our friends, for putting on yet another amazing event!

Welcome, Lindsay!

New staff memeber at our ocean front cabinsHere’s a hearty ‘hello’ and ‘welcome to the Ocean Delight family,’ to the lovely and talented Lindsay! Lindsay arrived last week from Mexico, where she worked steadfastly in the tourism industry – she brings a lot to the table and we can’t wait to see her in action. She says she was getting tired of the heat, but really, we think she had just heard lots of wonderful things about the Wonderful World of Whiteway!

We’re thrilled to have Lindsay on board. She is replacing wonderful Dana while she’s on maternity leave (mom and baby are doing great!). So she has big shoes to fill – but we’re sure she’s up to the task.  And if you’re a bride or groom working with The Doctor’s House, or interested in our corporate events, you might be hearing a lot more from her soon!

Spring is Springing

Flowers at The Doctor's HouseHere’s proof that despite a long and dreary winter, Spring has arrived at The Doctor’s House – and summer can’t be far behind. Before you know it, we’ll be in full bloom, our English gardens bursting with colour and beauty. And if you’d like a reminder of just what that looks like, here you go:

Days Away and Almost Ready

Construction on our guest house Here’s a mid-project shot from Randy, who painting the bathroom at The Guest House.  This was the last room to be done – we’re now focusing on final touches and populating the house with furniture and equipment. We’re opening it this weekend and intend to delight our first guests!

The Guest House of course is our latest addition to The Doctor’s House offerings. Guests will enjoy 4 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a private lounge area – and an amazing view. It’s all steps away from the spa and Dining at The Doctor’s House, and from the new babies in the barn. We can’t wait to share it (and don’t miss our Ladies Retreat Special if you’d like to see it for yourself!)

What’s All the Fuss About?

Newfoundland poniesThis weekend was all about the new arrivals, and don’t think our resident four-leggeds weren’t curious about what all the fuss was about! Here’s Beauty, Shamrock and Monty, our Newfoundland ponies, all turning a curious eye and ear towards the new goats and lambs. We’re happy to report that all are getting along quite nicely, making us even more confidant that growing our barnyard family was the right thing to do!

Sunset Sunday: Don’t Adjust Your Screen

Sunset in NewfoundlandDon’t adjust your computer screen – colours like this really do exist in the Wonderful World of Whiteway! We’re blessed – and so are our guests – to be right on the ocean, with front row tickets to the best show in the universe, every night. It never disappoints. And sometimes, like this evening I captured, it’s almost life-changing in all it’s pastel glory. Here’s to Shag Rock and the Setting Sun!

Budding Saturday: A Classic

Fish Flakes in NewfoundlandSuch a beautiful picture to share on this Saturday morning. If you’ve followed my blog for awhile then you know that I often like to share photography from all over the island on Saturdays (yes, we love the Wonderful World of Whiteway, but we always encourage our guests to see as much of this beautiful province as possible).

More often than not, our Saturday photos come to us from friend and Newfoundland extraordinaire, Bud Vincent.  This photo of his is an oldie but goodie, of what would have been a quite common scene in Newfoundland just a generation or two ago. I still love a little salt cod now and then. Although I’m also happy to report that we have Herb Crusted Newfoundland Cod with Green Pea Risotto, Saffron & Leak Sauce and Apple Gastrique available tonight at The Doctor’s House (all welcome!).
