Tuesdays with Murphy: Fetch!

Boy oh boy, my humans sure need a lot of help! I’m not sure why, but Jerry keeps throwing sticks into the water. Someone has to retrieve them! Thankfully, ‘retriever’ is my middle name – literally – so I’m up to the challenge. Honestly, I don’t know what they’d do without me.

Got it! And I love the Atlantic Ocean – I’m so lucky to get to play here every day!

Whale in Trinity Bay

A big thanks to my lawyer, Steve Marshall, for these pictures. I would have loved to have seen this first-hand! But I’m grateful he sent me the pictures, and excited that this whale was playing in Trinity Bay – maybe I’ll see him next year on the A Wake at Last!

For a little more info on these photos, here’s what Steve wrote me: “Photographer was Leslie (Hutton) Martin who was aboard Terry Daley’s and Rosemary Buckingham’s Lady Nora this past August. We were cruising from Trinity to Pope’s Harbour when we came upon the whales….we stayed there for over an hour…..” Lucky sighting and great shots!

Sharing the Wheel

Summer may be winding down, but that doesn’t mean our boat trips are – not if Alf can help it! Last week we got to take out a great group of people from Ontario (and, as a side note, we get some many guests for that province!), Veronica, Dick, Patricia and Mike. They spent two weeks at The Blueberry and loved it – and we loved having them! Always fun to see the appreciative smiles when people get to see Shag Rock up close and personal.

Alf of course was our intrepid captain – except when the women took the wheel!

Sea Creature Spectrum

There’s nothing more beautiful and awe-inspiring than a whale (common around here now), especially seeing one on a calm, summer evening in the company of dear friends. It makes you appreciate the bounty of nature and the wonder of the seas.

And there’s nothing uglier than a sculpin, especially one staring up at you from a cooler after you’ve reeled it in. We used to catch them in Torbay but I hadn’t seen one in 50 years. It makes you appreciate the bounty of nature and the wonder of the seas!
