We’ve got a busy weekend coming up, with the highly anticipated Alice’s Tea Party, a wedding, plus some more community events on the go, too. So if ever there were a time to relax, now it is! Thankfully, even when we only have a minute or two to spare, there’s lots of beautiful places here to escape to. The Berry has actually been in Ontario of late, visiting her daughter and granddaughter. We’re excited to get her back tomorrow, and get our busy weekend started!
Autumn’s A-Coming!
The nights are getting a little shorter, with a definite crisp in the air. And as much as we love summer, we’re excited! For the warm drinks, the fires, and getting our cozy sweaters out from the back of the drawers. Of course, we have our Fall Specials on, which are always popular. But fall is more than that. It’s a time for slowing down, taking stock, spending longer nights with loved ones. Please let us know in the comments – what’s your favourite part of fall, or do you just miss summer?
Another Beauty
It never gets old! Here’s a beautiful shot of the sun setting over Green’s Harbour. We always recommend that our guests come down to the waterfront at The Doctor’s House. There’s a great view from their rooms, of course, but there’s also nothing like getting up close and personal. Happy Sunday.

How truly blessed we are our here on the Baccalieu! We didn’t know what to expect when we packed up and left St. John’s those few years ago, bound for the Wonderful World of Whiteway. What we found is a vibrant and thriving community, with more art and culture than you can shake a stick at (pardon our cliche). Of course, we’re excited about Alice’s Tea Party, and we’ve used this blog to share so many upcoming events. So, mark your calendars for the next – what looks to be a fun evening with Karren Churchill. Bubble Bath by the Sea
Here’s another picture of the stunning Cranberry cottage, this time taken by Dining at The Doctor’s House Chef Cate (and yes, her culinary skills are even better than her photography ones!). We’ve had a request by a lovely guest coming to stay with us this November to share more photos of the rest of the cottage, and we’ll oblige soon. Dressed to the Nines
Jerry’s so excited about weddings at The Doctor’s House that he’ll do just about anything to spread the word – even if that means donning tux and top hat like he did to the recent Ultimate Bridal Show! We had a great day and got to meet lots of great people. If you’re one of the brides who stopped by, thanks so much for getting in touch, and stay tuned – we’ll be drawing from your names for the big winner soon!
Family Getaway
Amy is a former colleague of Jerry’s, so it was a special treat to have her bring her parents for a family getaway at our Cranberry cottage last weekend. We love all our guests, of course, but it’s always fun to catch up with old and dear friends. Amy hasn’t changed (and that’s a very good thing!), but she’s expanding her business as a Writer and Communications Specialist, so it was fun to hear about her plans.
The Cranberry has two bedrooms, making it ideal for multi-generational family getaways. And with Shag Rock offering the perfect photo-op off your back deck, you’re sure to get some great pics for remembering your weekend away. Thanks to Amy for sharing this one, which we also suspect may end up framed on her mantle!

Glowing Cranberry
Thanks to our old friend, Amy, for sharing this stunning photo, captured on her recent trip to Ocean Delight. This, of course, is The Cranberry , our newly built, two-story and two-bedroom honeymoon suite. Guests here enjoy a fully equipped eat-in kitchen, premium furnishings, upper and lower decks, a barbecue and fire pit, and this a 2-person soaker tub – and yes, that is ocean as far as the eye can see. A Pony, a Sheep, and a Goat ….
‘A pony, a sheep, and a goat’ …. it sounds like a set-up to a joke, right? Except in this case, the punch line is just that the three animals lay down in their field, happily enjoying each other’s company. All our sweet four-leggeds have turned out to be huge draws at The Doctor’s House, especially since they all love attention from our guests. They truly have the life!
All Creatures Great and Small
Here’s a recent view from our kitchen table. All our 4 leggeds – ponies, goat and sheep – side by side, each eating the fresh new grass. It was a deep-breath-moment and time to count our blessings. When we’re staying at Ocean Delight, our view is fishing boats in the harbour. Here at The Doctor’s House, it’s our beloved flock in the grass. Not sure which is better!
