It never gets old! Here’s a beautiful shot of the sun setting over Green’s Harbour. We always recommend that our guests come down to the waterfront at The Doctor’s House. There’s a great view from their rooms, of course, but there’s also nothing like getting up close and personal. Happy Sunday.
Blurry, but Nice!
After a long day of work, this is my favourite place to retire – at Hopeall Point, on the oceanfront of our property at The Doctor’s House. We have some chairs here, and it’s so restorative – especially on a beautiful fall evening, like when I took this picture. It’s a little blurry, but no picture could it justice anyway. I always recommend that our Doctor’s House couples come down here, alone, the night before their wedding, to reflect and connect before their big day. Because it’s pure magic, and I can’t think of a better way to kick off a new life together. Happy Saturday.
A Room with a View
A guest recently took this picture from her room at The Doctor’s House, and we’re more than happy to share. Living in Newfoundland, of course the ocean has never been far away. But since The Berry and I moved first to the Wonderful World of Whiteway and now this summer to nearby Green’s Harbour, it’s been so fun and mesmerizing to have the ocean truly in our backyard. It’s a blessing, and one that we are know our neighbours are grateful for, too. And, clearly, our guests too!
Yoga Anywhere
Our faerie friend Lisa Day is a yogi and often speaks about the importance of yoga for a healthful life. Well, our recent guest, Chris, has more than put that concept into perspective for us! If you can hold a pose in the very chilly Atlantic, and keep a smile on your face – then you must be doing something right. Here he is at our Long Point Cove cottages. Namaste!
Biggest Catch of the Day!
There are a few days left to the recreational food fishery, and this happy camper is making the best of it! This wasn’t Anna’s first catch, but it was by far the biggest of the day. The perfect treat to bring home to her mom, our Dana, who we’re cooked it to perfection. Congratulations, Anna, on the steady hand!
Have you taken advantage of the food fishery? Make sure you do – the next one’s not til September 21!
Iceberg Bits = Iceberg Ice Cubes!
Icebergs are more than just pretty (and pretty awesome) things to look at. When their chunks wash up on shore, we like to collect them, keep them in our freezer, and use them as ice cubes! They’re about as refreshing as it gets, with lots of pop and fizzle when you pour in your drinks. Here, one of our iceberg ice cubes is being used with some good old Screech, but any cool beverage will do!
Reason #4581 Why We Love Newfoundland – the Sunsets!
We’re partial to our views in Whiteway and Green’s Harbour, but if you live anywhere in Newfoundland or have visited, you know what we’re talking about. Maybe our weather isn’t always the greatest, maybe the skies not always the sunniest, but in all my world travels, I’ve never seen sunsets, with all the the illuminescent colours, like what we get here. Even artists have never fully captured the beauty, because they’re beyond picture-perfect. We’re truly blessed!
Sunset Sunday – Thanks, Cate
Thanks are in order to Shag It Cafe Executive Chef Cate Dore for sharing all her beautiful photos of our Whiteway view on our Facebook page. An Ontarian, clearly she is enchanted by our Newfoundland sunsets as much as we are – please follow us on Facebook to see more of her shots.
But of course, bigger thanks are in order for all the hard work she puts into the Shag It – it’s been paying off and then some. Her fresh salads are a hit – as is the rest of her ‘real food’ menu. We’re now open Thursday through Monday, with a Senior’s Discount of 10% Fridays and Mondays, so we know she’s working hard. Since we’re new to the restaurant business, we feel truly blessed to have such experienced hands in the kitchen!
Don’t Make Us Blush!
We’ve been so busy getting ready for wedding season and just trying to offer the best possible customer service and experiences possible to our guests, that we often go to bed too exhausted to think of little else besides all our plans for the next day. We’re working on slowing down, but we don’t always take the time to step back and appreciate all that we’ve currently accomplished. That’s why it was a thrill to learn that MSN Travel included The Doctor’s House on their list of the top seaside resorts in Canada. It’s a small list, and we’re in stellar company, and we’re humbled and honored to have already made it to their radar. And we’re doing our best to live up to the accolades!
And big thanks again to guests Stephen and Kayla, who shared some of their beautiful photos (like the one you see above), on a recent stay with us. As you can see, we’re really seaside!
Northern Neighbours Visiting (or, Bergs? We Got ‘Em!)
All over Newfoundland, our bays are filled with our annual visitors from the North, who drop down each summer to say hello. Whiteway is no exception, thankfully. Here is a big such iceberg that drifted past Shag Rock yesterday. It was humongous, but you need a good photographer and camera to appreciate it – given how far away and humongous Shag Rock is itself.
Thankfully, our friend and neighbour Albert Legge is a good photographer with a good camera, and he shared his pics with us. Below is the view from the Shag It yesterday. Both are beautiful shots. What a province!
