Beautiful Autumn

The Doctor's HouseExtreme weather events aside, this has been a beautiful autumn. The leaves are falling at The Doctor’s House, and lots of couples are taking advantage of our extraordinary Date Night to Remember. Last week we had the pleasure of hosting a lovely couple, John and Bernice. They shared this photo, which captures the rustic elegance of the season, and of The Doctor’s House, too. Fall just might be turning out to be our favourite season!

Autumn’s A-Coming!

Firepit at our Newfoundland cottage rentalsThe nights are getting a little shorter, with a definite crisp in the air. And as much as we love summer, we’re excited! For the warm drinks, the fires, and getting our cozy sweaters out from the back of the drawers. Of course, we have our Fall Specials on, which are always popular. But fall is more than that. It’s a time for slowing down, taking stock, spending longer nights with loved ones. Please let us know in the comments – what’s your favourite part of fall, or do you just miss summer?

New Fall Hours at the Shag It

View of Shag Rock as seen from the Shat It Cafe in Whiteway

As things start to calm down and get a little slower as we leave a fun and successful summer behind us, we’d like to announce our new fall hours for the Shag It Cafe and Gift Shop. We’re now going to be open on Fridays for a Happy Hour (snacks, finger food and drinks) from 4-8pm, and Saturdays and Sundays from 12-8pm. We’re so grateful not only for our great employees who’ve worked so hard, but also for our great guests, neighbours and locals who have supported us for our first few months. We’re excited to continue to serve you great, fresh food and fun, upscale art and jewellery all autumn long!

Also, thanks to Newfoundland carver and artist extraordinaire Leonard Howlett for the amazing picture of Shag Rock. It’s almost a perfect replica or the view we get from the back deck at the Shag It. Leonard is a new artist in our gift shop and we’re thrilled to have him on board.

Spring of the Year?????

I went out to the garden this weekend and there it was – a rose in full bloom in November! Then I went to the front deck and there he was – a blue jay in full bloom in November! WOW in WWW – again! The wonders of this place never end.

We’ve learned that when they were trying to find out where they were going to put the golf course in Trinity Bay, they studied the weather patterns for the last 50 years for ten towns in the area. Turns out that Whiteway won, hands down. It has a unique micro-climate with the best weather in the bay. Proof that I’m not just blowing smoke when I say that it truly is special out here! And I’ll take roses and blue jays in November any day!

Tuesdays with Murphy: Murphy the Meteorologist

Well, despite the fact that Jerry took his lunch outdoors over the weekend, I know what’s really up here in the Wonderful World of Whiteway – summer has left us, and fall is setting in. Now, yes, I do have a luxurious, golden coat to keep me warm, but I like it really toasty. Thankfully, I have two humans to dote on me and keep me in blankets. My forecast for the next several months at Ocean Delight: cozy, which a chance of cuddles!
