Another ‘Special’ Weekend at The Doctor’s House

Hot Tub at our Newfoundland resort inn and spaWe knew our Fall Specials would be a big hit at The Doctor’s House, but had no idea how much so. Co-owner and marketing genius Laurelyn Berry was right – people really do look to recharge and renew in autumn-time. It makes sense – we’re partied out after summer, and looking down the barrel of the busy holiday season. A relaxing getaway could be just what The Doctor ordered, pun intended! We’re happy to have another weekend filled with coming guests, and know at least some will be hitting this hot tub soon – it’s hard to resist!

Relax this Boxing Day

It’s Boxing Day, and Friday is encouraging us all to relax (like he is) and smell the Christmas dinner leftovers. We’re spending Christmas with our family – and many animals – at The Doctor’s House. One word describes it – divine. Here’s our most sincere wishes that yours is, too. And since it’s not too late to consider New Year’s plans, we’d love it if you considered spending it with us.

Still Love the View

View at our oceanfront Newfoundland cottagesWe recently introduced a special Buy One Night, Get One Night Free offer for the holiday season, and we’ve gotten a good response – and to me, this picture captures why. We’re so blessed in this province to never be too far a drive from the ocean and beautiful vistas. But when the ocean is literally right off your back deck, something magical happens, and it’s totally engrossing and relaxing. I can see why people like the thought of getting away from the holiday hustle for a few nights!

Late in the Evening – Early in the Morning

Fisherman and Shag Rock in rural Newfoundland, Canada

What a wonderful place we live in. Here is sun glistening off the water bouncing all around Shag Rock in the evening mist. And here is Alf out in his new boat fishing for scallops just in front of the house. It just doesn’t get any better than that.

Starting a BBQ a few nights, I took a few minutes to smell the ocean at low tide and hea it rushing over the rocks. The wind was warm, the sun was low, the colours were spectacular. It was only 15 minutes but it was a moment of recharge and re-ignition. I took breaths that took my breath away and made me grateful.

My wish for you is that you’re able to find your own quiet moments to commune with nature (and, if you’re lucky enough to be close, the ocean). It makes all the difference in the world. Smell the Rose

Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks? Here’s me trying out my new skills on a rose I gave The Berry (what, me, a die-hard romatic?). I think it looks pretty good!

And who says you can’t work and play hard? That’s what we’ve been trying to do at least. Learning the ropes, getting everything operational, commandeering the A Wake at Last, dealing with the busy summer season – we knew it would be a lot of work, but maybe not as much work as it’s been. So there’s only one way to deal with craziness around you, and that’s by carving out time for yourself. That’s why every day The Berry and I make sure we have a little ‘us’ time, even if it’s just taking a moment to smell the (sometimes literal) roses. And that’s why despite the workload, I still find time to enjoy the hammock my daughter gave me for Father’s Day. Today’s Saturday, so I hope your weekend, even if eventful, has a few quiet minutes for you to recharge your batteries!
