Havin’ a Time!

Tourists in MexicoYes sir – we are having a fabulous time in Mexico, enjoying the lovely weather, the local culture, the plus-sized margaritas. Sayulita is a great place, and we’re happy to be here.

But you know we had to check out the local Irish pub – especially since it’s called Murphy’s Irish Pub! And wouldn’t you know it – Newfoundland musicians Dave Whitty and Matt Cooke showed up! What a treat to have a real taste of home, so far from home. Newfoundlanders – we’re everywhere. And we always know how to have a time!

Clifford’s Feathered Friends

Feeding birds at our newfoundland cottage rentalsA very happy belated birthday to our good friend, Clifford George. A gentle soul, we can almost hear Mary Poppins singing (‘….feed the birds … toppins a bag ….’) as we write this. Thanks to Clifford and Shirley for sharing these sweet photos, and reminding us to stop and feed the birdies from time to time!Clifford George feeds a little bird

A Bright Shining Sun for Susan and Scott

wedding couple at our newfoundland resortWhat a beautiful day for a beautiful couple – here’s Susan and Scott, who got married last summer. The day before their wedding – rain. The day after their wedding – rain. The day of their wedding – blue skies ahead! Newfoundland couple married at our newfoundland hotelSusan recently shared these lovely photos, taken by Farell Cahill Photography. We’ll be sharing more on Facebook and Pinterest, so be sure to follow us there. And thanks again to Susan and Scott, for sharing their day with us, and congratulations once more!

Sunset Sunday: More Sayulita

Sunset in Sayulita mexicoAhhh, there are worse ways to spend a Sunday than this. But, there’s a giveaway that we’re missing home – last night we went to Murphy’s Irish Pub! It’s become a favourite spot of ours. We like to go with friends and talk about Newfoundland. We’ve met a few Newfoundlanders, and lots of Canadians. It’s always nice to be reminded of home!

And Another Happy Couple!

Wedding at our Newfoundland hotelWhen it rains, it pours, and we’ve had several brides share their stunning wedding photos with us lately. Here’s Samantha and Chris, who got married this past August. Samantha’s parents live just down the road from us – it’s always nice to meet our neighbours! Samantha also works in the tourism industry, and told us The Doctor’s House is the most beautiful place she’s ever seen (we’re blushing, but we concur!).

Wedding couple at our Newfoundland hotelSo thanks again to Samantha for sharing these gorgeous photos, and for sharing a part of your special day with us. Congratulations, and we wish you all the best!

Frosty Festival Coming Soon!

Newfoundland winter festivalJerry raised his family in Mount Pearl, so it has a special place in his heart. And since we’re only about an hour outside Mount Pearl, we know lots of our guests hail from this great city. So here’s a friendly reminder that the Frosty Festival is coming up! Hard to believe it’s in its 33rd year – we remember the first! This year they’ve got lots of great events lined up, including an International Food and Craft Fair, Wine Tasting, and live show with Shanneyganock and The Irish Descendents. Not to be missed! Find all the details here.

Getting Busy on Pinterest!

pinterest page for our newfoundland spaOur Whiteway cottages are open all winter, but of course this season is a little slower for us. Which gives us extra time to turn to things like upping our social media game! To that extent, we’ve been having fun jumping into Pinterest. We have an account for The Doctor’s House, and already it’s so much fun getting involved with all you lovely pinners out there! So if you’re on Pinterst, please follow us. And we’re still on the ‘newbie’ side, so if you have any tips, we’d love to hear them!
