It’s Beginning to Look a Bit Like Christmas at The Doctor’s House!

Newfoundland in MarchIt was a green AND white St. Patrick’s Day yesterday, thanks to Sheila’s Brush.  A visit to our appropriately named Shamrock and Bridie seemed like a fitting way to spend the holiday (especially since we’d already got our Irish dancing in over the weekend).

Maybe we’re past the point of wanting to snow, but how beautiful and peaceful it looks when freshly fallen. Since we’re lucky enough to work from home, the storm didn’t keep us from working – it just encouraged a little extra cozying up when necessary!

The view here from the kitchen is unbelievable, and the beauty is that it won’t last.  We are expecting one more storm this weekend and that should it.  Sheila will have used all her paint, and Spring will descent upon the Wonderful World of Whiteway and The Doctor’s House in all her glory – bring it on!Newfoundland ponies

Budding Saturday: March

Chopped WoodOur good friend, big fan, and renowned Newfoundland artist Bud Vincent recently shared this picture on our Facebook page (check out a fun slideshow of his work here).  And, given this scene he captured, he wondered if we could believe it’s March! Thankfully, this picture was NOT taken in the Wonderful World of Whiteway where, despite a tough winter, we actually haven’t been hit too badly with snow. Just another reason to come take advantage of our Winter Specials while you still can!

Future Chapel

Wedding chapel in NewfoundlandWe have big plans for The Doctor’s House and the Baccalieu Trail. We’ve been blessed with this amazing natural resource created by Nature and Dr. and Mrs. Boddie (our namesakes). And we’re continuing to grow, bringing in human resources to match our natural ones.

One of our plans is to convert this barn into a wedding chapel. Our vision: a bride will arrive at this chapel on a horse drawn carriage (currently available), get married in the chapel – or the bridal garden – or the house – or the Barn Loft – and then celebrate her reception here, too.

So here is the pony barn slated for conversion. We’ll be modelling it after a beautiful one a friend found in Scotland.  Stay tuned as we unveil more and more of our plans – including our Fine Dining plans for this year. We’re opening soon, and we can’t wait!

One Month Left!

Firepit at our newfoundland cottagesNow that March is here, here’s a friendly reminder – there’s only one month left to Stay In ‘N’ Stay Warm! Stay In ‘N’ Stay Warm of course is our popular and fabulously cozy winter special, complete with movies, firewood, and a continental breakfast for two. Snow Days Past and Present

Snow days in newfoundlandMy oldest daughter, Adrienne, recently shared this picture on Facebook, and it’s worth repeating! She was enjoying an uncommon snowday for her part of the world (lucky thing lives in the South!), and spent some of her time off going through old family photos. And clearly inspired, this is the result! We hope however you’re spending this weekend, you get to spend some time with your loved ones. The memories really are all that matters.

Cats in Bowls

cat at our newfoundland cottage rentalsLaurelyn loves this bowl. But it’s not hers anymore! Zoe, our littlest kitten, has claimed ownership. And if possession is 9/10ths of the law, then given the amount of time she spends in it, I’d saw Zoe has a new bowl!

I Missed You!

our golden retriever It’s good to be home, here at our cottages. On arrival we were greeted by 4 lovelycats and two over-sized dogs. I only have a picture of the forlorn, I-am-so-glad-you’re-back-I-really-missed-you Friday here. Trust us – there were lots and lots of cuddles this evening!

The house is lovely, the snow is beautiful – although we only have a few inches (gratefully). Settling back in after a long away is always nice. Familiarity is its own reward. And there is nothing like the bed your body has trained to fit you. The same old blankets, smells, dogs snoring, cats playing, fridge creaking, ocean singing, thoughts wandering – ahhhh! Home is home!

Margarita-ville, Or Something Like It

Relaxing in MexicoYes, our days in Mexico are numbered. We’re done lots of planning, and we’ll be excited to get home, to our beautiful Newfoundland cottages and all our sweet animals. But, while we can – we relax! And we sip! And soak up the sun! But we’ve got lots of fun stuff up our sleeves for when we come back – stay tuned!

Sweet Praise from a Sweet Bride

Saltscapes MagazineLook what our lovely bride Danielle recently emailed us. It’s a copy of an interview she did in Saltscapes Magazine, talking about her gorgeous wedding last summer at The Doctor’s House.  We loved having her and her wonderful family and groom, and we’re happy to see that they enjoyed themselves too! But don’t take our word for it:

“There is something so genuine and sincere about the property. When we drove there the first time and rounded the turn to see the white fences with the Newfoundland ponies, the beautiful trees and flowers giving the land all sorts of colours, and then met Rosie the goat, I was sold ….. The barn is every ‘rustic-chic bride’s’ dream. It truly is. They kept the integrity of the structure and accented it with beautiful drapes to lead into the room and stunning chandeliers … Without decorating at all it creates a perfect backdrop.”
