In Rememberance

Rememberance Day CollageMany thanks to Bud Vincent for sharing this powerful collage of his powerful work, so that we can raise our voices of thanks with the countless other Canadians, and citizens across the world, on this Rememberance Day. We’ll be taking a moment of silence today to remember all our brave service men and women, past and present, and we’ll be praying for a peaceful future, too. We’re sure you’ll be joining us in spirit. God bless.

A Birthday Celebration

Guests at our Newfoundland resortGuests celebrating their birthday at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe love it when guests share their special occasions with us – big ones, like weddings, of course, but also anniversaries, birthdays, proposals, and reunions are all heightened with a beautiful getaway. So a big Happy Birthday goes out to Charlene, a lovely guest who recently celebrated with us. We’re thrilled that she had a great birthday, and hope she comes back to see us soon!

And while it makes us blush, we had to share her glowing message, sent to us on Facebook. We know we have fabulous staff, and we’d like to pass on a thanks to them, too, for all they do for our guests. And thanks, Charlene, for the very kind words!

Review from our guests

Beautiful Sunday

Shag RockThis is the view from my office, so that even if I have to work on a Sunday, I am blessed. It’s been another eventful week. We’ve extended our popular Date Night Special until December 21, and we’re already getting bookings for the Christmas season. Please remember we’re available for group Christmas dinner and parties, and that it’s always best to book early. And please remember to have a great Sunday!

Welcome, Jerry!

Staff at our Newfoundland cafeWelcome on board to another Jerry with a J! Meet Jerry, who we’ve recently welcomed to our team. That’s him with our fabulous, part-time chef Lori Marsh. We’re so happy to have such a great team, and we’re sure that Jerry is going to fit in swimmingly!

Off to Hollywood!

Jerry off to Hollywood? Not quite, but we are proud to be part of new feature that will be highlighting what’s amazing about the Baccalieu Trail. Which is just about everything! Please stay tuned for more!

Happy Birthday!

Newfoundland fire departmentA hearty Happy Birthday and a hearty thanks, too, to the Heart’s Delight -Islington Volunteer Fire Department, which just celebrated 40 years of service. These brave souls are invaluable to our community, and the very picture of service. Their gift from the province was a big new truck. Sure to be well received, and remember – fire detectors save lives, so go check yours right now!

‘Date Night Special’ Extended Through December!

Winter at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe are happy to announce that we have just extended our Date Night Special all the way through December. Now you can come enjoy a cozy night away at our romantic inn, coupled with a gourmet meal prepared by our now legendary and award-winning chef, Chris Chafe, plus a yummy hot breakfast, too. We’re finding it’s not just couples who are taking advantage of this indulgent getaway – many girlfriends are using it as an excuse to getaway, drink some wine, and maybe throw in a spa treatment (or two!) as well. Our Date Night to Remember has been extended until December 21, so that you can get some needed peace and relaxation amongst all the hustle and bustle of the holiday season!

Please note as well that for the rest of the season, both our Inn and Dining will be open to reservation only, Thursday through Saturday nights. After December 21, we will close for the winter – so please come visit before we do.

And a final note – we’re open for group Christmas dinners and parties, both at The Doctor’s House and at the Shag It. It might seem early, but now is really the time to start making your plans. Stay tune for more details!

Welcome, OSSIS

Guests at our corporate retreatThe Shag It may be closed for the season, but only to the general public, and we were more than happy to open its doors, as well as the doors of all our cottages, to these lovely ladies. They’re from  Operational Stress Injury Social Support, a group that meets a growing need of peer support for stress-related injuries for our military. You can read about their very important work here. We salute these women and their military families, and we were proud to be their hosts.

And please remember that the Shag It is always open to corporate events and private functions. Please learn more here.

Albert’s Vision

Photo of the The Doctor's HouseOur good friend and neighbour, Albert Legge,  is also a great photographer, so sometimes he takes lovely photos for us to share on the blog. We love showcasing all the wonder that is the Baccalieu Trail – we’re just happy to be a part of it! The trees practically on fire with their deep reds this Fall have been quite dramatic – and certainly a photographers dream. Thanks to Albert for sharing!
