Cozy New Winter Specials for our Whiteway Cottages

Firepit at our Newfoundland cottagesWinter is tough in Newfoundland – all the more reason to indulge in a getaway now and then! Since we’re just an hour outside St. John’s, we’ve always loved having winter guests at the cottages, which is why we’re keeping our Whiteway cottages all winter long. And which is also why The Berry has just come up with some extra-cozy winter specials, to make them just that bit more tempting. Enjoy the Stay In ‘n Stay Warm Special, or the Sleep In Special, both designed to make the long nights warmer, and the morning even cuddlier. Find all the details here.

Whiteway Cottages Open All Winter!

Golden retriever at our Newfoundland cottagesWe’re happy to announce that our Whiteway cottages are going to be open all winter long, even The Cranberry! And we’re soon going to be unveiling some specials that will make your stay just a little bit warmer, so please stay tuned. So many tourism operators in Newfoundland shut down over the winter, so we’re happy to provide getaway space for anyone who loves to be right on the water’s edge, no matter what time of year it is. Given the number of trails around us, it’s a great time for snowshoeing, skiddoing, or taking your dogs on some enthusiastic walks!

Office Space

Office at our Newfoundland cabinsTalk about a room with a view. I’ve never had an office space quite like this one. Although I’ve never lived in a community quite like this one, either. We had a great weekend, and we’re starting to get into the busy Christmas season. Please note that The Doctor’s House will be open until Dec. 20, both the spa and the inn, and that we offer gift certificates – which make great gifts!

The Perfect Gift

Xmas gift at our Newfoundland hotelFor our money, both literal and figurative, experiences with loved ones are so much more valuable than things. Not that we don’t love presents under the tree as much as anyone, but we love when those gifts can really help us have more meaningful experiences. That’s why we’re happy to be offering gift certificates to the The Doctor’s House this year. They can be used for both our Inn and Spa, and for Dining at The Doctor’s House. And trust us – an indulgent weekend away can be just what the doctor – and Santa! – ordered!

Pretty Potholes

Newfoundland photographyAs says one of favourite Newfoundland artists, Bud Vincent, “even potholes can begin to look neato, with a little embellishment, thanks to fallen leaves and rose petals.” We love the sentiment, and will try to hone our artistic sides to see the beauty all around us (not hard in the Wonderful World of Whiteway!). Bud took this photo a few weeks ago in Harcourt, Newfoundland. If the potholes are this pretty, we can only imagine what the town is like! Happy Saturday, all.

Atlantic Ocean at our Doorstep

Back doorstep that is! And we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’ve had some high winds lately, tossing the ocean to and fro.  The water is a beautiful deep blue, and the caps are pure white.  A lovely scene! Sadly, despite the amazing weather outside, The Berry has been a little under the weather herself. We hope she recoups so we can enjoy the weekend. And we hope you have a great weekend, too!

Room with a Snowy View

View from our Newfoundland resort hotel and spaTake a closer look and you can see Muphy’s long tail in this photo! Here’s the view from The Doctor’s House – equally pretty in winter as summer! We’re back to living at our Ocean Delight location, and we’ve got some stunning views there, too. It is awesome to live by the water. On windy days, you can hear the wind and see the waves as if you were on the deck of a cruise ship.  No rolling or heaving of the ship, just the wonder of nature close up and personal.  It’s a treat, to be sure!

Budding Saturday: Newfoundland’s Beloved

Newfoundland puffinsHere’s another beautiful photo that Newfoundland photographer (and friend) Bud Vincent sent us – this one of of Newfoundland and Labrador’s beloved puffin. These little guys really are sweet – if you come to Newfoundland, you must take a whale watch, if only because you’ll also be treated to seeing puffins in their natural habitat, too. They’re really something to see, and we’re grateful to Bud for sharing!

Dog Heaven

Two goldern retrievers at our newfoundland cottage rentalsWhenever we get a moment, we try to enjoy what our guests enjoy. Like walking along the ocean’s edge. We know that Friday and Murphy certainly enjoy it, too! It really is a dog’s heaven out here, and we’ve got to strong and healthy boys to prove it. Remember that pets are welcome at our cabins for a small fee, and our Couple’s Fall Getaway Package is still on. Maybe Murphy and Friday will getting some company soon!
