Tuesdays with Murphy: Bon Voyage Berry!

Goldren retrievers relax wtih the owner of our ocean front cottage rentals in NewfoundlandThe Berry works so hard, so it’s hard to be selfish – she deserves a trip to Ontario to visit her family. But who will we snuggle with on lazy Sunday afternoons? Or any day for that matter? We’ll be quite sad without her these next few weeks, we’re sure, but we wish her a fabulous vacation filled with lots of love and relaxation. And we’ll be waiting with open paws when she gets back!

Last Sleigh Ride of the Season

Sleigh Ride in rural NewfoundlandThere are few things in the world more delightful than Clifford out with his Newfoundland Pony, Annie. His wife Shirley sent us these shots from last week, from what they believe will be the last sleigh ride of the season. She reports that the paths have broken down in the woods, and the sun is gaining its power, so it’s time to put the wintertime fun away. But we’re sure these rides were a bright spot in an otherwise dark season! Goodbye Sweet Molly

Devon Rex CatWe’d like to take a break from our usually happy blogging to say goodbye to Molly, our sweet Devon Rex who passed away yesterday morning. We never had her as a kitten, as you see above – we hope that she enjoyed her adult years with us. She we beloved by all of us, including our goldens, and by everyone who met her. She was a rare creature and she will be missed.

If you have pets, you know how they become a part of your family. Below is how we’ll remember her. Pets at our ocean front cottage rentals in Newfoundland

Tuesdays with Murphy: St Paddy’s Hangover

celebrating st. patricks day in newfoundlandI don’t think Jerry and The Berry enjoyed too many St. Paddy’s Day libations yesterday, but it’s no fun putting away the green and revelry. So today’s blog falls on a bit of a holiday hangover. Always one to get in on the fun, Jerry dressed accordingly yesterday (reportedly down to his skivvies, though you’d have to follow us on Twitter to find proof of that!). And, as we like to say in Newfoundland, we had a time!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Life Lesson

Golden retriever and devon rex cat at our newfoundland cottage rentalsHere’s a life lesson about persistence, patience, forgiveness and love. You may remember that when Molly, our Devon Rex four-legged, joined our Ocean Delight family, I was actually frightened of her, despite our size difference. She came to us fearful, with some sadness in her past, and she did not take to me one bit – in fact, she did quite the opposite, often scratching and biting without justification. But I never gave up hope of a relationship, and I never responded with anything but grace and kindness. And now – this photo says it all. We’ve become cuddle buddies, keeping each other warm in this cold winter. I feel truly blessed!

Walk the Goat

Goat at our Newfoundland InnSome days, The Doctor’s House is so alluring that we take our work and spend our days there. Then it’s always a treat to take what Murphy calls our ‘four-leggeds’ out for a walk. I would never have guessed how friendly goats can be until I met our fabulous Miss Rosie. She was a little intimated of Murphy at first, but now she’s the clear leader, and they enjoy their walks together. She loves being around people and bossing around the other animals, she couldn’t be sweeter, and taking her on walks is always the highlight of the day.Dog and goat play

Some Love for Shamrock

Owner of Newfoundland Inn with her Newfoundland pony

We’ve had some questions after posting about our construction project to turn a barn at The Doctor’s House into a wedding reception hall, wondering whether it would displace our menagerie of animals. And the answer is, happily, no! Our Newfoundland ponies and goat have their own, newer barn, where they’re given lots of love and other necessities – and that’s not going to change.

Here’s Laurelyn with Shamrock, a looker if ever there was one, and the sweetest pony around. She loves attention and kisses, and absolutely loves humans. Thankfully, the feeling is mutual!

Tuesday with Murphy: Friday Chills

Golden Retriever in NewfoundlandSo I know the two leggeds have had a lot to deal with lately, with all the storms, power outages, cancellations, you name it. And I know MY two leggeds have had lots of work to do on top of that (something about staff meetings, promotions, new Valentine’s Day at The Doctor’s House plans, who knows). But I don’t worry about the hustle. I like to take a page from my brother, Murphy’s book – just chill! Because he is one cool dog, and nothing’s going to convince him otherwise!

The Fridays

golden retriever in newfoundlandSince Joe Friday took Dog Friday under his wing a few months ago, they’ve become fast friends. With a dog as sweet as Friday, it would be impossible not to fall in love. Thanks to Chef Anna Dohey, who has prepared the menu for our gourmet New Year’s Eve feast, for the great shots. Golden retriever and owner hug in NewfoundlandGolden retriever in NewfoundlandAnd don’t forget, there’s still time to make a reservation for our New Year’s Eve at The Doctor’s House, complete with gourmet fine dining by the fire, champagne, live music and fireworks at midnight. Tuesday with Murphy: Merry Christmas Eve!

relaxing in Newfoundland at ChrismtasMy humans seem to think that Christmas is a time of extra indulgence, plenty of rest and extra time for loved ones. Friday and I won’t argue with that! We love our ‘couch time’ with The Berry (or Jerry, of Joe, or pretty much any warm body that wants to snuggle up). So as you wait for Santa tonight (we’re excited for the 8 exotic four leggeds that should be flying by!), I hope you have someone to cuddle with, too.
