We never get tired of this view off our back deck (off our cottages’ back decks, too). Shag Rock is constant, yet the powerful Atlantic, and Newfoundland’s stunning sunsets, means the view is always changing. There’s definitely a metaphor for life there. Such a blessing to have lots to contemplate, a stellar view, good coffee and good company on a Sunday morning. God bless.
Happy Saturday
Happy Saturday, everyone! We hope you have a great weekend – and remember, we have lots of great Spring Specials lined up, so your next weekend could be your best one yet this year, spent with us. And if you’re wondering whether you should indulge this weekend, Murphy’s posing by Shag Rock to remind you, to just smile and say ‘Shag It!’
Happy Easter from Ocean Delight!
Happy Easter from all of our crew! We hope you’re enjoying a wonderful weekend with your family and friends and getting lots of rest and relaxation, t0o. And we’re excited to be hosting our first Easter brunch at The Doctor’s House. Thanks to Allison George for this beautiful photo of her dad, consummate Newfoundlander Clifford George. We’re lucky to call both friends. Now, get back to your chocolate-gorging!
Pink Skies and Smooth Sailing
I took this picture on a beautifully calm evening last week. I don’t think any words – or any picture, for that matter – do justice describing the Wonderful World of Whiteway, our wonderful setting suns. The Berry is still in Ontario, and I’m still holding down the fort. We have lots on the go, but just as much to be thankful for. Happy Sunday!
Last Sleigh Ride of the Season
There are few things in the world more delightful than Clifford out with his Newfoundland Pony, Annie. His wife Shirley sent us these shots from last week, from what they believe will be the last sleigh ride of the season. She reports that the paths have broken down in the woods, and the sun is gaining its power, so it’s time to put the wintertime fun away. But we’re sure these rides were a bright spot in an otherwise dark season! Thanks for Clifford and Shirley for sharing this fun event. And if you’d like to see this sleigh-ride live, then check our this video!
Thanks, Paul!
Beautiful Wedding Photos at The Doctor’s House
We haven’t hosted any weddings at The Doctor’s House yet – that’s coming up this summer. But last year a few couples came to take their wedding photos with us – it was learning experience for us, and they got to take some gorgeous shots.
Thank you to Krista Cooper, who recently shared these lovely photos taken last summer. Her sister-in-law Janice married Ace Steward last July. These beautiful images were taken by Sally Ledrew and Judi Stone, and while with such a gorgeous couple it would be hard to have anything less than stunning photos, we love how these capture the essence of The Doctor’s House, and how The Doctor’s House adds to their charm. Find more pictures of the happy couple on our Facebook site, and stay tuned, as we hope to share lots more happy wedding photos with you soon!
Happy St. Paddy’s!
There are many ways to say Happy St. Patrick’s Day but a picture is worth a 1000 words. In Paddy’s Day lingo all we can say is O’Clifford, O’George – what a great and quintessential Irish photo.
Allison has certainly captured the spirit of the Irish in this great pic. Clifford could be a leprechaun, an Irish poet, an Irish thinker, writer or anything Irish. Thankfully, he’s also all-Newfoundland, and all of the above – a true artist and true friend, with a touch of magic, too.
Allison and her partner Colleen of Artfully Yours Photography are our preferred wedding photographers at The Doctor’s House, and we’re sure you can see why. So expect to see more of their great work as we move into wedding season!
Good Neighbours
Since beginning our tourism journey with Ocean Delight Cottages a few years ago, we haven’t been able to stop raving about what we’ve dubbed the Wonderful World of Whiteway, not just for its physical beauty, but more for the warm, giving, funny and talented people we’ve met here. Now, The Doctor’s House is only a five minute drive from the cottages, but it’s in neighbouring town of Green’s Harbour. Since our new neighbours are equally fabulous, we’re going to come up with a new name … I’m not sure if ‘Great Green’s Harbour’ has the same ring?
Regardless, these gorgeous photos come to us from neighbour Paul Seymour, who reached out to us on our Facebook page to see if we’d want these beautiful shots. To which, of course, our answer was, yes! We know The Doctor’s House provides lots of photo ops, and we love when guests – and friends and neighbours! – share their beautiful pictures.
The Man Behind the Camera – Bud Vincent!
If you read my blog, you know what I think about Bud Vincent, as a man (extraordinary) and an artist (also, extraordinary). He’s a stunning photographer and shares some of his beautiful shots with us to use here – in fact, Saturday’s I often feature his work. So today, here’s the man behind the camera. Bud was also at the Hospitality NL conference this past few days. Thanks, Bud, for sharing with us and adding a little character to this humble blog!
